Reviews for this vacation home rental in Kailua-Kona, Big Island, Hawaii
San Diego, CA

Really enjoyed the house and the layout is wonderful with the decks. Really incredible how close to the beach. Made good use of the beach toys - nice touch on providing them. At night you need to be very quiet as at 9:30 on the dot a lady (gather she has a reputation in talking to people) will come over from across the road - even when you are just having a conversation. Great find and would def rent again.
Were happy David and his friend enjoyed our home, its beach toys and closeness to the beach.
Our lower level Canadian guests in the 1/1 confirmed - what the " lady neighbor " told us : David invited about 10 guests back to their rental from the wedding they attended. Of course the neighbor was upset that there was a party going on during the weekday at 9:30 OUTSIDE on the lanai. Visitors need to realize when they rent a home or condo, that there may be people next door that need to get up and go to work. Many people also sleep year around with their windows open in Hawaii - so sound does travel. Residences want and welcome visitors to have fun , but best to party in the bars in town. Please show respect and consideration to neighbors if you wish to rent in ANY residential area ( condos as well as homes ). We want everyone to enjoy their vacation, so If YOU want to stay up and party at night, perhaps your best suited for the resort hotels?
Pineapple 2 b/r Beach Suite
February 19, 2012
It was a great location and lovely accommodation. It's a bit further than 8 mins to the centre of Kona. Probably 15 - 20mins. Great place and super close to the beach and snorkeling.
Were happy you enjoyed our Pineapple suite. Its is steps to the beach park, great fun waves at one end of the beach and fantastic snorkeling at the other end. We supply the boogie boards and beach chairs. Our old historic Kona town with its restaurants, shops and farmer's market is NORTH a bit over 3 1/2 miles away. Driving the speed limit of 30 , this makes it a 7 minute drive. Perhaps the 15 minute description is out to the new commercial section with Walmart, Target - box stores and fast food hamburgers.. ..yikes ! Also, our upscale small shopping village of Keauhou with supermarket , drug store and restaurants is just 1 1/2 miles SOUTH ( 3 minutes away ).

Great Jump off point

a comfortable and well equipt home. Handy to everything, yet out of the hustle and bustle. Great beach, good swimming, snorkeling, even resident sea turtles. It was a great spot to kick back and enjoy an to have as a base to tour the island from.

Great anniversary celebration in Kona
May 30, 2011
We stayed at the Pineapple Plantation cottage for 10 days. The house was clean, spacious, and well-equipped. Plenty of supplies and toys were available to us like boogie boards and straw mats. We liked the two seating areas on the deck for eating and just enjoying the plumeria and ocean air breezes. We only had a 5 minute walk to White Sands Beach where plenty of turtles were seen! We were close to restaurants and shopping without being too close. We and our friends were both celebrating our 25th wedding anniversaries and couldn't have had a better time.
We didn't go.

No one ever responded to my initial inquiry about the property. We didn't go.
View & Location
January 17, 2011
Puako is a real neighborhood - away from the condoms. This studio looks out across a savannah type landscape to the mountains & sunrise. Very bright - French door windows facing East & north. No ocean view - that's the compromise - but the private mountain view is lovely. The beach is Very! Close -across a country lane. We were there every morning & sunset - so close we could easily carry the some, glasses & chairs. Saw whales breaching one evening & probably a dozen turtles feeding just off shore. It is lava here - not a good place to swim. Experience snorkelers enter 100 yards down the beach. The rest of us drive to a shaded beach a mile to the north. This is a Jewish well kept studio - but we did have a few irritating bugs in the night. Best for a couple - it is a Great Room design. No privacy. You can rent the second room below for a second couple. Great private yard with same view. We would go back in a second. If you must have an ocean view & you want to avoid condoms & you are willing to pay the primiem google Puako - there are several more expensive properties with ocean views. Aloha!

Over all, happy with the home. Very clean, great location, great value for the price, and nicely decorated. Only issues were no hot water in the master bath shower and the refrigerator is pretty ratty looking, though it worked fine. We would stay there again and would recommend it to a friend.
We loved Hawaii and this home. I have absolutely no complaints. The house was charming and comfortable. I don't anticipate being back next year, though. We liked the island so much that we're buying a place there. Thank you for such a beautiful introduction! - Michael & Manpreet Stewart, Modesto, CA August 2011
Thanks for the terrific rental experience at your place. My family had a great time in Kona and the house worked out very well for us. We really appreciated staying at such a well stocked place: it was really nice to have pretty much everything we needed -- regular towels, beach towels, laundry soap, kitchen supplies (tinfoil, baggies, etc), beach accessories, and so on -- already there. Cheers, Greg - The Freeman Family, Vancouver, BC October 2011
I have to tell you the house and location was just perfect for us and was a super value over all hotels we had found. The boogie boards got quite a workout as did the well-appointed kitchen. The location was just close enough to the beach without getting noise from the main road. There were tons of handy supplies and extras. The lanai was super comfy, the resident birds highly atmospheric and entertaining and the steady breeze from the ocean kept things cool. We loved Kona so much we may be back in January (just the two of us)! Thanks again for providing such a lovely, reasonably-priced, very clean family-friendly home to enhance our vacation. - Linda and David Roundhill, Seattle WA July 2011
Thank you so much. The Plantation Beach house was wonderful and we all enjoyed our trip to Kona. The house was very well stocked. It's nice that you provide laundry soap, kitchen items, towels, etc. - less for us to pack or buy. The price was very reasonable for the quality of the home. We stayed in two hotel rooms in Honolulu for 3 nights before coming to Kona and paid more than we did to stay in the Plantation house for a week. And we enjoyed the house much more than the hotel. We would definitely recommend to family and friends. Thanks again! - John & Julie Schmidlkofer, June 2011
We had a FABULOUS stay at this house. The home is well laid out with lots of room and everything we needed for cooking up a storm. I'm pretty sure, whenever there, we ate all our meals out on the fabulous lanai. I also liked early mornings on the lanai, watching the birds take a bath in the neighbor's bird bath... and sunsets were awesome of course. I also enjoyed the local TV station's hula festival coverage, on the nights that we happened to be "home." Well, not MY home, just the home of my dreams. Thanks for all. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Mahalo, Anna Brunelle, Eastham MA, May 2011
Thanks, we had an amazing trip. Pineapple is well stocked and supplied and which we greatly appreciated. The house was clean and functioned well. It was a great visit, great rental and the location was close to town and yet just far enough away to not be in the thick of it. Loved the quick beach access-an easy walk where we always saw turtles. The neighborhood is nice and quiet and the plumeria and hibiscus trees are abundant and looked and smelled amazing. We had a wonderful trip. - The Wadsworths, Concord California May 2011
I wanted to say thank you very much for the wonderful stay! We had an awesome time and the house couldn't have been any better. The house had everything we could ever need... the kitchen had everything to cook (spices, pots, pans, etc.), we had access to all supplies if we needed them and the beds were good. Overall, the house was awesome. I know that when we go back we wouldn't choose anywhere else to stay. The location was good - close to the village and beaches... Great price, there is no way you can beat this deal. It is much more private staying at a house with our family, and it turned out to be quite affordable. Thank you again for the wonderful stay and I hope to stay here again very soon. -- Andrea O., Covina Ca., June 2010
We really enjoyed our stay much more than we had anticipated. The kitchen was great and everything we needed was there. The location was excellent! If we came back, my mother has already talked about re-booking there. Thank you for all of your assistance in helping us make our vacation to Hawaii a memorable one. Your customer service was fantastic. The added bonus of having sand toys, beach towels, coolers, day beds, car seats...all of the extras was what made us decide to choose you and we weren't disappointed. Kind regards, Christine and Scott Adamson, Ottawa March 2010
Our trip was great and the house was perfect. I've recommended your group to several people already. Thanks for everything! The Schneyers, Los Angeles CA, Aug. 2007
We had a fabulous time in Kona thanks to your help in booking the Plantation Pineapple suite. The house is beautiful and it really worked out well for us. Everything was well equipped. Our 13 and 10 year old girls really appreciated the proximity to the lovely beach and the boogie boards. We saved lots of $ by stopping at Costco on our way to the house from the airport like you suggested. We had a full breakfast before leaving the house every morning and took lunch, waters, fruits and drinks every day on our outings to the volcanos and waterfalls. We went on to Maui once we left Kona and boy, we wished you had a property for us there. We stayed in a hotel and it just wasn't the same. We are looking forward to visiting Kona in the future and will definitely give you a call for accommodations. We've recommended you highly and have given your name to several friends and coworkers who plan to visit Kona. -- Mahalo!! The Romos, Irvine CA
We were planning to write you a letter to tell you how great our visit was. The [pineapple suite] was WONDERFUL. You had said it was fully equipped, but we were still surprised that anything and everything we needed was there. We had no problems other than a toilet started leaking. But we called and someone came that same day to fix it. The weather was beautiful and we did a devotion everyday sitting on the porch (as we Southerners call it). It was clear weather the whole time we were there and we did everything we had planned without any troubles. Thanks so much for contributing to our awesome visit to Hawaii. If we are ever blessed to come again we will definitely be giving you a call. And anyone I know that gets to take the trip, I will recommend your company to them.
Aloha - Kathy Liniscombe, Midland TX, Feb. 2008
Being there with just my 12 year old son, we had a great time doing "guys stuff". My son went face to face with a big wild pig. I don't know who was more scared, pig or kid. ... We were gone for the day and when we returned the maid had pulled our stuff out of the dryer, folded them, and brought upstairs. She did not have to, but did. We have friends in Australia who we may meet half way in Hawaii. When we do, I will call.
Al Biller, Renton WA, Feb. 2008
We loved the porch. The location is great and so were all the rooms. We lived in luxury and enjoyed ourselves. The supplies of everything we could imagine was wonderful. We were very impressed and very happy there. We would/will highly recommend the Pineapple Suite to anyone we know heading over to Hawaii.
