Great vacation - great experience

“ Excellent ”
July 16, 2014
Overall our vacation was flawless and a great experience. Before mentioning the rental, here are some travel tips: 1. Be prepared to get in slow motion mode. Nothing happens quickly here. 2. Most stores are closed on Sunday. This includes restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, etc. 3. The no-see-ums and mosquitos are mean. 4. If you fly Bahama-Air, plan on you flight being delayed. Apparently they are know for delays. So be careful scheduling if you need to have connecting flights. 5. Bring cash. Many place are cash only. This even includes many car rentals. As for the house, it was in great condition and was well equipped. All we needed to do was stock the fridge. The beach area behind the house was great although the shoreline is somewhat rocky. We were completely alone on the beach the entire time we were there. This gave us the opportunity to do whatever we wanted ;-)

The Unique Castle in Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, was formerly the home of Artist Gordon MacMillan- Hughes and was featured in Fodor's Travel guide. Beautifully renovated and modernised in 2012 it still retains the original stained glass windows and decorative doors with a spiral staircase...

Wonderful stay in Eleuthera's fantastic Castle

“ Excellent ”
March 26, 2015
The island of Eleuthera is very beautiful and there are so many beaches to explore. It is a natural beauty and is not overrun by tourists. If you are looking for peace, quiet, serenity and to be the only person on a beach, Eleuthera is for you. There are no malls, grocery stores are not like American/Canadian stores and prices are higher. Availability to fresh fruit, vegetables and bread is limited, so stocking up (Tuesdays) is recommended. The island residents are so friendly and helpful. Eleuthera runs on island time, so don't be in a rush, just relax and enjoy the experience. Driving is on the left and roads are in rough shape, but there are many access points to beautiful beaches, so keep your eyes peeled! We loved Alabaster Beach (Caribbean side just south of Governor's Harbour Airport) and Tippy's pink sand beach (Atlantic side). We were so very happy with our stay at the Castle. The Castle is in Tarpum Bay which is the fishing village on the Island. You can walk to Tarpum Beach in five minutes. We felt very safe at the Castle and in Tarpum. In fact we felt safe everywhere we went, and we went everywhere. The Castle was spacious, the kitchen was well equipped (pots, pans, cutlery, dishes) and there is so much space. The living room was comfy and the bedrooms were great. My favourite thing was the roof top deck. It was a great place to drink a coffee and just take in the beautiful turquoise water. Joe was great and very accommodating. Our flights were delayed (stay away from Silver Airways) and he came and found us (we got a little turned around in Tarpum at night). He made sure we got set up and even placed a takeaway order for us. The Castle was clean and a great place to spend our vacation. The experience was different from staying at a resort, which was exactly what I was looking for. We had our own space and weren't tripping over tourists. Would I return to Eleuthera? ABSOLUTELY, and yest I would stay at the Castle again. If you are looking for serenity and calm, you will not be disappointed in your visit to Eleuthera.
