Love history?Love this house!

January 6, 2015

Looking for that in the past, but still all the conforts of home?Well you have found it! Wonderful size rooms, beautiful yard, great porch hard to decied were you want to be.Walk out and down the drive turn left or right you will see all the hills of history, small graveyard..who is buried there?a little further down the old war hospital and just up the road the tower so you will be able to witness what all of our heroes so many years ago saw.Look across the battlefields, here the men shouting? When you are ready go home walk the yard,if you are lucky you may find a piece of history yourself, many others have, maybe a nail,a small jar,or even an old tool all you have to do is look there is so much history right in your own back yard. Then how about dinner? Right around the corner and over the fielld a wonderful market, many prepared foods but also anything you can wish for, pick it up and go home and us the outside grill, the whole famile will love to sit at that long table in the dining room,I'm sure dinner will last well into the eveing with everyone speaking about all the things in the house that transforms them into the past. This home is where your family will once again come together as a unit that enjoys each other's company Everyone out to the battlefields, out for ice cream out for pictures,The town is just a short ride from the house,go by car or look into renting a horse, now there 's a way to go back in time, there are many tours all day long.At night go on one of the great ghost tours what fun they are.Our stay at this home went by so fast we were so sad to leave. I am sure that we missed many thing offered by the people of Gettesburg, all being so nice to interact with, from the food servers to the reinactment men and women. This is the way a vacation should be. A little bit of something for all members of the family. So next time you start planning your next vacation time with your entire family,a group of friends,or just a little getaway for just the two of you, think of this home, you will be sure to enjoy everything offered in town or the area of the battlefields,or just walking down the street,so much to see and do for all. When you return home, you will find yourself thinking of the wonderful quite the wild turkeys and all theshops you missed when you were in town, but most of all Ithink the house is the thing you will miss the most,We all talked about the house endlessly for weeks after we returned home, all swearing to return in the near future

Historic and homey!

August 18, 2014

We had a really nice visit in this wonderful and historic Gettysburg house. It was very peaceful and quiet. We really enjoyed relaxing in the rocking chairs on the wrap around porch in the mornings and evenings. The kids enjoyed riding bikes and making a fire at night. And the yard was nice for our golden retriever. It was a very nice place to stay.

Easter Weekend at Gettysburg

April 24, 2014

My family (8 total) spent a wonderful 3 night long weekend at your charming historic home. The beds were comfortable and clean. Your kitchen was well equipped for meals and the location was ideal ,away from the crowds yet only a 5 minute drive into the center of town. We wold love to revisit someday and you were most accomodating. Thank you for making this so memorable.

AMAZING Gettysburg Experience!

May 21, 2013

My friends and I decided to stay at this marvelous historic home instead of the host hotel for the American Belgian Malinois Club's 2013 National Specialty. We were four humans and six Belgian Malinois enjoying all the home & surrounding land had to offer! The yard was mowed & maintained, the gorgeous purple/pink azaleas were in full bloom in front of the house, and the weather was agreeable most of the time. A bit of rain just made things greener and more beautiful. The kitchen & grill were put into full use as we cooked at the house each evening. It was a perfect place to prepare meals and enjoy them. The kitchen was fully equiped with everything you could possibly need, which makes it nice when you like to cook! We appreciated Libby's willingness to have our dogs stay at the house. We made sure the dogs respected the house & its furnishings and we were also diligent about picking up their poop in the yard. It's often VERY difficult to find properties will to accept canine guests and it is our responsibility to "leave no trace" of the dogs ever being there. I have stayed at many lovely properties with my dogs when attending dog shows all over the world, but our Gettysburg home stay was the BEST by far! Truly, if you plan to go to Gettysburg, consider this property as your lodging choice. The house shares its history with you and it's so easy to soak it in and SMILE. I do hope to return here one day and share this stunning home with more friends & family! Sipping wine on the porch whilst watching the dogs frolic in the yard...it doesn't get much better than that! :-) Thank you, Libby!

PERFECT HOME FOR CIVIL WAR BUFFS

May 2, 2013

I gave my Dad a trip to Gettysburg for Chrismas. He has been a life-long reader about the Civil War, and always dreamed of going to Gettysburg. I had planned two hotel rooms, and a kennel for the dogs. Then I found this home, and it was perfect. Way large for 3 of us, but a great location (very rural, farms all around, beautiful brook across the street, huge back yard, lots of stunning trees, and a quick jaunt into the southern end of the park, but just 3 miles from the center of town, and the original Black Horse Tavern, --private home-- with historical plaques and notes that it was a civil war confederate hospital at the corner of the road.) The home itself had a great kitchen, wonderfully equipped, a fabulous dining room, a small bedroom and a new bath on the first floor which was perfect for my Dad, and a comfortable living room with an amazing collection of Civil War books, artifacts, and paintings. My Dad was in heaven!. The second floor has 4 bedrooms sharing one new bath, and was very comfortable. Great beds!! There was a porch with rocking chairs, a grilling area with patio furniture, and a wonderful back yard for the dogs. This would be a great place for a big family to gather (sharing bath). And less expensive than 2 rooms at a motel and the kennel. I would stay there again!!

Real History with Modern Conveniences

April 25, 2013

My siblings and I went to visit relatives and tour Gettysburg. This house was perfect- perfect location next to battlefields in gorgeous farmland setting; about a 5 minute drive to Gettysburg center; wonderfully quiet, private and serene; perfect furnishings and period memorabilia; perfectly clean with all modern conveniences- including 2 baths with showers, cable TV, stereo, and wifi. Giant rooms nicely furnished with lots of historic touches. Everything a family would need for a great visit. Plus dog friendly! And the owners were as nice as could be and provided lots of useful information and instructions. This place exceeded expectations. More than a place to stay; it's a great experience.

Historical Thanksgiving

November 27, 2012

We had a fantastic time at this home. And it is truly a home, not just a house. We often rent houses for our vacations, and I have never stayed in a home so well furnished and equipped. The kitchen was better stocked than my own at home with excellent quality equipment. No cheap pots and cookware. We had no problem preparing the biggest meal of the year in this kitchen. And to sit 16 people at the dining room table in a home built before the Civil War and enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal was the highlight of our trip. The kids loved the swing in the tree outside and we enjoyed a lovely walk around the grounds. Despite the cool weather, we also spent some time on the Lemonade Porch, sipping warm cider and hot chocolate instead of cold refreshment. The boys particularly enjoyed the loft as their haven. We brought air mattresses, but you could easily add a bed or two up there. Thank you again for giving up your home for Thanksgiving. It was perfect.

Glorious Weekend in Gettysburg

October 29, 2012

This was our first time staying in Gettysburg and it was amazing. The historic Gettysburg home was everything I had hoped for - large front porch, rocking chairs and a swing on a tree. Everything we needed for our stay was available. We just needed to bring food and bath soap! The rooms were large and airy. The beds comfortable. Though we were hoping to see ghosts - we did not have that experience. I would certainly return and stay at this house again.

Total Recall (Civil War Style)

August 1, 2012

In preparation for our trip, 4 adults and two teens, we assembled on a number of occasions to study, observe and learn the basics of Gettysburg and to get a feel for what our trip would entail. When we arrived at the property, and stepped through the door, we realized that this house was an 1863(the year the Civil War Visited Gettysburg) farmhouse. It was truly like stepping back in time and becoming a part of the 1860s culture. The decorative furniture was primitive, the setting was pure country with towering trees and a babbling brook, and the wildlife (Mr and Mrs OWL!) were not at all threatened by the presence of some Yankees! We only met the Owls as a result of reading one of the books from the extensive in home library the owner has compiled. The home had an impressive collection of books and publications revolving around Gettysburg and Battle history. The address of the property for instance was on Black Horse Tavern Road. Just one quarter of a mile from the Black Horse Tavern which was a site used by the Confederates as a Hospital to treat their wounded. As I fell into my Total Recall vacation, I could look out the kitchen window and view a Regiment of Confederate Soldiers with cannons in tow, as they emerge from the wooded area across the field. Would they be stopping here at my house or are they headed to the Hospital? Perhaps they need something to eat or will take my home from me! Will they need a place to rest? They are after all my brothers and the rooms here are numerous and capable of sheltering many a needy soldier. Pray God protect us and see our country through this challenging time. This beautiful home was a catalyst that helped bring home the real and true Gettysburg. The Gettysburg that will now occupy a place deep within our hearts as a peice of history that defined a Nation and a people and set a course to greatness, equality and freedom! So if you are the kind of person who enjoys looking back with a realistic view on how things may have looked, how people may have responded and where in that slice of history would you have played a part, take a trip back in time and live the dream!

Awesome New Year's Eve weekend

January 3, 2012

My friends' families and mine spent a great weekend here in Gettysburg. We could not have asked for a more perfect place to stay. Everything was very clean and the house was stocked with all that we needed. The location is great, close to all the area attractions. We were able to see the New Year's Eve fireworks right from the backyard. Libby was more than accomodating to our large group and we look forward to returning again someday.

WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY FOR WEDDING WEEK:0)

July 15, 2011

As our daughter was planning her wedding in Gettysburg we knew that the best thing was to rent a home that could house our family and our dog comfortably. We knew a hotel room just woud be so impersonal for the bride to have to get ready as both her and us were not from the area. My husband found this home on the internet so we quickly emailed Libby Hintz to get further information. She could not have been nicer and more accomdating. We chose the Hintz's lovely period style home scattered with artifacts from the Civil War to be a perfect fit. There was plenty of room for all of us. The grounds and the wrap around porch were ideal for wedding pictures. We will always cherish the memories we made that week in the Hintz's home.

Informative, Relaxing Family vacation!

June 28, 2011

My family traveled from Williamsburg, Va., W. Long Branch, N.J. and Baltimore, Md. to spend a week together in Gettysburg, Pa. We explored the Battlefields and the historic sights. We took a tour of the churches and their role during the Battle. We would return to our "home" and enjoy the relaxing surroundings. Much time was spent on the porch in the evenings and the fireflies provided us with quite a show, lighting up the trees. The hosts were very accommadating and we enjoyed our experience immensely.

This is a lovely period home from the civil war. We had such a wonderful visit...the home has a vast and enjoyable library, lots of space, and while it is so close to all activities it remains a gem of privacy and quiet on the acreage with the little stream accross the road to play in. It is a home full of character. We definitely want to return here when we come to Gettysburg again. Marie in Hillsboro, OR

Peaceful Retreat at Gettysburg

June 19, 2009

Our entire extended family had a magnificent experience at this peaceful Gettysburg house. Situated just minutes south of the town of Gettysburg, it offered access to the entire battlefield without being in the craziness of the downtown area. The house was large enough that even with 5 adults and 2 kids there was room to have a quiet place to read or just relax. The large collection of Civil War items and books made the experience much more complete and we were able to explore parts of the battlefield that the normal tour groups just skip over. This was my third time to Gettysburg and I still learned new information. The new visitor’s center has some of the best Ranger Programs we’ve been to in the USA. The house exceeded our expectations and if we are able to arrange another get together we will be back to this house. Kudos to the owners and Vacation Home Rentals for making it easy to find spectacular vacation homes such as this.

Awesome house!!!

June 16, 2009

We stayed here June 7 thru 13 2009. It was a beautiful home. It was so nice to go sight seeing all day then come home and cook supper and relax on the beautiful porch. We have four kids and they enjoyed the room to run around and were off excess energy. They house was a little warm during the day but sleeping at night was great. We plan to revisit the area in a few years and I will definitely be rebooking this house. Thanks Libby and AL for sharing your house. We had a wonderful time.

History buffs and old house fans will love staying in this home. It is roomy, comfortable, and well-furnished. (Ground floor bedroom and bath will be appreciated by families traveling with an older parent.) There are books and maps available to brush up on local history as you plan your day. Location is great - easy access to the battlefield and attractions in town, yet a peaceful, secluded setting on a quiet road. Kids enjoyed the bikes and sports gear left in the garage, but sitting on the porch rockers and enjoying nature is nice, too. Only one hour to Hersheypark!

Wonderful Gettysburg Rental

July 15, 2008

This is a classic Northern farmhouse that was everything we hoped for and more. We live in Wisconsin and vacationed in Gettysburg over the Fouth of July, with my parents and sister and brother-in-law. Our kids(three boys, oldest is 6) enjoyed the large yard, which is even better in person than in the pictures. Plenty of space for everyone. Ceiling fans in every room kept the house comfortable. Absolutely perfect location. Very private and peaceful, yet under a five minute drive to downtown shops. Just minutes to the first stop on the battlefield tour. Wonderful place for those who appreciate the historical value of that time period to stay. Large collection of civil war books available to renters. Libby and Al were very easy to work with. They even had some plastic dishes, perfect for our boys. A great place for families. We had a lot that we wanted to see and do in the area, and the house was the perfect place for our family to relax and unwind in the evening.
