Reviews for this vacation cabin rental in Chattanooga, Tennessee
Amazing view, abundant space, but needs updates
November 16, 2015
My family stayed at Shawnee Cabin for our annual "girls' trip". Overall our stay was very enjoyable. The view was amazing, the proximity to town ultra convenient for shopping, and the house had an abundance of space. It's one of the few large houses I've rented that actually had seating for everyone in the living area. The dining room table was beautiful and the seating accommodated our group. The kitchen had been upgraded and was great for cooking. It looked like other parts of the house were being updated as well which will help because there were a few problems. Wallpaper was coming off, neither of the irons in the house worked and the ironing board was old and when I tried to open it, I had to jerk so hard that it broke. The downstairs bathroom needs some attention as there was a pretty constant, unpleasant odor of sewer gases. Those sleeping on the second floor and loft area were kept up each night by a resident nocturnal animal that wanted company and was on the move all night. We called Friday morning to report it to management and were told not to worry because it couldn't get in the house and there was nothing that could be done until Monday. My biggest issue had to do with check out. I thought it was strange that we were expected to wash and put up all the dishes and towels before we left the house. I have rented many houses and have never been expected to do that. When I asked management about that I was told it was mentioned in the information I was sent. I looked back at my contract and could find nothing about it. It probably was in some other info I had been emailed but because that is so unusual, I think it needs to be mentioned to potential renters. Typically renters are expected to load and run the dishwasher and put linens to be washed in a pile. When 8 people are trying to get up, eat breakfast, take showers and get ready to leave by 10, it is not reasonable to expect them to wash and put up dishes and do laundry. It also made me wonder if the dishes and towels we had used when we were there were clean. i.e. A wet towel could have just been thrown in the dryer without being washed because a previous renter who used a towel didn't have time to wash and dry it before leaving. Not a pleasant thought! As I said, we enjoyed the weekend but I don't think we would have paid this much to stay in a house with all these issues even with the wonderful view and scenery it offered.
We do appreciate the good words as well as your honest feelings about any problems. We are in a wildlife preserve, this time of year animals are trying to get in somewhere for the winter, therefor scratching to open an area in the top of the house can happen. As far as the towels, I have been on many trips with my children & grandkids. Half took showers the night before and half in the morning as we were asked to clean everything but the bed sheets which we did. Sorry that it was an issue.

I stayed in the Big Daddy cabin and the cabin was beautiful. The pictures on the website didn't do the cabin justice. Although it rained everyday that my family and I were there, the spacious cabin made up for it. The big porch was definetly relaxing with enough rocking chairs for each member of my family. The beds were comfotable and everyone enjoyed the flat screen TV's in each room. My nephews enjoyed feeding the horses next door to us and they also enjoyed relaxing in the jacuzzi. At first I was concerned that we would be so far in the woods and not see any neighbors but we had plenty of neighbors. It was very quiet and the view of the mountains was beautiful. The gas grill came in handy because we grilled for the 4th of July. My family and I were well pleased and recommend the cabin to anyone. The drive from the cabin to downtown Chattanooga was very short depending on the traffic.

LARGE home for a big family!
December 26, 2014
When our grandchildren came into this home, they were so excited! It has 3 floors and 6 bedrooms and 2 enclosed porches (one with a hot tub they really enjoyed)! They kept saying "Gamma, this house is so great. We love it!" The Tennessee River is right beside it and they loved fishing right from the yard. They also loved the large bonfire we had and watching the barges go by as they went down the river. It is fully equipped (but for the price we didn't think we should have had to bring our own paper towels, toilet paper, and dish soap plus dishwasher soap.) If you are looking for lots of space for your family, however, this it it!
early family Christmas
December 16, 2014
Our family had a wonderful get together at the Shawnee cabin. It was already decorated for Christmas. The kids enjoyed fishing in the river. They enjoyed the hot tub. And at night we build bonfires and sang around the fire. The cabin is roomy and has been updated for the most part.

We were 4 adults and 8 kids and we had a BLAST at this house. We enjoyed all that the river just out the door had to offer - fishing, kayaking, swimming, picnics outside, star gazing and more. The house is well maintained - the wifi was sporadic, at best, but it was actually nice to disconnect. One burner on the stove didn't work, but we managed to cook incredible meals with all of the utensils and pans/bakeware that was there. Beds are comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for all for showers, etc. Enjoyed every second of our time at this property and can't wait to go back. Close enough to enjoy all that Chattanooga has to offer, but can also just enjoy the vibe of the house and surroundings.

The home was lovely, very clean, and we all had a wonderful time. We would have liked to see a mirror or two other than just the bathrooms. Being animal lovers we were concerned about the sweet cats, but the nice maintenance man assured us he was aware of them and trying to take care of them. Overall we loved just about everything. Thank you for a memorable experience.
Our Trip to Chattanooga
October 2, 2013
The house was really nice. What a wonderful way to start the day sitting on the deck, overlooking the river, watching the fog rise off it. So very beautiful, and peaceful. We also loved the big sectional couch in the living room. We would all gather and watch TV or just talk. The couch was big enough for all of us. We loved our experience there and would like to thank the Owner for allowing us to stay in her cabin.
Thank you so much! It was our pleasure to have you stay with us and hope you will return soon!
Each season is a new experience on the river. Today, there were two pirate ships that passed by the cabin on the way into Chattanooga for the River Rox Events... Just when you thought the view could not get any better.... Thank you again.

The King Beds on the main level had good mattresses and the loft area was good for our grandchildren. The view was amazing and the campfires a real treat for the grandchildren. I would have ranked this much higher but upon our arrival the kitchen counters were stained, coffee grinds in the pot and crumbs in the cultery drawer. So I spent my 1st hour there cleaning the kitchen and sweeping the outdoor decks. We had some mix up with the billing but it was quickly resolved.
Our sincere apology for the mixup and the kitchen counter and crumbs. we make every effort to make sure that the cleaning is thorough, and sometimes, the cleaning ladies have been distracted or just overlooked something. All you need to do, is give us a call and we will always be glad to make sure you are taken care of. Our customers are our priority! Without them, we would not be in business. Most of our customers are repeat customers or customer referrals and we promise that on your next visit, you will be compensated for any inconvience.

Celebrating a 60th Wedding anniv family reunion
September 7, 2012
My parents are celebrating their 60th anniversary. They have retired to Florida, leaving my brother and me in Ohio with our families. We wanted to spend time with them to celebrate the accomplishment. This cabin was fantastic. There were 14 of us from 79 to 8 years of age. My parents loved being out in a quiet location. We all loved being close to the river. It really was a very nice place to spend time together. Chattanooga offered more things to do than we could in the time we had. We plan to return when we can. One of the best places we have met.
We truly feel honored to have families that celebrate long family history celebrating so many years of love and togetherness at our cabin! Thank you for letting us be a part of that history and a memory. God Bless you and your family with many more years to come. Thank you again for letting us be a part!

A cozy, family retreat
August 14, 2012
Southwind will always hold a special memory for our family. We gathered from 3 different states for the wedding of our daughter in Chattanoga. We all enjoyed the river setting, the big comfy couch, the big dining table where we gathered for dinner, and later, a fun game of Balderdash. The rooms were very comfortable, the kitchen fully stocked with all we needed to prepare meals. We loved the screened in porch - wish we could have enjoyed the outside porch more - much rain. The hot tub was a welcome perk, though the jets didn't all work. We are already talking about coming back to Southwind in the future.
Thank you so much for choosing Southwind for your vacation/wedding stay. It was our pleasure to have you stay with us and we look forward to your return to the Chattanooga area. I enjoyed getting to meet some of the family members and sharing life stories. Have a blessed year and I look forward to seeing you again. Best of Luck to the Newlyweds!

I reserved this for our annual large family Christmas gathering. The Christmas decor was great, along with the lodge theme. Beds were comfortable. View of the river was probably one of the best features, along with a fire pit and enclosed hot tub. Some of our family would like to return to it in the spring or summer to take advantage of the fishing. Proximity to downtown Chattanooga was wonderful. I had a chance to meet the owner when we were checking out - she was very friendly. Definately would recommend! Thanks for helping our family vacation have some much-needed great memories!

Home away from Home

Comfortable, cozy and inviting. Rocking chairs were a big hit with the adults and children. My 8th month old grandson LOVED the little one just for him. Beds were comfortable and when we did have a problem, the solution was just a phone call away with a speedy correction. I would recommend this location to everyone wanting a peaceful escape but still close to town.

Very nice cabin. View was amazing didn't like having to 2 other houses on same property sharing. But meeting the other cabin residents were very friendly. We enjoyed our stay very much so and would do it again.

We had a lovely time, you not only get to enjoy the beautiful tennessee river with a boat ride down town to enjoying the beautiful mountains. We love the boating and the mountains, this may well be the place we chose to retire. The service in the cabins was great, the parking not so much. But we worked it out. We had three different families, we went downtown and enjoyed the many things to do. Lookout mountain was beautiful and so was Rock City. The guys went white water rafting, while the women and children went to the zoo. The place was very peaceful. We were their seven days and we still did not get to do all the things the area had to offer. The owner of the cabin sugested a place called Nickies drive in to enjoy seafood it was five star the service was great. Thanks to everyone their that made our stay so enjoyable.

Easter Family Reunion
May 4, 2011
We arrived on Thursday and departed on Sunday. We had 9 adults and 6 children ages 4-18. The facilities were excellent. We did have a problem getting the oven door to close properly. The sink in the downstairs bathroom did not have adequate water flow. The beds were all comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub dailey. We built a fire in the fire pit. We fished off the bank. We do plan to book the same cabin during April of next year.

The house was great...spacious and lots of beds. The only improvement I could suggest would be sharp knives for the kitchen (the steak knives were as dull as butter)
