Our family loved vacationing together in this grand house. We were delighted that the owner allowed us to bring a dog so that he could enjoy this wonderful vacation with us. In fact, the owner of the house made us feel welcome from the first time I contacted him about the property. We had more than enough room to spread out and the spaciousness of the house felt very luxurious. It was a very inviting place to hang out with friends and family. We enjoyed watching tennis on TV in the comfortable living room, and eating outside on the deck overlooking a view that made our hearts sing. We also loved taking mountain hikes with the dog and playing golf at the nearby golf courses. The well-stocked pantry reduced stress because everything we needed was right there. We felt very blessed to be together in this big, beautiful house with its big, beautiful views.
Many thanks, Martin and Annilee! I treasure your expression, "a view that made our hearts sing", because that's the way a lot of us feel when looking out from our house atop the eastern continental divide into Tennessee. Also, I am pleased that you had time to be a part of the many activities in the Roaring Gap area, and enjoyed staying at our big old (but updated) house where we lived for so many years. Come back when you can, we would love to see you again....Jim

Wonderful House and Amazing Views!
August 18, 2014
Our family was thrilled with this house. We had a group of all ages, from a 14 month old to grandparents and this house accommodated and was a joy to stay in. The massive decking and had ample tables and chairs, that was surrounded by with child safe railing was our main sitting area for the stay. The view was spectacular! Ever changing with the daylight and shadows-we never tired of looking over the vast mountain ranges. The pictures of the house are great, but still the house was nicer and had much more space than we imagined. Every room was comfortable and had everything we needed to feel at home. The family wants to go back and stay again in different seasons to enjoy the view, especially fall. There are many shops and restaurants of every sort near by . The Blue Ridge Parkway only a few short miles away. This was a perfect get away for our family, and we do hope to go again.
We really appreciate your review. We seem to be in a central location for the gathering of extended families. Some take advantage of the fact that one of our three Master Suites is garage level with no ramps or steps. I am glad you enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway, and maybe you had time to visit Stone Mountain State Park, only 5 miles away. Hopefully, you can come back in the fall to see all nature's colors. Since we face directly south, we get to see exceptional sunrises & sunsets all year round
A Great Mountain Get Away
A wonderful week in the mountains. Spectacular view of the mountains and valley. Home is spacious, beautifully decorated, well equipped with your every need. Well done in every way. The home accommmodates a larger family/group or is equally as cozy for a couple. Most impressed with how well maintained the property is, clean to perfection. Located in a lovely golfing community. Deer sightings frequent and exciting. Enjoyed a nearby ride on the BlueRidge Parkway, shopping in both Roaring Gap and Sparta. Lovely gift shops nearby. A really lovely place and we would definitely return as often as possible. We would highly recommend this vacation get away. It is all that it is advertised to be, plus more. The owners were wonderful to work with, wanting their guests to be as comfortable as possible, most accommodating. Love Stone Mountain State Park, a short distance away.
Paradise in house and views!
Ultra Vista is the ultimate in space and views, only exceeded by Jim Massey, the owner and host, in graciousness. The house worked perfectly for my house parties of 4 couples, then 4 singles needing private rooms each. It's got a bedroom for all needs; private bath, quiet, views, king beds, queen beds, and each room has its unique grandeur. I especially enjoyed offering guests a private deck and sliding doors with their room. The house was easy for a 30-person outdoor dinner party, the decks offered shade or sun, and the view is magnificent. I want to return to UltraVIsta...it makes the hostess look great!
It was great
This well maintained home was comfortably decorated and offered sleeping arrangements for our group of 8 lady golfers (some of us had to double up). A couple of the bedrooms were rather small but the opening of the new master suite in the coming months should provide more space for future guests. The owner greeted us upon arrival and was accessible throughout our visit. The home is conveniently located near High Meadows Country Club and Old Beau Golf Club and is a short drive to Sparta for groceries, shopping & restaurants. The kitchen offers cooking & eating utensils, two ovens, refrig, microwave and a rather large pantry. The deck on the back of the house was perfect for social hour as it faced the panoramic view of the Piedmont Mountains. We hope to return to Roaring Gap next year & will definitely consider renting the place again.
Our group of 12 golfers has been going to Roaring Gap for an annual golf outing for about 30 years. We have rented several different houses in the area over that period of time. It was the unanimous consensus of the group that our accommodations at 331 Ridge Road were the best ever. The scenic view from the balconies was better than the photos, plenty of clean living/sleeping space with sheets provided, and bathrooms with ample towels and washclothes. The owner checked with us periodically to make sure all was going well. A very comfortable and relaxed stay, other than my poor golf performance which had nothing to do with the accommodations.
Dream Come True
This was our first holiday home rental and we wanted to go to a serene relaxing place to unwind. This chalet was the perfect place to enjoy our holidays. The location is perfect and the views are so magnificent. This property has a lot of sleeping capacity and our party of 10 was easily accommodated in their choicest bedrooms. All the bedrooms have a breath-taking view of the mountains. All the furniture is very tasteful and the property does not lack any amenities. We had brought our own barbecue grill which is not even required as they have 2 large grills (both gas and charcoal). Their bathrooms are lavish especially in two of their main bedrooms. The kitchen is perfectly equipped and does not lack anything. But the highlight of our trip was meeting Mr. Jim who is a perfect host and a gentlemen. He was very kind and we had a great interaction with him. He was readily available to answer any questions regarding the property and the area and even took pains to show us around the property. We really enjoyed our stay here and would surely try to come back soon.

Hey Jim, Just wanted to thank you for making our family get-together GREAT!! You have a very lovely unique, one of a kind home. Everything was very clean, well stocked and decorated beautifully. Loved the showers with 3 shower heads and the Jacuzzi. All the beds were like sleeping on clouds. The view off the back is beautiful day or night. For our large group we were not short of linen, towels or pillows. Very well supplied for a large group. The neighbor hood is very quite. It felt like we were secluded even though we were in a golf community. I loved how Stone Mountain park was just a few minutes from the house. It is a lovely park worth the trip. Our family also enjoyed Boone and Winston-Salem. I would highly recommend this property to friends or family. If we come back to that area again next year I will be sure to give you a call. Thanks again Jim for your lovely unique home. Sincerely, Debbie and Family
Family Christmas Weekend
We had the privilege of meeting Jim by accident. Ted and I were searching for a mountain rental the weekend before Christmas to escape “elderly family (5, ages from 78-98) holiday responsibilities!” We were seeking the perfect place to spend time with our children and granddaughter. We continually met dead ends. Veteran’s day we ventured to Sparta determined to return with a house. After our 3rd reality stop, the agent provided a number for another lady realtor. Just so happened Jim answered the phone. Upon my request, he said he had a house for rent. With hesitation, we agreed to meet him. After greetings, I asked Jim if I was going to like his house. He replied, “You’re never going to want to leave!” Indeed, what a home! Not only was it perfect, it was decorated for the holiday. The beds, linens, kitchen needs, etc. are top notch. Because of this beautiful home with its many amenities and spectacular view, we “cozied up!” We are a “cooking” family from Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon to Mahi Mahi and Beef Tenderloin, we feasted. The kids are already planning menus for next year … it was truly a memorable occasion. Lastly, we have rented our home many years for the HP Furniture Market, I am quite picky, but absolutely nothing to “pick” about Jim’s home!
Quilt Retreat Success 10X over !!
Our group of 8 ladies were looking for a great place for our annual "quilt retreat" and this beautiful home provided us with A++ accommodations. There was plenty of room for us to sleep comfortably and to set up all our sewing machines. The owner, Jim, even provided us with the tables and chairs that we needed to set up our sewing stations. We were hoping for snow and were not disappointed since the area had the worst snowfall in years, but it provided the Florida gals with some beautiful white scenery. Thank you for such a wonderful week of many completed quilting projects and new memories to cherish for years to come.
Mom's 80th Birthday
For several weeks I looked for the right house to celebrate my mom’s 80th birthday early in April. Who would have thought that I would find it in Roaring Gap, NC…a place I did not know exist until I saw the house ad. Our party of ten included my parents, both in their 80s, my seven-year old niece and we also brought two family dogs. Because we travel everywhere with our pets, it is hard to find a nice and clean place to rent so when I came across the “Ultravista” house, I contacted the owner immediately. He agreed to let both dogs stay after I promised that we would take good care of the house. I even told him we would leave the house cleaner than how we would find it…and we did make good on our promise! The house was perfect for our family gathering. The short drive to High Meadows Country Club was beautiful, even during early spring. What we loved the best was the view of the mountains from every single room. The décor was very nice. The house was clean and we got plenty of linens and nice towels. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and the gas fireplace kept the house warm and cozy. The house is very well-designed with two King-size beds in the master bedrooms on the main level so my parents did not have to climb stairs. On the other hand, my niece really enjoyed the three levels and she had fun playing ping pong. There was not much traffic in the area so some of us were able to take the dogs on long walks down the roads while enjoying the neighborhood. Also, the dogs had easy access to a nice yard on the first floor so the house layout was great for all our needs. After many emails and phone conversations, my entire family and I finally got the pleasure of meeting Jim, the house owner. He is a very interesting person, super personable, friendly and with a great sense of humor. We appreciate his attentiveness and his recommendation to visit Stone Mountain State Park and to dine at Nikola’s Restaurant, where we had a memorable dinner for my mom’s birthday. It was hard to end our short trip but we hope to return to “Ultravista” someday not too far away!
Home is well equipped and has a beautiful view. The bedrooms are very nice and the common living areas were inviting for evening conversations. Would recommend to friends and will rent again. Owner was very helpful and responsive to all requests.
The BEST rental you will ever stay in!
We rented this house as the location for our wedding and as a place for our wedding party to stay. And let me tell you, it was the best decision I made. The beautiful yard and view were the perfect backdrops. The large deck was accommodating for all 40 guests. And everyone in our wedding party slept perfectly in the heavenly beds. I personally enjoyed the jetted bathtub and over the top showers. But most importantly, Jim Massey is a wonderful and lovely person to work with. He was straightforward and open to talking to us about anything with the house. And since he designed and built it, he is connected to the history of the house and is invested in making sure that your stay is perfect.
My family stayed at the Massey House for family event. I have stayed in many place around the country and the world. To date, there has been no place as beautiful, accommodating, or owners as friendly as this location and it's owner Jim Massey. My wife, myself and family were thrilled with our stay and Jim Massey made us feel as welcome as if we were part of his family. To anyone considering this area for visit you will be very please in choosing this property. It is perfect for kids, gatherings of friends and family, retreats, and simple getaways. I give the Massey House the highest recommendation available. The beauty is breathtaking!
A beautiful home and an even better view. We had a nice relaxing time. Thank you!
girls house party greta
The setting of Ultravista can't be beat. We loved the expansive accommodations (thanks for the twin beds addition) and that deck. the host, Jim Massey is always responsive and available if one has any challenges. The house was perfect for our group of 10 women and we loved our second stay there.
Chalet stay was wonderful with an awesome view
Jim greeted the first of our party, we all arrived at different times, and gave a complete tour of the home. Rooms were spotless, plenty of towels for use after showering in the amazing shower that was handicap friendly, had multiple heads and a built in seat, as well as a beautiful view of the mountains and the deer in the back yard. We were in town for my son's wedding so I had no time to use the jacuzzi but it looked very inviting. The size of the house permitted, aunts, uncles, parents, and grandma to all stay and and visit together while still having the ability to retreat to private rooms as needed. My brothers and the groom had a great time playing ping pong. The setting made for some wonderful pictures of the men getting dressed including one of them pretending to hold my son back from "taking the plunge " off the second story deck. We all wished we'd have had more time to spend here.
This house was a fabulous retreat for our yearly "girls" reunion. The views are spectacular and the house is large, spacious and very comfortable. We have been getting together for over 10 years on our trips, and this house, is our favorite. Jim is delightful, wonderful to work with, and available for any questions you may have. We definitely will be back!
CGA Super Senior Tournament
Wonderful, we could hardly believe our eyes when we first saw the home. Five golfers and wives stayed in this fantastic home. The views were spectacular and every bedroom had a senic view. The owner went out of his was to be certain that we had everything that we needed. We took advantage of the beautiful deck and enjoyed breakfast and the evening meal outdoors. The beds, linens and towels were the quality of any 5 star resort. I would recommend this home to anyone seeking a fantastic getaway.
The rental experience to this mountain chalet was wonderful! The house is beautiful, the mountain view is beyond beautiful and all the necessities were great! The owner was wonderful to work with, very attentive to making sure that everything was is order and especially helpful with the special accommodations needed for my Mother. We did have to travel a bit to get to the sites we wanted to see.....but the ride with the scenery is beautiful. This chalet is a must stay! Great and friendly people in roaring Gap!
If you are looking for a great place to get away, spectacular views and a beautiful place to stay ... then you are looking at the right place. The pictures are just a glimpse at what you will find. This was our ninth year that six (6) of us from six (6) different states got together to ride and the Chalet met all our expectations and more. You will not find a friendly host than Jim to do business with and who is willing to assist you in exploring the countryside. He was their to meet our group and to make sure everything was in order. To sum it up ... we had a great experience and definitely recommend it.
Gorgeous home with incredible views
My family enjoyed four days in this beautiful home, with incredible views. The house and views were far better than we even imagined. There were 16 of us and we had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the inside and outside spaces, which were clean and wonderfully appointed. The beds were all very comfortable! The kitchen was well stocked and easy to cook in. This home did not seem like a rental because it was furnished with such lovely furnishings and accessories, and was clean and well-maintained. While in the area, my family enjoyed hiking, driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a lovely dinner at Nikola's Italian Restaurant, recommended by the owner. The location of the home allowed easy access to the area. The owner was delightful. He did all he could to make sure our stay was all we hoped for. The reason for our trip was to celebrate our mom's 90th birthday. The owner was so kind to her; he even gave her a lovely jade plant as a gift. Now that's a caring host! I would be happy to recommend this property to friends and relative's.
Four siblings (and their spouses) make an annual trip to NC with their precious Mom to return her to her old stomping grounds and visit some of her family. She is 94 and still making the trip! There were 9 members of our family in this spacious, warm and well-laid out home! We have stayed many different places and this was our favorite, by far. There were still several empty beds! We all had our own bedroom/bathroom and felt like we had our own house. We came together for our meals in the comfortable living area and did I mention the VIEW?. It was obvious that this home was designed with the "Love of Family" in mind. When we arrived, the bad weather that had been predicted seemed to be upon us. The next morning, we were greeted with fog and were fearful that we would be denied the view that we'd seen online and had looked so forward to, but the weather favored us after all. Not only were we were able to make our annual 5-mile hike up to Caudill Cabin and another to Stone Mountain, but the view revealed itself to be more spectacular than we had imagined!!! We met the owner on our last day there and he was very accommodating. He wanted to make sure our stay was everything we had hoped for. It was more.........
WoW...this place is AMAZING! It starts right when you walk into the front door. Jim is the nicest and most accomodating owner you will ever meet. He wants your trip and his rental to be a great experience and is there anytime you need him. This is a perfect gathering spot if you want an "in-between" meeting place from the North and South. We had family driving from Michigan and Florida; two of our active duty young men flew into Charlottesville, which was only a hour away. We were so lucky with the weather...in the morning, we woke to a blanket of snow, with crisp winter air and a view that would take your breath away. The snow was perfect to make a snowman and snowangels...two of the teens had never seen snow before, so this was a real treat! Anywhere you go into this well planned and custom built home, you will have views that will be forever engrained into your mind because they are even greater than what you could take in a picture. The sun rises and sun sets are full with colors...just jaw dropping!!! We took a very short drive into the Stone Mountain State Park and hiked in to see some wonderful waterfalls - the next day, we hiked up to the Summit. For Thanksgiving, we brought our smoker and asked Jim for his help in locating a meat market. Jim did not disappoint us...we purchased the most delicious and tender turkey and tasty briskets from Combs Butcher Shop in Elkin, which was only 20 minutes away. You will also be delighted to know that there is a Super Walmart in Elkin, which was convenient for all of our shopping needs. Everyone slept great; all of the beds are comfortable and warm. The ping pong table was also great for those "Short" tournaments...Thank you Jim for allowing us to stay in your home. If anyone out there is looking for a perfect rental that has it all, this is the one!!!
