Reviews for this vacation home rental in Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii
Really enjoyed the space
September 8, 2014
The 5 acre property is absolutely beautiful with views in every direction. The gardens and fruit trees were bountiful. We enjoyed using the yoga studio and we took advantage of the beach gear made available to guest. We stayed for one week in the studio, although small it was all that we needed and it was what we were looking for. Sitting on the lanai drinking coffee every morning was a perk. Would stay again.

Paradise beyond words
August 29, 2014
It is,actually, difficult to find the right words( and I am a writer) to adequately describe how exquisitely beautiful, unique and peaceful this location is while still being easily accessible to the rest of Kaua'i. The views, the sunrises and sunsets, the mountains and canyons, abundance of native plants, flowers, birds, etc, the uninterrupted star gazing at night... all this in addition to a lovely, clean, fully equipped apartment with full kitchen. The young family that lives there are considerate, helpful if needed and quite simply, delightful. This was a perfect experience for us and we will definitely return. Mahalo.

Quiet, comfortable with a beautiful setting
July 9, 2014
We fully enjoyed our week here. The apartment is clean and spacious for two people, with a good kitchen for cooking. (The bed is comfortable--always a plus!) We loved the opportunity to learn about Yogalign and to take classes simply by walking down to the yoga space. The view is beautiful--with daytime rainbows and night time stars. This is not your beach/resort experience--it is a comfortable, homey, casual atmosphere. Don't go if you want to be steps from the beach and have a hotel/spotless feeling. Do go if you value a place striving to be ecologically sustainable with generous people willing to share everything from papayas to beach umbrellas and snorkel fiippers.

Blissful but not private
April 19, 2013
The setting is glorious. Can't beat the majestic mountain views. Loved the generous access to organic home grown produce. Could pick our own grapefruit for breakfast. Were shocked to discover that this does not fit our definition of "2 bedroom." The larger apartment has a (very comfortable) king bed in the living room, plus a queen bed in an attached room overlooking the car port. The insulation between the two is so bad that the light comes through. When we complained that it was a studio with an attached bedroom we were told (in email) by the owner that the floor plan was visible on the web (still can't find it), and she had decided not to build a wall for the main bedroom as it would inhibit the air flow. Despite the welcome and hospitality described in the prior reviews, the owner never came to meet us in the two weeks we were there, although she had chats in passing with one of our party. I understand she was very busy with her yoga, and it was a delight to be able to participate in classes at the nearby studio (with another teacher.) Michaelle was very generous with her kayaks and water sports supplies. The sheets and towels were of good quality, the kitchen was adequate, the beds were great. I understand ants and other insects are part of the tropical life, and respecting the limits of a septic system is understandable. The barbeque area is terrific, the aging screen doors are problematic. Looking at the review on the Fodors website will give you a balanced perspective. But if we had known there was no wall separating the main bedroom from the living area we would not have gone with two couples. It is probably perfect for a couple with children, or just by themselves. One of the several people living upstairs gave us a friendly guided tour and access to the fruits and vegetables, but a welcome from our hostess would have made a big difference.

Feel at Home on Kauai
December 12, 2012
This rental is in an ideal location if you like the Hanalei - Kilauea area. Michaelle welcomes you to her property with unlimited access to her tropical gardens, yoga studio and classes, and open mountain vistas. We were able to completely relax here, tuning up with morning yoga and freshly pressed juice from her citrus trees, venturing (fully equipped with borrowed gear) to nearby beaches for the day. We are easy-going seasoned travelers who don't much mind a little wear and tear around the edges. The kitchen is adequate for simple cooking. The bed was super comfortable and we valued the feeling of security on this 5-acre property, screen doors letting in warm island breezes day and night. You can't beat Michaelle's warm generosity. She's available and provided everything we needed with ease.
Hidden Gem for the budget minded!
July 18, 2012
We stayed 3 weeks in the studio instead of the apartment because it was only my husband and I. Hanalei is on the north side which means we experienced a moist rain daily and slept to the sounds of quiet rain each night. The unforgettable mountain views with waterfalls greeted me each morning as I drank Kona coffee. Paradise! Kauai has it all! We loved the king size bed and outside grill with patio. A full size refrigerator and garden was helpful because we cooked our own meals. Don't forget your laptop because there is no cable here and the TV is small. The rooster was an unwanted alarm at 3am and again at 5am so we started to keep him in the pen until we got up at 8am. In Kauai rosters roam around everywhere. Michaelle and sister Erin were helpful and friendly hosts. Big Save grocery in Hanalei was cheaper than Food Land in Princeville for groceries. Food Land does have three separate clearance areas for meat, bread and dairy items. These are hard to find at first but with some effort you can locate them in the store and visit them in the evening on your way home. We had laundry facilities, kayaks, surfboards, beach accessories, snorkel gear and boogie boards all free to use in the garage. Beautiful beaches everywhere, we went to a different one everyday. If It was cloudy on the north side, then drive 20 minutes to the east side and enjoy the sun and breeze. Temperatures are so constant that the weather is not even given on the radio...75 to 80 everyday :) The night sky with the outside shower at the end of the day was heavenly perfect! Staying with locals was what made the 3 weeks even better. This hidden gem is what made it possible to stay so long. Highly recommended if you don't want a resort vacation. This hidden gem has it all.....try it. The spectacular view is better than the pictures:)! I am ready to go back! Teresa and Tom
