Description of the Little Switzerland vacation cottage rental
Looking for a beautiful retreat nestled in the mountains or a family vacation getaway - you've found it!
Whispering Creek Cottage located in historic Little Switzerland is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway with easy access to Asheville & Blowing Rock. A gently winding mountain road will guide your ascent to peace and tranquility as you approach this adorable 1915 cottage.
Whispering Creek Cottage owned by two artists; who have added their own decorative flair to each room. This cozy (1200 sq. ft) two bedroom, one bath cottage has a large full kitchen/dining area, nice sized living room and sleeps four adults comfortably. You will love the heart-of-pine floors, the sound of rain on the tin roof, fireplaces in each bedroom, large wrap-around porch and original artwork throughout.
Whether sitting on the front porch or napping in the hammock you will be lulled by the babbling creek, which runs along side the cottage. The kids will have a grand time playing in the creek and with any luck will see a salamander or a crawfish hiding beneath the rocks. Summer nights bring promises of starlit skies, catching fire flies and roasting marshmallows in our outdoor fire pit.
The small towns of Marion at the bottom of the mountain and Spruce Pines on the other side of the Blue Ridge Parkway offer plenty of choices for grocery shopping or grabbing a bite to eat.
So whether spending your days relaxing at the cottage or enjoying a day of adventure in nature ... your stay at Whispering Creek Cottage will be one that you will long remember.
Little Switzerland is one of the last true quintessential sleepy little mountain towns for relaxation, cool temperatures and clean mountain air. Over 100,000 acres in national forest and hundreds of miles of trout streams, our area is an outdoors paradise. Hiking, horseback riding, hunting and white-water rafting are very popular and there are several fine North Carolina golf courses nearby. Several gem mines offer the opportunity to pan for gemstones (a rockhound's dream!).
The Blue Ridge Parkway, a unit of the National Park System, extends the length of our area and provides splendid views around every corner. A visitor information center is located at the Museum of North Carolina Minerals at Gillespie Gap, Milepost 331. You'll find many points of interest around our area.
At 6,684 feet, Mt. Mitchell is the highest mountain east of the Mississippi River, and offers spectacular views, scenic hikes, a museum, concession stand and restaurant open seasonally.
Other attractions in the area or within easy driving distance include Crabtree Meadows & Falls, Emerald Village, Dellinger Grist Mill, Grassy Creek Falls, Asheville, Biltmore Estate, Lake James State Park, Penland School of Crafts, Linville Caverns & Falls, Roan Mountain Gardens, Craggy Gardens, Grandfather Mountain, Appalachian Trail, Tweetsie Railroad, Blowing Rock, Moses Cone Estate, Chimney Rock, Carolina Hemlocks Recreation Area, Mountain Gateway Museum.
