Reviews for this vacation home rental in Bar Harbor, Maine

The views at GC's cottage are breath taking. I had as many pictures of the lake as I did of Acadia. The sound of the Loons at dawn and dusk was spellbinding. The fishing and the use of the kayaks and canoe and the beautiful, clear, and surprisingly warm lake water made the house a great place to spend some time even when we didn't go to the park. The fishing was great. We caught 4 small mouth, 2 large mouth, and a pickerel. Swimming was much nicer than I thought Maine would be. The water is very clear. You can see the sandy bottom well past the end of the dock. (probably down to about 8 feet) The kids loved the kayaks. We paddled all over the lake. It was always nice to come home here from the park as well. The family room, downstairs bedroom, and upstairs master bedroom were awesome. The rest of the cottage is a little rustic, but the quiet, peacefully, uncrowded setting made it more than worthwhile. We originally booked the cottage because it was such a bargin compared to staying on Mt. Dessert Island. The fact that it was so beautiful and there was so much to do there made it well worth staying a little further from the park. The is the perfect place for an outdoorsy family with older kids.

Great location with all the comfort of home. Real clean pond with daily visits of hungry ducks and beautiful loons. Had a great week relaxing on the deck with the first cup of coffee each morning and good fishing right off the dock. The kayaks were also a big hit and still we were only minutes away from parks, shopping, the oceon and anything else one might want to do.I would certainly recommend this cottage to a family or couples. Hope to return in the future.
Very Nice Cottage

We rented this cottage for a Family Vacation to Bar Harbor. The Cottage was very nice, the view was incredible, we had plenty of room and the kitchen had plenty of everything you might need to cook and even bake with. The kids wanted to live in the clear water lake easily accessible by 40 some steps per the kids! They also loved the Kayaks and Fishing. The Wi-Fi was great, although cell phone service was non-existent a land line is available. Beds were comfy and had plenty of linen, plenty of dresser space and enough closet space or hanger door racks for what you will need for a week. There is a full size washer and dryer, which is such an incredible convenience. Only difficult thing with the Washer/Dryer is that you must wash all linens and bedding prior to check out at 11am and with 5 beds, it's hard to do even when I got up at 5 am. Also, there were just enough wash cloths (6) for a day for our family, but plenty of towels (including beach towels), just have to remember to do a load of towels daily or just bring a few extra wash cloths of your own. Even though having to drop off trash seems like it may be difficult, it was supper easy and the attendant very nice, we ate most meals at the cottage and we only had two bags, one wasn't even full. My only real complaint is that the web site description states that Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park is only a 25 minute drive. We drove there everyday and no matter what time or route it was at least 45 minutes to the Park entrance or town limits. We didn't mind since we loved the cottage and wanted to spend time at Acadia and Bar Harbor, but we wish we would have known ahead of time, as planning for things such as Whale Watching timing is essential.

We rented the house for one week. Everyone in our party absolutely loved our stay. The lake is gorgeous. The view of the lake from the house is stunning. We picked mussels right from the lake and cooked them. Found fishermen who was selling lobsters $4.00 per lb 10 min drive from the house. The lake, the lobsters and of course the Acadia made our vacation unforgettable! The house itself is a bit outdated, but the price we payed and the magic of the lake was enough to have only great memories about the place.

One of those quiet, beautiful places...

Five members of our family from Canada, Idaho, and Maryland met at this clean, quiet cottage on a beautiful lake. Everyone had only positive comments. The cottage has been in the owner's family for many years, and he cares for it lovingly. It has a wonderful views of the lake from a large master bedroom, the dining room and a large deck. The lake was perfect for swimming and we made good use of the available canoe. Using the cottage as a base we visited Acadia Park, Bar Harbor, the Cranberry Islands, and further Down East. This is a good place for a family gathering but could also be a great romantic escape for a couple.

Wonderful cottage! The location was absolutely delightful and the cottage spacious and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the morning light- the peaceful setting, and the wildlife-including loons, eagles, raccoons. A few minor details need work (screen doors that don't slide properly), but the owner seems very attentive.

We spent last week at this home and had a wonderful time! The girls (ages 5, 6,7) went swimming every day and really enjoyed feeding momma and baby ducks (2 loaves of bread in 2 days!. Dave caught a 3# small mouth bass which made his week and I really enjoyed sitting on the deck admiring the view and reading. If you have kids definately check out the Discovery Museum in Bangor (it's awesume!) but skip the Oceanarium in Bar Harbor (boring). We went hiking and canoeing almost daily. Also check out Robertson's Sea Tours, we did the lobster one and everyone had a great time!! The house is big enough that we could spread out and with 2 TV's the girls could watch what they wanted and Dave could catch the news and his games! We played several board games also which is something that I must admit we don't usually do and the girls throughly enjoyed that. Candyland quickly became a nightly game. Enjoyed the books and left a couple to add to your collection. We will definately be back!

Was a great stay. Me and some army buddies did some fishing, pulled some small mouth and others. Getting to the cottage was easy, directions weren't to complex. Lots of space inside and out. The view was beautiful. We had a real good time and will be back next year.
We had a great time, the kids loved swimming in the lake and exploring the "woods". We throughly enjoyed the peace and quiet, and thanks so much for the tip about the lobster boat tour. The kids really enjoyed it and so did we. Actually, I think Dan had more fun that the kids! We will definately be back next year!
What a great location! We had so much fun, Joey caught his first fish off the dock and Cindy learned to swim! Everyone had a great time and the kids still talk about hearing the loons at night and feeding the ducks.
