Description of the Gulf Shores vacation cottage rental
This beach getaway is located in the secluded Morgantown beach community. From the scenic entrance lined with palm trees to the huge private white sandy beaches, this neighborhood provides a unique beach experience for family and friends.

Relax and enjoy a book by the clubhouse pool, which is conveniently located just one door away while beach access is just a short walk from the house. For tennis fans, there are courts just down the street for your enjoyment. The streets are quiet and flat, perfect for biking and walking. Fishing, boating, and all sorts of water sporting activities are available in abundance in this beach area.

This three-story retreat has three floors of living space. The top floor has been newly renovated and is a great place to sneak away and relax. The view of the beach community and area is outstanding. The viewing room is perfect for an early morning cup of coffee while watching the sunrise or for taking in the sunset and entertaining in the evening. Indoors, the bottom floor has two sets of bunk beds, two roll-out couches and a sitting to enjoy an afternoon movie or ballgame via satellite reception.

Upstairs, the main floor provides a family room with a 31" television, a dining area, kitchen, laundry room with washer and dryer, and a main bedroom. Both floors contain full baths.

This beach house is perfect for those seeking vacation privacy and beach solitude. Skyrise condominiums are not to be found and so this beach village has the feel of beach get-aways from the days gone by!

Yet, just a few miles down the road is the national recognized Kiva Dunes (#1 rated in Alabama) and Peninsula Golf Resorts. For the best golf vacations, our beachhouse is perfectly positioned. The area, a golfer's paradise, is filled with other outstanding golf courses that include The Woodlands, Cotton Creek, and the Lost Key Golf Club.

Just a short drive from our beach community are the amenities of Gulf Shores that provide for excitement and fun such as shopping malls, eateries, water parks, racetracks, cinemas, putt-putt golf courses, and whatever else you seek in a beach vacation. Additionally, for history enthusiasts, is famous Fort Morgan, a key battleground during the civil war.

Local morning dining can be found at famous TACKY JACK's restuarant on the water where you can enjoy a hearty farmer's omelette while viewing the boating festivities in the area. In the evening, try MANGO'S for excellent seafood and entertainment which includes crab racing (every 30 minutes) and live music. There are other activities for children, and keep in mind kids eat free every Tuesday night!

For waterpark excitement, be sure to visit WATERVILLE park where children (and adults!) can experience the ultimate in water slides, wave pools, water rivers, roller coasters, racetracks, etc. As far as waterparks go, this place is one-of-a-kind! For putt-putt, try Pirates Island for two exciting courses with shade in the daytime and lights at night. For more putt-putt fun, take in Adventure Island which has two course layouts, a racetrack, and the best lasertag and arcade in the area.

For shopping excitement, visit Foley's Riviera Centre factory outlet mall with over 150 popular name brand stores. Just a 10 minute ride from Gulf Shores, it has everything. For the ultimate in shopping sophistication, take in the San Roc Cay Shopping Village where at H.L. Hood you can buy the finest in women's clothing, shoes, and accessories not found in typical stores. Also, you can choose between hundreds of bathing suits and coverups. For dining at San Roc Cay, visit famous LOUISIANA LAGINAPPE where you can get the best seafood with a southern cajun charm.

The vacation nightlife starts and ends with the locally famous FLORABAMA night club with live music and dancing from noontime until well after midnight. This place is famous for its "mullet toss" which is an annual event that brings in numerous local celebrities.

Finally, in considering our beachhouse, again we offer the privacy and seclusion and southern charm of the morgantown beach village and the many activities of Gulf Shores that we think make for an ideal beach vacation.

We were there and don't believe it

May 9, 2015

Dirty, Dirty, Dirty, Run down, broken furniture, frosted over windows, no dishwasher, broken DVD and VCR players, inadequate cookware with ONE 9" open skillet, worn out beds, 2 towels, 3 wash cloths, FILTHY floors, poor air circulation, broken blinds that will not open, blinds that have black masking tape on them to patch holes, tv trays for end tables and casual tables, Cute DIY paint party canvasses by the owner hung throughout the unit, i.e. Flip Flips (same set of 4 picture in 3 different rooms) beach bungalow done by owner hung in 3 different rooms, TV trays stacked one on top of another in one corner of the living room being used as a bookcase and holder of trashed AV equipment. One of the 2 sofas in the living room is missing a leg and has a stack of books under the corner to prop it up, bathrooms that are GROSS, seriously gross,, very small, dark and missing tiles in shower staff, by commode, and behind the commode. It would be impossible to note all the problems with this property. Guess the good news is that the owners we rented from who would not call us back until the last night we were there have evidently sold the property to someone else. Short Sale? Foreclosure Sale? The new onwer appeared at the house the moring of our 2nd day, insisting we let him in to measure the place. When he came in, he said he hadn't been inside the unit before that day, commented on how dirty it was and that he needed to spend 100K before he would consider the house habitable. Once upon a time, this property has evidently been nice. It isn't anymore. The owner we rented from has left information about it being the model when the subdivision opened obviously that isn't the case anymore. The exterior isn't like the pictures on the site, they don't show the large pile of trash on the corner of the front yar placed TWICE by neighbors. the broken stair case or the horribly peeling paint or the burned out safety and security lights that do not illuminate the stair case. The house does not look like the pictures on the inside either, The one and only indoor stair case is illuminated with a red glowing light, the bed area is dark and forboding, The main floor has multiple broken lamps, a broken ceiling fan hanging over the master bed, a Filthy, turned up rug in the middle of the living room (not the on in the onsite picture) ripped up, FILTHY sofas in the living room covered by even dirtier furniture throws

Pelican Dunes Shines

March 16, 2015

We spent a wonderful, though sometimes chilly, winter at Pelican Dunes in the Fort Morgan area of Gulf Shores, Al. This is an especially comfortable home within a short and pleasant walk to the silver sands of the Gulf Shores beach. The only minor drawback is the poor TV reception from the cable company. The owner was very friendly and responsive. We would definitely return to Pelican Dunes

Fall break 14

October 16, 2014

House fit our needs to a "T" Close to the beach, lots of places for kids to land, and they loved the steps from the bottom floor to the main floor. Definitely in our budget. Close enough to fishing husband went everyday, yet far enough away from stores we didn't overspend. Will look for this place again next year. Thank you for letting us use your vacation home for our home away.

Don't Do It!!!!!!

August 14, 2014

This was an awful experience. First of all, it was nothing as expected, the owner did not return phone calls, coffee maker was broken, toilet broken, showers had holes, bugs every where, dvd players did not work, no wifi which was offered, we are covered with bites, kitchen was small, moldy, and had no amenities to cook, the place was filthy, and needs major repairs, painted. The list goes on and on!!! The worse place I have ever stayed in my life. Looked like the animal house of the neighborhood. Took pics to prove

Disappointed in this rental

August 4, 2014

We were so disappointed in this rental. Pictures were very deceiving.. The furniture was tattered and torn and covered with slipcovers. The place was dirty and very outdated. The pots and pans were very old/cheap with scratches in the bottoms we were afraid to use. Not enough towels. The only over abundance of items were bed pillows. They were stuffed in any nook and cranny. Just about every drawer had a stuffed pillow in it. Only thing....ALL the pillows were nasty with stains. The very upstairs room had to be cleaned by us. The room had leftover underwear , bathing suits and trash behind the sofa. The mattress when pulled out of the sofa fell straight thru the frame. I emailed the owner about the first findings and was told....Im sorry it was not as clean as you had hoped and it will only take you a few minutes to put the cover back on the tattered sofa. Really???? I am supposed to clean this dirty place PLUS recover the sofa? Ok.. We are trying to overlook and move on so we can enjoy this vacation. Then I find 6 or more inches of black mold on the shower curtain in the bathroom on the lower level. So I have to wash the shower curtain before it can be used. The main floor bathroom had mold as well. If they are paying someone to clean this place between renters they need to be fired. The Central Air doesnt work properly. I once again emailed the owner and was told to keep the temp up. It was at 74 and never got below 86-88 during the day. She did offer to send the handyman but it did start to work one evening and it got cold so I told her not to send anyone. But next day it started again. We just gave up and left early. We really did try to stay the week because the beach is really nice but not enough to be uncomfortable heat wise and upset about the accomodations. The pool that was advertised 2 doors down was closed due to some kind of leak. It did open for a day then was closed again. But people kept changing the sign. So we didnt know if it was opened or closed. The contract stated to not leave cigarette butts outside....they were everywhere. The contract also stated the house would be ready for use upon arrival.. IT WAS NOT! So disappointed. WE ran into a lady at the other pool who had rented the same house 2 years ago and said it was very outdated and they didnt use the other floors because their kids were young and worried about them. Were not impressed either. I would NEVER recomend this rental. The only good thing was the secluded location.

Not what we had expected

August 4, 2014

We were scheduled to stay here July 26- August 2nd. Upon our arrival we were sadly disappointed in the rental. The pictures did not reveal the tattered furniture that was covered up with slip covers. The cooking pots were old and scratched up. Lots of bed pillows laying in every nook and cranny but so terribly soiled and stained. We didn't want to use them but had no choice so we double covered them. Not enough towels ( they were tattered as well) yes they had a washer n dryer but the dryer takes forever to dry. The very top level was disgusting. We found underwear , bathing suits and trash that had not been cleaned before our arrival., on the very bottom level I had to wash the shower curtain as it had at least 6 inches of black mold on it. ( this does not happen overnight) so you know it's been there for weeks. TV never did work in the master bedroom. I also had to bleach out the shower in main bathroom because of mold on tiles. ( this was supposed to be a vacation not a full house cleaning) the air conditioner worked at night but had a very hard time cooling during the day when it was the hottest. Was usually 84-88 degrees during the day and we had it set at 74 degrees. Would never get cooler till very late at night. We did contact the owners and were willing to send handyman but we told her not to bother as we were leaving early anyway. Whoever they have cleaning between renters needs to be fired and a new one hired. This place is sooooo outdated as well. The beach is very nice . The second pool located 2 doors down had a leak and was closed. The other pool was very nice. The tennis courts wouldn't open to the code given. Other people we spoke to couldn't get in either. Just gave up. Even spoke to a lady who stayed in same rental we were in 2 years ago and had nothing good to say about it. My advice is.... Spend a little more money and get a much nicer and CLEANER place. Would not recommend this rental to anyone. There's way too many out there to choose from. We left early .

This place is a dump!!

July 7, 2014

I wanted a relaxing getaway for just a couple of days with my daughters. This was not it. When we arrived, we discovered how run down and ill-kept this house was. I immediately emailed and texted the owners Willy and Dana. It was several hours before I received a response, which told me to enjoy the neighborhood and the beach as they had given me a sweet deal. $165/night doesn't seem like a sweet deal to me for this place. The furniture was in disrepair, covered up by blankets. The beds were rickety with very hard mattresses. The lamps were very wobbly and half of them had burned out lightbulbs. Several of the blinds were broken. The bathrooms had mold and mildew in them and were in desparate need of updating. There was something - I have no idea what - growing on the inside of the windowsill above the master bed. There were no beach chairs as promised, no wifi, and no beach toys as also stated. I was so very disappointed by our overall experience with this house. There was a for sale sign out front, and I certainly hope that whomever buys this house spends a ton of time deep-cleaning and renovating before renting it out any more. What a waste of money. :-(

A little disappointed

June 9, 2014

I am writing this not to cause trouble, just to give an accurate account of what you are getting. We knew for the money we paid we weren't getting the Cadillac of beach homes, but we aren't picky people either. Just wanted something clean & things that worked. Little to our dismay this was not the place. For starters the bottom floor only had one working window unit air conditioner and a hole in the shower stall floor. Then move up to the next level & the ice box leaks so there is a big drip pan in there that catches water & takes away space in the ice box. Had to go buy a skillet and pans to even cook what little we wanted to cook. The ones provided were so small & scratched up they wouldn't work to feed us all and the food stuck to it. The tile in this bathroom is falling off & very dingy. THEN the MAIN problem I had was my adult boys were to sleep on the third floor. This would have been perfect because they could sleep in & not be bothered by the others. Well it was utter filth. One couch was torn down to the foam & the frame was broken. We were going to try to combine the two mattresses that had the thickness of a tortilla & when we tried to do that the foam from one of them started to crumble. Again we aren't picky, my boys are big guys that just wanted a decent place to rest. So then we had purchased a blow up mattress to add to the expense of our trip & my other son had to sleep on the main floor and be woke up early every morning. Not what I had in mind at all. If you are renting as a couple, the place is fine. If you are wanting it to accomadate the 7-8 it advertises its' a stretch. Location was great, the house has charm, just needs some simple maintenance & a few furniture upgrades. We enjoyed the pools & the private beach access immensely! I don't want to scare anyone away, but you need to bring clean linens, a blow up mattress, skillets & baking items, and several fans if you want to be the most comfortable.

Best Secluded Beach Getaway For Dog Lovers

September 5, 2013

We loved it from the moment we drove into the subdivision which was so well maintained and pretty, lined with the palm trees. The pool, the tennis court, the quiet neighborhood. We were absolutely thrilled to death to find out that we could take our dogs onto the beach with us!!! How awesome!! They got a vacation, too! The stands at the entrances to the beach with the bags for doggie "poo" were extremely convenient. We all romped and played in the water together! It was just great not having to leave them all the time. Our stay in Morgantown and our accomodations were fantastic! Recommend it any time to anyone!

Great neighborhood Terrible House

February 20, 2013

We loved the neighborhood. Morgantown was great-pools, tennis courts and beach all great. The house left a lot to be desired. First it was old and seemed that way. We had ants and not just a few-all over the beds for my kids to sleep in and in the kitchen. It was also dirty-move the furniture and you will see it. Would love to stay in Morgantown again but in a different house.

Winter Mini-Vacay

February 19, 2013

The house is a bit dated, but fit our basic needs. One significant deficiency was the stairs to each floor are external. There were no inside stairs, so you had to go outside to enter a different floor. This was not very convenient with our small children. Otherwise, we had a very nice & relaxing time.

A Great Place To Stay

January 3, 2013

We really enjoyed our time in this house on Dauphin Island. It was clean, well-maintained, comfortable and was exactly as the ad promised. We loved the wrap-around deck which allowed us to enjoy the sunsets and beautiful scenery even when it was raining. We were especially amazed at the level of personal care provided by both Lois and Susan. Emails and texts were returned promptly. When we arrived, we even found a Christmas tree set up for us by Lois so that we would enjoy the festive season to the fullest. We traveled from Canada via Amtrak (as far as New Orleans) , which ended up being late and we arrived a full day late. Lois quickly volunteered to refund the rental amount for that day...without being asked. Overall, it was a fantastic place to stay and we would recommend it to anyone. Thanks Lois and Susan!!

Burr Mansion

November 24, 2012

Overall the house was pleasant. However, there is only 1 adult bed, the other beds consisted of bunk beds or a rollout sofa. The furniture is old, in some cases torn, and the covers for the chairs were dirty. There was old dried stain on the bed's comforter that appeared to be blood. And a similar stain on the sheets. The disposal wasn't working and we had to continually plunge the sink to get it to drain. It's definitely maintained as a rental property. the house is now for sale, which may explain the lack of upkeep. It's dog friendly which is great, but because the yard is not propertly maintained there are burrs everywhere. My dog couldn't walk 3 feet without stepping on numerous burrs, which were painful for him and me as I had to pick them off.. The burrs stuck to pants, shoe bottoms, shirts, towels - everywhere. We nicknamed the house Burr mansion. The location is perfect - it's near the pool and only about 3 houses away from the boardwalk taking you directly to the beach.

Enjoyed the beach but not the house

November 2, 2012

I took my wife and our two dogs here for our first anniversary. I am sad to say that I was embarrassed to have rented this place for my wife and I. The beach at Ft, Morgan is very nice and quiet but the house was another story, it was by far the worst house in the Morgantown community. We toured all three levels of the house and found that every level was equally bad. Very musty smell accompanied with a lot of dust. Blinds and curtains falling down, fans and lights that didn't work as well as the garbage disposal. All of the windows were very dingy and some you could barely see through. Very dirty showers and dirty shower curtains (alot of mildew). So much that my wife would clean her feet one at a time as she was exiting the shower and immediately step into her flip flops. Also, the hot water heater in the house should be turned down, the water was almost scalding hot. The bedding seemed to be clean but the other blankets in the house were not judging by their smell. The house desperately needs to be painted and wood work (all of the door frames were rotting). The garages were littered with broken grills and broken beach chairs. All in all my wife and I were not in impressed with the beach house. We have stayed in other beach house and condo rentals for less money and this one was by far the worst we have experienced. As a matter of fact we stayed in a Days Inn a few weeks back for $50/night that was cleaner. We felt that with the money we paid we deserved and expected a nicer house.

This house is a dump and dirty too

August 15, 2007

We rented this beach house this summer and it was a dump. Don't be deceived by the nice pictures on the webpage, they are probably 5+ years old or at least pre-hurricanes. The place was very dirty when we arrived, dog food on the floor, dust everywhere and faeces on one of the towels. Its is very poorly kept up and unsuitable for children (no interior staircase between floors, just a very steep ladder). So keep away or you will have a horrible time, we did and the owners were no help once they had our money !

Don't like the pool

The owner fails to make himself clear that the pool is open to public. When we were there the pool was way too crowded, noisy and felt dirty.
