Description of the Gambassi Terme vacation villa rental
Casa Quintino is not a normal tourist villa, but a unique home, lovingly restored to combine the timeless elegance of the Tuscany landscape with the compelling strength of Africa.

The personal paintings, books, piano, and ethnic taste as well as the simplicity of the rough style of finish appeal most to those who are seeking a genuine getaway from urban sophistication. We aim to attract creative guests by offering our Quintino Literati Award for the guests who showed most creativity based on your reviews.

Casa Quintino is in a unique position over looking a hidden valley in the heart of oak forests which are alive with the call of the nightingale, cuckoos and African hoopoes. Deer, foxes, porcupines and wild boar nightly visit the water hole making this a nature lover's delight.

Guests rent the whole house during the summer months and enjoy perfect privacy being the only group in a stunning location, away from all neighbours, noisy swimming pools, traffic or any man made noise.

Le Stalle on the ground floor comprises of a large double room, shower and wc and extensive living area with well equipped kitchen dinning area and patio

Il Refugio on the 1st floor, sleeps 6-8 in three double rooms, with cosy kitchen and large tuscan fireplace, and shared shower + wc.

During October - December we may arrange a custom made 3 day cooking course at Quintino to enable guests not only to sample some of the most gastronomic restaurants in Italy learning to navigate an Italian menu but also three full Italian meals which you will cook yourselves mentored by Cinzia Degnani, an English speaking Italian chef. Visitors will enjoy their meal by candle light on the patio, as the moon rises over the Tuscan hills.

In 2013, Casa Quintino was renovated and is now equipped with central heating and fans in all rooms to enable letting all year round. High speed internet has now been installed, and you can be connected to the world whilst remaining in splendid isolation of this hidden getaway.
Area Information
Being just one hour equidistant from Florence, Pisa and Siena, Casa Quintino is truly in the heart of the cultural triangle of Tuscany, and yet for sun lovers, it is only an hour away to the goldern beaches at Cecina which stretch along the Etruscan coast to Popolonia. Ferries from Piombino and Lovorno go to Islands of Elba, Sardinia and Corsica. Cinque Terre, a spectacular stretch of five picturesque cliff-top villages, the 'Greece of Italy', is only a few euro away by train towards Genoa.

Volterra, the hill top Etruscan fortress, can be seen from Casa Quintino, etched on the skyline the other side of our valley. To get to Volterra, our nearest town is a 11kms away, taking 25 minutes to drive up a spectacular winding road, whilst the nearby village of Gambassi Terme only 15 minutes away is more convenient for household shopping. Heading north towards Florence, the fascinating medieval hill-top town of San Gimignano, one of the most popular tourist destination in Italy, is 20 minutes by car.

Serenity in Tuscany

July 7, 2012

We followed dean and jane, previous review, into casa quintino after two weeks seeing paris, colmar, Verona and Venice, and this is what we needed! If you want HD tv, air on, pool go find a holiday inn, if you want to experience Tuscan scenery, tranquility, sunsets, wine, real Italian towns and a rustic renovated stone farmhouse then stay here. We drove to all the towns around on advice from attentive owners Antoni and Juliette, seeing medieval walled towns, castles, ruined abbeys and wineries. We drank at the "local" where my lack of,Italian proved no barrier to a good time. We watched deer in the paddock , heard hogs in the wallow, watched birds of all types and heard nothing but frogs crickets bird calls as we sat on back verandah reading a book and sipping local chianti. We walked the property amongst 600 year old monk constructed walls and Chappell, counted stars and marveled that in a country so busy and populated, that anywhere could be so peaceful,or well located. Although we loved sienna, San ginmnano and Vinci, our favorite remained volterra only 25 minutes drive along scenic road cluttered with tractors, three wheel mr bean cars, and scenery to die for. Volterra was small but amazingly historic, whilst feeling like a real place and not too busy. Ral artisans still carve alibastar, make bronze pieces and gold jewelry in the style of,the Etruscans who have been in the area for 4000 years! Eat,drink and take in the museums without suffering the heat and queues of Florence and Pisa althought these, are both easily, accessible if you want to do these as well. We did,not want a 5 star hotel with all mod cons, we,wanted a five star tuscan experience and we got it!! We would trave From Australia to stay here again and would recommend it to our friends. Check the web page and make sure it is what you want, the house is along 2 km of dirt track, we,only had downstairs formtwomofmus and there is no tv, no air con, no Susan and spa, just a very comfortable living area, bedroom, nice bathroom and a verandah with views to the stars. I could have believed we were the only people in Tuscany unless we looked to the twinkling lights of volterra through the trees in the Forrest next to the house. If you want to se stress, this is the place for you, grab a couple bottles of,local chianti, a good book and go!!

Time to relax

July 4, 2012

After a very busy year in Washington DC we took the opportunity to take time out in Tuscanny, with very high expectations for our week. The idea was to get a place that was central to all the sights that Tuscanny had to offer, yet be quiet enough to allow for a relaxing read in the outdoors while enjoying a vista and a good chianti. Casa QuintIno is 1.6km off the main road (along an unsealed road) it is 7km from the closest restaurant / bar and 11km from he town of Volterra. It could not be positioned better. After a day exploring the surrounding medieval villages ( highly recommended) or sharing the more popular tourist sights with the rest of Europe ( painful but still recommended) the seclusion of this Vila was a real joy. We rented the bottom one bedroom unit that had everything you needed, but if your needs require high speed Internet 24/7, 100 cable TV channeles, McDonalds close by and a shopping mall within 5 mile this is not for you. This is rustic accomodation that you do share with the natural wildlife, insects included. While we only saw two fox, we did hear something in the woods each night. The insects are part of being in the Tuscan countryside and with the use of mosqito spray and coils they did not stop us enjoying a vino or two at sunset. Casa Quintino has been a family project over many years and the owners Antoni and Juliet, who are very pleasant people want to ensure your visit meets your expectations. The cold wine in the fridge on our arrival being one example. When they give you the GPS co-ordinates to get you to Casa Quintino, just put them into you unit as provided and you will find yourself right where you want to be ( advice provided by way of experience). If the opportunity ever presents itself in the future I would not hesitate in repeating my experience in Casa Quintino.

Owner's reply:

Dear Dean and Jane,
We loved having you at Quintino, and your appreciation for the environment will guide other similar minded people who like the real countryside. It is better that our guests are the kind of people who do not mind a bumpy road and who are not afraid of wildlife. Thank you also for describing the distances in detail for other guests, as we are aware the property does not suit everyone. It is all the more delightful when we have guests who love the position as much as we do, and can tolerate the odd glitch in the internet connections. Thank you for coming and we hope to see you again in the future.

Tranquility in Tuscany

October 22, 2011

It is hard to believe that it is possible to escape the hustle and bustle of Tuscany yet be so close to all of the action. Casa Quintino is everything that it promised to be with updated bath and kitchen facilities including high quality bath linens. Our party of 5 adults took advantage of all of the attributes of Casa Quintino from breakfast and happy hour on the patio to watching cable news and sports. Although we did not see any of the wild boar, we think we heard at least one wandering around outside the lower house after we had all gone to bed. Do not miss the opportunity to experience Tuscan cooking and take advantage of either cooking lessons or an authentic Tuscan dinner prepared by Elide...this dinner was one of our best experiences in Italy and a month later we are still talking about it!
