This house is about 15 mins to Hilo. The view is so stunning in the morning and in the night. Because we were out all day every day. It's big enough to fit 12 people at least with 6 bed rooms and 4 bathrooms. My family with eight people enjoyed our stay here very much.
The only issue we had was some technical problem with the water pump first night we got there. But the owner responded so quick and got it fixed next morning.
Oh the beds are soooo comfy.

Location, Location! You have heard this mantra in real estate many times, but it really applies to the this home. Located about 1300 feet above Hilo on a 20 acre tract of farm land this house overlooks two beautiful waterfalls on the Waiau Stream off of the back deck with the city of Hilo laid out below you off the front porch. The views are simply stunning. There is a path down into the gulch where you can swim in the pools at the base of each of the waterfalls. A truly unique experience.
The home is a completely “green” home. The power comes from solar arrays on the roof with batteries providing power in the evening. Water is from a rainwater catchment system. So every shower is taken in solar heated rainwater. In spite of being “off the grid” the house has all of the modern conveniences you would expect, Flat Screen Satellite TV, High Speed Internet and strong cellular service.
The house has two completely independent floors with separate entrances. I’ve stayed on the upper floor three different times, ’07, ’08 & ‘14. Each time I’ve stayed about a week and loved the experience. The house then went off the market for a number of years as the owner moved back in for a while. The house has recently returned to the market and the property manager sent me an email to tell me of its availability. I jumped at the chance to return once again.
As I mentioned above this is farm land. The owners are coffee growers and there are plenty of coffee plants on the property. In addition there are also many fruit trees that you can pick fruit from if it’s in season. The owners provide plenty of their award-winning 100% Kona coffee for your consumption. There are also a few horses, cattle, sheep and chickens on the farm, which just added to the charm.
One thing that might come as a surprise that the house has no air conditioning, but you don’t really need it. At 1300’ of elevation, the temperature each night dropped into the mid-60’s, and this was during August. If it’s sunny all day the interior can become a little warm (not hot), but there was a floor fan provided for spot cooling.
In closing, I’ve been to the Big Island over 10 times. I’ve stayed on both sides of the island. Without question, this house is my favorite place to stay on the Island. It has unparalleled views. It’s also convenient to all of the major sightseeing spots. My family love’s the Big Island. There’s no question we will return again and when we do, this is where we will stay.
