Description of the Asheville vacation cottage rental
Summer is just around the corner so now is the time to make your vacation plans and reservations at The Gatehouse at Wolf Run for all activities, visiting with friends or just exploring and enjoying the area. The cottage is perfect for week-long vacations, weekend getaways, writer's retreat, or house-hunting visits.

The Gatehouse is located on a 5 plus acre secluded knoll in beautiful Marshall, North Carolina, a short drive from Asheville. It provides a comfortable, relaxing home away from home with inspiring views of the mountains. The two bedroom, one bath home is beautifully appointed with everything you need for a great stay in the mountains including pillow top queen size beds with fluffy comforters. There is also a sofa bed that sleeps two.

We are located in the mountains yet convenient to Asheville, Weaverville, Hot Springs and historic Marshall. There are several white water rafting companies within minutes of the cottage as well as local horseback riding, and hiking and biking. Hot Springs with its hot water spas is a short car ride away and a fly fishing guide is available to take you to super trout fishing rivers, either wading or drifting. And for the golfer there are many great golf courses a short car ride away. A massage therapist is nearby for a relaxing message after your busy day in the outdoors. And we are about 30 minutes to Biltmore House, a must see attraction.

Let us know what activities you are interested in and we can forward additional information to you so you can make your plans before you arrive.

If you are looking for a week of relaxation bring your book and prepare to spend time on the various decks overlooking the mountains and valley where the sunsets are awe-inspiring. After sunset the darkness provides a perfect backdrop to view the stars where they appear brighter and closer.

The Gatehouse is an elegant yet relaxing retreat with all that you need at your fingertips including central heat and air, fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, computer, printer, internet access, table and chairs for eating out on the deck and for relaxing as well.

And for those responsible pet owners who like to have their four footed friends accompany them on vacation there is a gated deck and large, fenced yard with doggy door access.

Located thirty minutes from downtown Asheville, twenty minutes to quaint Weaverville and five minutes to historic Marshall, you can avail yourself of charming restaurants, great shopping and exciting night life.

Why stay in a nondescript motel/hotel room where for the same cost you can have your own private retreat with all the comforts of home. For the comfort of our guests this is a non-smoking home.

Great for dog lovers!

February 23, 2015

We had a wonderful time staying at this little place with our two pups! The yard (hill) is completely fenced and the decks are also completely fenced, providing us with lots of comfort about the security of our pets. The house was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. There's also a dog door and extra water bowls if you need them. The drive up to the house is quite steep and I'm not sure we would have made it without 4 wheel drive the day it snowed, it was quite an adventure getting up there! :) This location is close to Marshall, Hot Springs and part of the Appalachian Trail - a must do if you have dogs! It's a little far from Asheville for every day back and forth driving but otherwise perfect for what we needed! We would definitely recommend staying here!

Owner's reply:

Hi Nicole - glad you enjoyed your stay at the Gatehouse. And yes, you have to be up for the views but 4- wheel does help especially when it snows.Thank you for the nice review. I hope your husband is feeling better.

Very nice

October 18, 2014

We enjoyed our stay at this property very much. It was clean, comfortable, and modern. It was a pretty easy 30 min drive to Asheville and not much further to some of the other attractions like Chimney Rock and Black Mountain. The only thing I missed in the unit was a TV in the bedroom. There is a computer in the unit but it was extremely slow. There was also wi-fi but I could never get my laptop on-line but we did get our iPhones logged in. Overall it was a very pleasant weekend and I would be happy to return.

Great location and wonderful property

July 31, 2013

We stayed at The Gatehouse for a five day trip and couldn't be happier. There were a couple hiccups with the water, but the caretaker was responsive and fixed the problem quickly and everything was perfect. It's quiet and secluded, at the top of a mountain. The closest neighbors are at the bottom. Close to Marshall and Hot Springs if you prefer the road less travelled, and not far from Asheville if you prefer to be around more people. The property is fenced in for the dog. Ours (a Chocolate Lab) loved it! The fence is substantial enough that you don't have to worry about your pup getting free. We will definitely be back.

Owner's reply:

Really nice folks who were quite gracious. Looking forward to your coming back, perhaps during the glorious leaf season? Let us know.

Most peaceful vacation ever!

November 27, 2011

My best friend and I and a big old Corgi dog spent a couple of days at The Gatehouse over Thanksgiving break. What a peaceful, relaxing time we had! It was so quiet there. The first morning when I took the dog out, to my delight a couple of deer scampered through the woods. The beds were the most comfortable we had ever slept in. We had everything we needed for a couple of days away from the rat race. Thanks, Tanya, for your hospitality. Cherie

We had a wonderful weeks stay at the Gatehouse. The accomodations were delightful. The cabin was centrally located for all of our sightseeing desires. Gratefully we were allowed to bring our two Yorkshire Terrier Dogs with us. They had a blast romping through the leaves and were very well behaved. The owners of the property were most hospitable. We will definetly rent the cabin again in the future.

The Gatehouse is wonderful. Tanya has furnished this rental will all of the classic comforts of home. Asheville is a magical, adorable town. Greg and I visited the Biltmore for our first time and let's just say ... and I said "Yes". We may be back within the year to marry where he proposed. For pet owners the backyard is perfect and the view in every room in the house is breathtaking. Thank you, Tanya!! We will be back. Rochelle, Greg and Harley

This place is heaven! All the comforts of home yet relaxing and romantic. The Gatehouse exceeded all expectations! Asheville was fun to walk around and the Gatehouse was perfect to stay at. We hope to come back and stay longer next time. Thank you, Tanya, for creating a little piece of heaven for us to enjoy. Angie and Danny Tapsen P.S. Next time we will bring our dog.

The Gatehouse is a wonderful place to get away from it all. Set in the woods, high in the hills, you feel as though you have the world to yourself. Deer are frequent visitors and the night time sky is spectacular. And when you feel the need for activity, outdoor adventures are close at hand and downtown Marshall, Weaverville and Asheville are all a short drive away. Thank you! David and CeeCee.

Tanya. What a wonderful place you have! We really enjoyed ourselves. This is such a peaceful location with easy access to Asheville, Hot Springs and many other sites. Deacon, our dog, was in heaven. It was such a treat for us to be able to bring him and have a place for him to run and "explore" without being worried about him. We were all able to relax. We will definitely recomment your place to to others. We will be back! Thanks. Cathy, Chris & Deacon.

Thank you Tanya for your excellent house. We enjoyed the lovely and functional furniture and decorations as well as finding every need met including the sewing kit which came in very handy as Jackie and Don finished a wedding quilt top for our friends whose wedding we came to attend. We had a very pleasant stay. Fondly, Jackie and Don Quirk, Lisa Berley, Jeannie Reardon.

Ed and I thank you for your hospitality. Harley and Abigail (Yorkies 6 yrs. and 7 yrs. old) were happy and adjusted quite nicely. They will surely miss romping thru the outdoor spaces. As for Ed and I we celebrated our 15th anniversary at The Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa overlooking the mountains and watched a glorious sunset. The N.C. towns of Marshall, Asheville, Black Mountain, Weaverville, Mars Hill and Johnson City in Tenn were a treat to visit. Thank you. The Graysons.
