Reviews for this vacation apartment rental in Old San Juan, North, Puerto Rico
Good location, good host
May 4, 2015
Very well located in old san juan, walking distance from the historic sites, the restaurants and bars. 5-10 minutes drive from the beaches. The appartment is clean, confortableand spacious. the kitchen has everything we need although it is a little bit small. We have met with Fredy, our host, who has been very nice to us. We recommend this appartment with no hésitation. You have to know that parking a car in old san juan can be quite a big deal!

Wonderful nine days on Sol Street! Great location to see the sights, all within walking distance. Fredy was very helpful and assisted us with any needs. If you're looking for something low key this is the place. Even the neighbors and 'local cats' were friendly.
Great Property & Location!

Stayed at this property for a week. Wish it had been longer. The pictures and description of this property were perfect. Represented well with no surprises. Fredy knows what he's doing and is on top of things as far as communication and getting the keys to you on your arrival. He met me at the door when I got in and showed me around. I had been to Old San Juan on several occasions and knew the area so I didn't need to ask many questions, but he's there for you if you want to know where the market is, or have any questions at all...he's only a text/email/or phone call away. The area is safe and perfectly located between the Forts (Catillo San Cristobal and San Felipe del Morro). Walking distance to countless bars and restaurants for authentic dining experiences and close enough to the tourist area near the piers that you can have all that area has to offer yet still get back to the apartment where many fewer tourists venture. This allows you to live more like a local for your time and experience the true flavors of Old San Juan. I wouldn't hesitate renting this place from Fredy once again and I wouldn't change a thing about this trip. I can't wait to get back to hear the sound of the Cocqui's throughout the evening, talk with the friendly and charming people that live in Viejo San Juan, and enjoy the warmth that Fredy's apartment and my favorite island in the Caribbean has to offer. Until next time...

We had a great trip to Old San Juan (OSJ) and stayed in this historic apartment for the weekend. Everything was as pictured and expected. It is in a great location in OSJ, blocks from San Cristobal, El Morro and great bars on San Sebastian. The apartment is very spacious and had everything we needed. The only recommendation I have is that hooks or somewhere to hang damp towels/clothes would be helpful. There is no AC however the numerous ceiling fans kept the place comfortable. The private patio is between the apartment and bathroom and while I actually liked this setup during the day it could make for an interesting middle of the night trip when raining. Picking up and dropping of the key was seamless. Wilfredo was very nice and helpful. Thank you for sharing your property w/ us!
Excellent location !

I can't say enough about this apartment and it's owner Freddy. Freddy was extremely hospitable and knowledgable. The apartment was in a great location just steps away from El Morro, shops, restaurants and much more! You can't beat the price and experience, especially if you are looking to get to know the cities great history. Thanks for everything Freddy! I look forward to see you next time.

The apartment was clean comfortable and Fredy was a great help. The location of the apartment was right by everything (steps distance) without being to close to the loud crowds. We had a great time during our vacation and our group of friends who chose to stay in hotels were envious of our apartment rental.

Location, Location -- and Pretty Comfortable Too!
April 12, 2014
This apartment is perfect for those who want to experience Old San Juan. We consider it a bargain at the price. It is attractively furnished and decorated, with excellent air circulation. The bed is fine: we slept well. The kitchen is quite adequate and well equipped for breakfasts, snacks, etc. (albeit the toaster didn't work). It is on a relatively quiet street -- except when the garbage truck comes by -- near the San Cristobal fort and 10-15 minutes walk to anywhere in OSJ. It is not luxurious by any definition, but quite comfortable. The one bathroom requires some patience -- no hot water in the sink, only tepid in the shower and there are strictures against putting paper in the toilet. I have a feeling however that this is probably typical of these old houses. The owner, Fredy, is engaging and easy to deal with, both in arranging the rental over the internet and in greeting us on our arrival. The apartment also has some unexpectedly good modern features such as HDTV with HBO (!) and an excellent wireless connection. All in all, we greatly enjoyed our stay, will recommend this to our friends and hope to stay there again one of these days.
Great Place, Host and Experience
March 28, 2014
Emily and I had a great Spring Break in Old San Juan and Puerto Rico, and we owe much of that to Fredy and his place. There's not much we can say that hasn't already been said: it's a great location, Fredy is a great host, and it really is the best bargain around. I don't know when we might be able to return to the island, but when we do, this rental will be at the very top of our list.

Wonderful Locations, lovely apartment
January 12, 2014
We spent 8 nights here starting Dec. 26, 2013 and was a little leery at the great rate and never being in Od San Juan before was not sure what to expect. All my reservations were put to rest when we met Fredy. He is such a great host and the apartment was much bigger then I had expected and worked out well for my self and husband. Most of the time we were out roaming the city..we did not rent a car as there were non available so a word of advice...if you are going during a holiday be sure to rent ahead....but really had no need for one in the city. Many restaurants close by....not to mention all the pubs. The apartment itself reminded me of French Quarter in New Orleans....a shotgun house...long and narrow...but loved it. Being on the street level did have a lot of noise but this is a city and what is expected. It was a great place for us to come home to at night and sleep and that is just what we did. Don't expect a lot as this is "Old" San Juan and enjoy a comfortable apartment to come home to at night.in a very safe neighbor hood. Also many cats on street and never saw bugs or rodents...so that is a plus to me.

The apartment is in an excellent location in Old San Juan. It was very clean, and the owner was very easy to communicate with by email, and extremely nice. The rooms are all connected so there is no privacy, and the kitchen is very small, but if you are a family looking for an apartment this is a great spot.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Old San Juan with the old world charm of a local apartment. The apartment had all the amenities of any vacation rental, plus a few extras. We were in walking distance to all the sites and shopping, and found the free trolley system to be an added bonus. We can hardly wait to come back to visit Old San Juan and our special spot next time. thank you for making our honeymoon something to cherish and remember forever.
Very nice quaint apt.
November 7, 2013
We came to Puerto Rico for a business trip so we weren't looking for anything fancy. We found this apt. listing and it was perfect for us. It was in a perfect spot to walk to all of Old San Juan very easily. We enjoyed our stay very much. The only drawback is the lack of A/C but we understood that was part of the agreement. The apt has air in the bedrooms but not in the main shared spaces. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely rent this apt again. Thanks!!

Our family meets once a year in Purerto Rico. We come from all over the United States. This was the first time we rented an apartment instead of staying at family member homes or a hotel. We all agreed that this was a wonderful choice. The location was optimum. We were able to cook, had wi-fi and the genuine feel of old San Juan. The owner was very accomodating and a true gem! We will definitely stay here again in the future. We highly recommend this location.

The location is perfect, walking thru SJ is just what the Doctor prescribed for my family and I . We stayed 7 days and every single day we did something different and exciting. In the AM I jogged around the castle to the Morro area. Eat breakfast at the local cafes and start our day. Bike riding to the beach, was awesome! My nephew loved it , every single day. Walking around the town is just so relaxing. Shopping, drinking at the many pubs and lounge,or just sitting at the many "plazitas" and interact with the locals is just great ! We rented a car to venture to other parts of the Island and that was great too. On Sundays the place to be is Guavate, Cayei. It's in the mountains and its a must go . Be there by 2pm . And get ready to eat drink and dance with the entire family. Freddy is fantastic , he makes sure you are well taken care of. He is always a call or text away! Any property he manages I trust and recommend. He is a true gentleman and knows how to take care of his guests. I will be returning to Puerto Rico for the X-mas season and will be staying in any of Freddy's properties. This time I will be staying much longer. Thank you Freddy for your hospitality and your friendship see you soon ! Louisa and Lumi
Experience the REAL Puerto Rico
April 26, 2013
I highly recommend this place to stay if you want a taste of what Puerto Rico is all about. It is perfectly situated in downtown Old San Juan. You can not beat the price of the stay, and also the sincere hospitality of its owner Freddy and his family. You will not want to go home. We stayed 6 days and loved every minute of it. The place is well equipped with all the kitchen supplies if you want to relax and cook a home made meal. And the place is toward the outer part of the city, so the foot traffic is not that loud. I will defiantly stay here again!!

What an amazing place! We would recommend freddie's plane to anyone visiting Puerto Rico and old San Juan. It was the best location and the apartment had everything that we needed for our stay. We even bought local food and cooked in our kitchen. This saved us from having to eat out for every meal of the day. Freddie and his family were so accommodating. They did everything to make our stay comfortable. If I ever go back to San Juan I will definitely stay with Friday.

What a great experience! I travel frequently and have seen the good and the bad when it comes to vacation rentals. Freddys historic Old San Juan apartment ranks at the top for me. First- the pictures do not do justice to the listing. The apartment is very large and comfortable. With 20 foot ceilings and a breeze that flows through the apartment, there was never an issue with the temperature. A full kitchen was very handy as I was traveling my wife and two sons 4 and 7. We kept the fridge stocked and made use of the stove. All dishes and towels and linens were provided. The location is very safe. Ive been to San juan a few times and would highly recommend this location as it is easy to walk to all the sites. We rented a car during some of our 10 day stay and never had issue finding parking. Freddy and his family live above but we never heard a thing as the house is made of stone and is in itself a historic landmark. Here is some really good information: this apartment sits between the two main forts, it is very close 1-5 min walking to great restaurants, laundy . Taxis and bus terminal 8min walking at the most. My wife and kids walked Old san Juan at any hour of the eve and had no issues. Wifi worked great. There is a resident Coquis frog living somewhere in the open patio area that kept my boys enchanted in trying to find him. The bed was excellent. My boys slept on the fold out couch in the sitting area. The front living room has full cable and two couches. Plenty of room for the four of us. It is hard to tell from the pics but the apartment goes back a long ways to it was easy for us to all have our our areas in the evenings to relax. 5 times the size of a hotel room. As to rental cars, the street Calle Sol is very very easy to access. I had no issue driving to Arecibo 1.5 hours to see the Cueva Ventana or to El Yunque 1.2 hours all interstate driving. Parking is on the street. If you need to though there are 2 garages 8-10min walk away. Also of note: Walgreens, Burger King and Super Max (grocery store) all within 10 min walk though beautiful streets. I was looking for reasons to go to the store just for the walk there. Bring a spare shopping bag with you as I used it to carry our fresh bread and groceries back to the apartment every few days. If you want 5 star resort pass. If you want to have a really nice affordable place- stay here. So in conclusion couples and familys alike looking for a true San Juanero experience will love this place! Thank you

Great location to Old San Juan areas of El Morro, San Cristobal, shops, resturants, and the Pier areas. Fredy was excellent with directions and help in the local neighborhood. This apartment gave you a real sense of neighbors and the flavor of Old San Juan. Many spots were within walking distance. Food Music Festival during our stay was an added bonus.

Perfect Location & Fredy is Great

We are so glad we found this apartment! Everything in Old San Juan is walking distance, but if you get tired by the end of the day, the free trolley has a stop only two blocks from this rental. The owner Fredy is better than any hotel concierge. He checked on taxi prices for us, helped us find museums and sights, recommended restaurants nearby and was always just a phone call or text away if we needed anything. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to Puerto Rico.
Old Town San Jaun

Our Janurary visit to San Jaun was a total success. We stayed in a roomy, airy, very comfortable apartment.Relaxing and having breakfast on the open air patio was wonderful. We were close to the ocean centered between the two forts (El Morro and San Cristobal). The weather was wonderful (low 80's and sunny). We felt safe and comfortable strolling all of the streets of Old Town, day or night. We will return to relax and enjoy the winter weather.

We spent the weekend of the Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian here. Excellent location, not too close for comfort, but right in the middle of it. Very nice place, absolutely clean. The owner was very kind and more than accomodating. We would repeat in a blink. Thank you

We loved this Old San Juan apartment and location!
December 20, 2011
We 3 adults stayed 3 nights in this apartment and found it to be roomy, comfortable, attractive in an Old San Juan way, and well worth the moderate price. If you are looking for very modern appliances and all the comforts of home, you will probably be disappointed and sorry that you did not stay at a resort. However, if you want to live more like the Old San Juan locals, you'll be very satisfied. My 22 year old daughter especially loved it and would return in a heartbeat, especially since it is located about a block from the water and close to the fort. Actually, any of us would return to this apartment and location in a heartbeat. We were warmly greeted by our host, and he was always willing to greet and help us. We were also greeted every day by the neighborhood cats, all which were friendly and affectionate (after just a few moments of caution). Actually, we were pleasantly surprised by all the cats and pigeons in Old San Juan, and they had no real fear of people. The apartment was only about a 10 minute walk from the more modern Pier area, where the cruise ships land. This is a real convenience if you drive a car (we had a rental so that we could tour the whole island) because parking garages are nearby. However, we managed to find a parking space near our apartment each night, which probably saved us $50 or more. However, streets are very narrow, so finding a parking place can take some searching. But, we always succeeded without any real stress. Again, Old San Juan is a real treat for spending a few days or more, and Fredy's apartment was a perfect location for us. Although it is situated near one end of Old San Juan, have no fear. Old San Juan is very "walkable" from end-to-end. Which reminds me. We had no idea that Puerto Rico was so hilly and mountainous. So, if you plan on walking around Old San Juan, be ready to walk down and up some steep streets (maybe 100 - 200 yards long?). But it can be enjoyable because of the bluish cobble stone pavement. Finally, my daughter found one more apartment feature very appealing----she could smoke if she chose to. And Fredy's apartment has plenty area for smoke to quickly disappear through and not bother anybody. It also has a nice television to smoke and drink beer by-----if that is what you like (and which we took advantage of).

We will stay here every time we come back. Such a great living space and so convenient to get anywhere in Old San Juan. Thanks again to Freddy and his super cute mom. We loved seeing her every day out on her stoop chatting with all the neighbors. We felt right at home.
