Couldn't Wait To Come Back!
September 17, 2015
Just my wife and I stayed at this home on Dog Island for the first time last November. We had a fantastic time then and couldn't wait to come back. This time was in September and the water was so warm and the swimming was perfect. In November there was more shells on the beach, but in September there was still plenty! Also, the stingrays were everywhere, it appeared as if they were in beds all around the dock laying their eggs. Very cool. This time we took a charter that Rusty recommended and had a great time fishing about 12 miles out. We caught everything from grouper to red snapper, grunts, and sea bass. The charter was a little pricey but a fantastic time. I agree with everything everybody else has said regarding the quality of the property, serenity, sunsets, wildlife, kayaking, walking the beaches, etc. Rob and Nancy are so nice to work with. You can't go wrong at this beautiful, one of a kind, vacation! We'll be back.
"Away From It All"

Away from the hustle and bustle of life this was the most relaxing vacation we had ever taken. If you are looking to get away from it all this is the place. The scenery from every window is amazing. Nancy was so nice and accomidating, especially after previous plans fell through at the last minute. Thanks Nancy, Keith & Latunya Edwards

We had the best time we have ever had at the beach on this vacation. If your looking for a Dog Island house you already know about the remoteness factor so I'll just say this is the one. You can walk out on the dock and see three different species of fish swim by in large schools one after the other. The bayside beach is great, the short walk to the Gulf beach is great, sitting on the porch with binoculars is great, fishing, sea shelling, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, all great. And after that light the grill, have a cold one, cook something and watch the sun set. Perfect! Oh yea a little bit of info: we had 2 adults and 3 kids for a week, we took 14g of water and had enough. One time we boiled corn on the cob in local water with no bad flavor. The house is very comfortable and best of all Nancy is easy to work with. Thanks, John
We love this home!

We went last year for our family vacation to this house and couldn't wait to come back again this year to experience the magic of Dog Island once again. My boys LOVE the pier fishing and the wavy side is a 10 minute walk down the bay. Rob & Nancy's home had a new roof installed and a new HVAC system since we last visited. This home is in pristine condition! You can tell this well equipped island home is loved and diligently maintained. If you want to unplug and immerse yourself with creatures both land and sea, then you'll love this home and Dog Island. Rusty, Michael and Cookie took such good care of us if we needed anything and made the ferry trip in and out seamless. You won't be disappointed if you chose to spend your vacation on Dog Island.

My family and I recently stayed on Dog Island. This was one of the most peaceful and enjoyable vacations we have went on. The beach house was beautiful and the dock perfect for parking our boat. We enjoyed every minute!

Words and pictures cant do this place justice!
June 20, 2015
My wife and I really needed to get away from it all. This was the place. It was perfect. The whole experience started with a great ride to the island with captain rusty. He was super friendly, and on the way he stopped to give us a brief rundown of the islands history and showed us the lay of the land. When we arrived we were blown away by the beauty of this house. The layout was great and nature could be seen from almost every room. The wrap around porch allowed for some much needed shade and breezes. We spent hours swaying on the hammock. Then there is the location. Dog island is one of the most pristine places I have ever seen. The birds and wildlife on the island kept us entertained and awestruck the whole time we were there. The Dolphins in the bay side came right up close to the kayak I was in. What an experience. Like others on here have said, the house is well stocked and maintained ( A special thank you to Cookie for helping us bring our stuff to and from the boat) we were sad to leave this beautiful place. A week went by in a blink. We absolutely cannot wait to come back, we started planning our next trip in the car on the way home. Thank you Nancy and Rob for allowing us to share in your island paradise.
Awesome Family Vacation
June 15, 2015
First of all, the pictures of the house do not do it justice. The home is lovely and modern, and we were pleased to find it well stocked in case we had forgotten anything. But most of our time was spent outside, both on the dock side and the "wavy" side, which was an easy walk from the house. We never saw another person on the beach, and that is amazing! Our 2 1/2 year old had fun on the calm side collecting hermit crabs and starfish, and our 14 year old and friend enjoyed the beach side, especially riding waves. The fishing from the beach was easy and fun. Shells and wildlife everywhere. We even saw a swimming Sea Turtle, a first for us even after many trips to Cape San Blas. Especially want to thank Rusty who got us to the island and Michael, who did a shopping run for us one day and collected my fishing rods left on top of the car. Thanks also to Nancy for helping communicate what we needed and making sure we were ready. If you like the description, you will have a great time!

This place is great! Good fishing off the dock. Easy access for personal boat. Nice walk to the gulf beach. Clean and comfortable with an amazing porch! Bring about twice as much water as you THINK you need though (if you are accustomed to municipal water you will definitely notice a difference!) If you do bring a personal watercraft you should expect a warm welcome at the boat ramp from the local tow boat operator in Carrabelle. The owners are easy to work with and easy to get in touch with. All in all it was great! -bett
Greatest rental house I have EVER stayed in!!!!!
August 31, 2014
I have stayed in 50+ vac rental homes but this surpassed them all!!!! Everything was there we needed. clean, beautiful view, just amazing! We spent a short honeymoon there and couldn't have been moe pleased! You won't do better on Dog Island than this!!!! P.S. The pics don't do it justice at all!!!!!

This place is the closest to paradise I've ever been. We stayed one week, took walks every night, and never saw another person. We saw people fishing on boats, but that's it. This house has a great DVD & music collection. I loved the modern feel of the house. So many beach houses are filled with seafoam green & sea shells, but this house was such a treat. One night, we laid on the dock and we saw the Milky Way! It was amazing. The property owners were great at communication & they really took care of us. I hope to return again soon. I feel pretty lucky I had the chance to visit this remote section of Dog Island!!

This vacation will be "the" vacation to beat! The house was amazing and the views are to die for! The only drawback was the smell of the water for showers. We did bring all of our drinking and cooking water, so no worries there. We enjoyed the experience so much that we will likely ask to book the house again for our vacation for next year!
Wonderful family vacation
August 2, 2014
This was our 3rd trip to Dog Island and we loved every bit of it. We are a family that loves to fish so having our own dock was the best ever! Sharks galore on this trip (black tip and hammerhead), flounder, amberjack, sea trout, catfish, and bunches of pinfish. It was exciting to see what was reeled in each time. This was our first time on the bay side and we found that we much prefer it. It's quieter than gulf side, water is calmer, fishing is better and sunsets are unbelievable. The house was accommodating and well equipped. Loved having the outdoor shower. The wrap-around porch with the breeze blowing was perfect in the mornings while drinking coffee. Walking along the quiet, uncrowded beach, there's just nothing like it. Nancy was very helpful in answering any questions as we prepared for our trip. It's only been a week since we've been back home and I'm ready to go back already! Thank you for sharing your little slice of Heaven on Dog Island.....we can't wait to come back!

This was our second trip to Dog Island. When we asked our two young sons if they wanted to go to Disney World or Dog Island, they both, without hesitation picked Dog Island. We are a fishing family so it made sense. The fishing was amazing and having a dock was key. Nancy's gorgeous property is in the perfect spot. A 5 minute boat ride to Carrebelle and a short walk to the Gulf. The bay beach in front of the house was amazing. Nancy was wonderful to work with and communicated very clearly and promptly. If you are searching for privacy, serenity, and peace, this is the place for you. There's no place like it. We stayed for two weeks and could have stayed longer. We can't wait to return.

This is not your typical island getaway! Leaving your vehicle on Carrabelle, the approximately 18-minute ferry ride is the beginning of your Dog Island adventure. Surrounded by pine trees instead of palms, and the total absence of any commercialization, Dog Island is part of Florida’s “Forgotten Coast” - truly a hidden treasure. It is a wonderful place to explore in long walks on the beach, collecting shells or observing a variety of water foul as they sun on the pylons of the dock or dive for fish, and catching the occasional glimpse of other island wildlife. It is also a beautiful and relaxing place to just sit out on the deck enjoying the scenery and serenity of your own private beach. The house offers a view of spectacular sunsets and a welcome break from the distractions of Internet and cable TV. It is large and spacious, open, and airy with high ceilings and comfortable furnishings with water views from every window. Remember to take all of your food and beverages, especially be sure to take enough water for drinking and cooking with throughout your stay. Everything else is provided, and the owners, Nancy and Rob, as well as the property's caretakers, are readily available by phone. Although it is called the Forgotten Coast, for my husband and me, our vacation on Dog Island was unforgettable.
Perfect Girls Weekend!
November 5, 2013
We came down for a few days of relaxation with friends and really fell in love - with the Island and this house (first trip but hopefully not the last!). The house is very well equipped and decorated, very clean and comfortable. It doesn't feel like a rental - more like you're staying at the house of a good friend. We enjoyed the multiple layered deck, walked miles along the beach, swam, enjoyed the kayaks and the sunsets. The wildlife is amazing, bald eagles, herons, fish, and dolphins to name just a few that we saw. It takes some planning to stay here since you are bringing all your food and drink but it is well worth it to leave the "real world" behind. My friends and I hope we can arrange a trip again next year and hopefully stay for more than a long weekend.
our new yearly getaway
October 30, 2013
My sons and I stayed on Dog Island before but this stay was the best. Our stay was well planned thanks to very good communication between us and the owners. The house was clean and well equipped. The fishing was amazing and we loved having the use of the dock. It was quiet and private so we could relax and rest. We will definitely go back and are already planning to rent for next year. Its a great getaway to a great place.

We have very stressful jobs dealing with public, and going to Dog Island is perfect escape. We very much enjoyed our stay . The privacy, the peace and quiet, the house is great and greatly equipped. Also loved hanging out on the dock, only thing missing was a hammock on the covered section of the dock. Our cell phones did not work there and no wifi , That was the best part. Would definitely stay at this home again. Thanks So Much for a great getaway
Dolan, thanks for taking the time to write a review. Glad you enjoyed our home and the break from the demands of real life. We have found cell phone coverage is dependant on the carrier and, believe it or not, where you are located on our property. As you said, that can be good, it allows one to really relax.

Yup, this is paradise found.

I have been here several times and strongly recomend it. Nancy and Rob's Dog Island home is one of the most remarkable retreats I have ever enjoyed. Dog Island itself is a unique and secret treasure; unspoiled and secluded and very much the Gulf Coast at its best. Bring a good camera. It is worth seeing if you never have since it is truly one of the last unspoiled places. Be prepared to walk for miles by the sea on the beach and enjoy the vistas, the birds and the wildlife. It is all stunning and humbling. The house itself is elegant and stylish with a modern retro vibe. . . . but it's all very real and relaxing and wonderfully appointed. The dock is terrific and the fishing is good (I caught Ling Snapper, Trout and Redfish and there are tons of crabs and some Grouper, too). I can' t think of anywhere on the Gulf Coast where you can walk for miles on white sand, beside green water, and see no one at all. (Well, you may see a Porpoise or two). Then, return to watch the sunset from a wrap around deck and retreat to a cool and elegant living room to listen to music on an amazing stereo system. To be sure, this is not a resort hotel . . . it is a true excluse Island home. You must bring what you want to eat and drink (the water is potable but you will want bottled water). But, then you are done. Put your car keys and wallet away and don your bathing suit for a few days a peace and joy. I did not wear a watch or drive for days. Ahhhhhhh. If you are looking for a time away; a time to rest and enjoy nature, the sea and the beach in style and comfort, this is the place.
A week on our own private island!
August 17, 2013
Want to really get away from it all? My wife and daughter rented this beautiful, secluded beach house recently and did not see ANYONE the entire week (except out on the water in boats)! Great kitchen, deck, bath, and living rooms. Private dock and powder white sand beachfront (Bay side. Gulf side beach is a short walk). Bring your own drinking/cooking water as the tap water, while fine for washing and bathing, has an unpleasant taste. A small price to pay for this island getaway. We'll be back soon!
Yes a getaway for sure and glad to know you enjoyed our home and "your private island." Our extensive water purification system makes our water fine for bathing and cooking, and many on the island would consider it fine for drinking, but we do prefer using bottled when it comes to drinking. Even paradise isn't absolutely perfect.
Most relaxing week ever!
July 12, 2013
My wife and I traveled here for our one year wedding anniversary and have the best week ever! From the boat ride over and back, to the awesome fishing from the dock, to the amazing sunset views, it was all we could have asked for an more. The house is extremely comfortable and well equipped. One of the best places we have ever been. We can't wait to bring our young son down for the first time. Hope to go back year after year!
Location, location, location!

Dog Island is a gorgeous oasis unlike anywhere else we have encountered through many years of tropical island hopping. On the island, any property would be enjoyable, but no other has this setting. Settled back just slightly from the private beach and new dock and away from other homes, cooled by lovely shade trees and sea breezes, perched on a slight incline that provides breathtakingly gorgeous views of sunsets or sunrises from every room, the senses are enlivened and spirits calmed. The house is spacious, open, and exceptionally well maintained and equipped. Obviously, the homeowners love this property and take pride in sharing it with others.

Heaven on earth!

Between the private dock, amazing master bedroom, sunsets unlike any other, and the water views from every window, this place can't be beat. Clean, well-kept, and equipped with everything you'll need so all we had to do was show up and relax! My husband and I will definitely be back.
