What a lovely winter escape from it all. I came to appreciate the lack of internet, television and land-line telephone. Since this cabin came advertised with all three of these amenities, we could truthfully tell our kids that these would be available and then, when we arrived to find that none of them worked, we were blameless --a blessing in disguise. Since our cell phones also did not work there we couldn't even call to complain! Yeah! (Luckily we were able to avoid finding out who won the football playoffs and watched that when we got home on our tivo -and there were no work/personal emergencies that happened so the telephone number we gave out to contact us wasn't needed by anyone.) We truly enjoyed the wood-burning fireplace and none of those annoying smoke detectors around to blare at us if smoke was escaping into the cabin as we relaxed staring into the lovely heat of the fire (or as we slept). Making your way through the snow to the hot tub then sweating in the sauna was a great way to pamper sore muscles after a day of skiing -and the hot tub was working too! -even though the instructions made it clear that it was a free amenity -as all of them are- and there would be no compensation for any of the amenities advertised that were not working -many of them did work! -the ones I cared most about anyway). The beds were warm and had comfy flannel sheets. Lots of room to spread out all of our ski gear. We were less than 20 miles from skiing at Crystal and would see a herd of graceful, beautiful Elk wandering the community every morning on our way up to the ski resort. The vacation was a very relaxing success with card games, fires, saunas, hot tub and the dinners we made (and ate together around the table!) and a bottle or two of wine. A great place to have that family vacation and truly disconnect yourselves (and perhaps your reluctant kids) from the digital chatter of our age.
