The Lazy Lizard is a secluded and romantic home-away-from home located on an island with its own timeless character - North Captiva. Often confused with Captiva - North Captiva is an entirely separate island. There is no automobile access to the island and electric golf carts are the means of transport around the sandy trails of this paradise. Bridged or linked islands cannot compare with North Captiva Island (also known as Upper Captiva).
The Lazy Lizard is located in the "Jose's Hideaway" area of North Captiva Island and sits nestled in the midst of palm trees where you can enjoy the gentle sound of the surf, warm gulf breezes and seclusion. The sandy lane at the end of the Lazy Lizard driveway leads you 500 feet to the magnificent beach overlooking the Gulf where you can stroll nearly deserted beaches, view awesome sunsets, and enjoy shelling, watching the many species of birds, dolphins, manatees and gopher turtles.
The Lazy Lizard is the perfect setting to experience the uncrowded pleasures of a truly tropical paradise. Enjoy all the conveniences of home at the Lazy Lizard that features an open concept kitchen with all the appliances and kitchenware needed. The large dining room has a large dining table with comfortable seating. The two full bathrooms contain both shower and tub and include towels, washcloths, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hair dryer for your convenience. The three comfortable bedrooms include King Size bed, Queen Size bed and Double Bed. There is an office area with internet/wifi access and a laundry area with washer/dryer which includes detergent and fabric softener sheets for your use. The spacious living room contains ample seating and a flat screen television with satellite service as well as a DVD player with a large variety of DVD's available for viewing. The wrap around deck has a table with chairs for outside dining and relaxing. There is a screened-in lanai on ground level that is perfect for relaxing and contains two full size futons. The outside shower, hammock, and lounge chairs enhance your comfort and enjoyment. The golf cart (The Lizardmobile!) is ready to go so that you can cruise the island and explore the many wonders that abound on the tropical paradise of North Captiva Island. The Lazy Lizard also provides amenities such as cabanas, beach blankets, beach bags and two bicycles for your use and enjoyment.

Dream vacation of a lifetime

In one hundred years, when my husband and I will look back on our travels, The Lazy Lizard on North Captiva Island, Florida, will top the list. It has the distinction of being off the mainland of Florida, reachable by ferry, which adds to the quaintness of the entire experience. Getting around the island is accomplished by golf cart, bike, or foot, allowing one to reach back in time and really relax. At the ferry, you are met by the caretaker of the Lazy Lizard, who gives you a tutorial on the highlights of the island, and assists you with your bags and becoming familiar with your home away from home, even offering to go to the mainland grocery store, should you run out of something. The home is perfectly equipped with all the things one might need in the kitchen, bath, living room, deck, beach chairs, umbrellas and sun sail tents (our personal favorite) The people you encounter are so pleasant, leaving us wondering if it has something to do with the fact that everyone is "On Island Time" and has no worries. There are a few restaurants on the island, reservations suggested if in high season. Our favorite was Over the Water, a 2 minute golf cart ride, wonderfully fresh, interesting chef prepared food. He might even serve you if the waitress is busy. The owner Ava, was truly a beautiful soul, who was concerned with our comfort, even leaving us a 4 page handwritten note on where to hike, go to the beach, her favorite restaurants, who to call locally should an issue arise. Over the course of the month we spent there, we encountered no problems. If you seek the simple life, enjoy observing nature, love the beach, searching for the perfect sea shell, this is it! There are no big grocery stores on the island, so you need to buy your provisions on the mainland, use ice and freezer bags to transport it. Sounds like a big deal, but the grocery store clerks know the drill and are there to help. WE dream of going back. I hope you are as lucky!
Thank you Gary and Jeanne for your kind words. You are such wonderful guests and I am so glad you found The Lazy Lizard to be your home away from home on the serene paradise that is North Captiva Island. You are true islanders ! I do hope you will return. Thanks again for choosing The Lazy Lizard !
True island home away from home...

The Lazy Lizard is like another world! It's within walking distance to the beach and has every comfort of home and more you could ask for. Very private setting where the home is located (important to us) and the beach near the home, you can sit for hours without seeing anyone. We made the mistake of not renting at the Lazy Lizard once because it was booked. Not all rentals have the same love and attention to detail that the Lazy Lizard has. You will want a golf cart and a washer and dryer (some rentals don't include them like the lazy lizard)! All of the furniture is super comfy to relax on after a day at the beach. With the lizard rental we can pack much lighter, because careful thought and consideration has gone into the rental. And the decor is just beautiful! We are going to the L.L again in September and just cannot wait! We highly recommend this beach home away from home.
