Area Information
The Kona Lighthouse is centrally located along the Gold Coast of the Big Island, a 5 mile scenic drive between the towns of Kailua-Kona and Keauhou-Kona.

Keauhou, just a couple miles south of the Lighthouse is home to the Sheraton Hotel as well as Keauhou shopping center with 8-plex cinema, super market, drug store, activity center, farmers market, and restaurants and shops.

Kailua-Kona, just a couple miles north, provides island style entertainment as well as many great restaurants, The new "mainland" shopping center Kona Commons, Costco, Wal Mart, and the largest Safeway grocery store in the State. The Makalapua Shopping Center is home to K-Mart, Macy's and an 8-plex cinema. Up the coast from Kailua is the Kona-Kohala coastline which sports many fine beaches, resort hotels and shopping.

Kailua-Kona is the site of the Ironman Triathlon in October. The race starts and ends right in Kailua and runs all the way to Hawi, 1.5 hours to the north.

Also about 1.5 hours north is Mauna Kea, the worlds premier celestial observation point. Over a dozen observatories sit atop the 14,000 foot mountain accessible by car except when there's snow! When there's snow you can rent ski's or snowboards and take a tour up the mountain in 4wd vehicles. Of course there are many tour guides available.

Horseback riding is also available up the slopes of Hualalai Mountain, down into the picturesque Waipio Valley and around the mountains of Waimea town.

Volcanoes National Park, with an ongoing active volcano, is just 1.5 hours to the south with some of the most amazing and unique scenery in the world.

There are literally hundreds of things to do on the Big Island, and the Kona Lighthouse is the most centrally located staging point for all your vacation adventures.

Oasis By The Sea

May 31, 2014

This property is great. Nice big kitchen, open planned living room and 4 bedrooms. The house is situated close to town -and a quick 5 min walk to White Sands Beach. The house has everything you need - snorkelling equipment, boggie boards, pool toys ect. Wendy was a pleasure to deal with and I would have no hesitations recommending this property to friends and family. We really enjoyed out stay, thanks for making our holiday that little bit more special.

Owners were very nice, letting us check out late due to late flights back to the mainland

A place to come back to!

May 3, 2010

This was our first family trip. My mom, brother and his wife, husband and I and our 15 month old son chose this house for the proximity to the beach and ability to sleep all of us comfortably. Wow, were we amazed at how lucky we got. This house was set up so well for children that no other place we ever stay will live up to this experience. Removable gates on all stairs, cribs, highchairs, and toys. We were barely ever inside, instead choosing to live on the lanai and in the pool, when not traveling around and sight seeing. It was a pleasure renting from Wendy and I would recommend her to anyone. Our recommendation for the future would be that the boogie boards and fins need a little TLC, and a garage door opener, or additional set of keys would be handy.

A Perfect Location

February 14, 2010

This was a beautiful place to stay and the location was perfect! We spent a good amount of time on the lanai watching the whales and the ocean. I cannot complain about anything and I would highly recommend this house to any big island vacationer. We loved it!

A Perfect Sanctuary

November 1, 2009

We recently ended our stay at the Kona Lighthouse and the home was a perfect setting to kick back and relax. The location was convenient to shopping yet felt private. The pool was refreshing and we spent a lot of time on the lanai off the living area. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking up delicious meals to enjoy on the lanai. We appreciated the generous supply of towels and other amenities to make us feel we were almost at home! All in all, a perfect getaway!

Owner Supplied Testimonials

Mahalo for you positive feedback. We will be adding an
extra set of keys and a garage door opener! Always
great to hear how much our guests love the Lighthouse and
appreciate the helpful comments! Wendy
