Bird watch and fish off your own private lighted pier in the backyard or just sit and watch the beautiful sunsets from our our home on Copano Bay.
Our home sits right on Copano Bay - not on a canal - not a 'bay view" - not 'bay access". Right on the bay. There is a huge deck on the bayside with a picnic table and a covered porch. This is the perfect vacation destination - it just doesn't get easier and more fun. Available for short term rentals as well as monthly for Winter Texans.
Come sit on our deck and watch the dolphins play! Drink coffee in the shade every morning and toast the sunset over the bay every night. Catch redfish, trout, flounder and blue crab from your pier. Watch the majestic blue herons hunting right in your own backyard. The palm trees, the fishing, the view, and the soft air of the Gulf Coast will delight you.
Rockport is also know as a birding destination. Here's a brief of the first 6 months of the Rockport Calendar of Birds:

May- over 140 species can be expected including warblers, tanager and more

You have your own private lighted fishing pier right in the backyard - all to yourself with benches, two separate platforms and a covered cleaning station with power and water. You have a 1500w high intensity fishing light and an underwater light which really can bring in the fish at night! Access two private boat ramps right in the neighborhood and you are located right on the water and in the heart of some the best saltwater fishing in the state.
Our home has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and living room with cable TV and wireless internet. There are two bedrooms and two baths. The master bedroom has a king and guest room has queen sized bed. The house sleeps 4-6 comfortably. There are 2 twin beds in the breakfast area. Located on the Live Oak peninsula, Rockport is a haven of ancient oak trees surrounded by water on three sides. Rockport is also home to a thriving art community, and along with Fulton, a treasure trove of old Texas history.
Birds on Copano Bay is in the Holiday Beach neighborhood, located on the northeast shore of beautiful Copano Bay on Lamar Peninsula. We are just across the Copano causeway from Rockport and Fulton on highway 35. The drive to town takes about 13 minutes. By boat you are just a mile or so by water from famed Turtle Pen Point.
The water is 3-4 feet deep at our pier's end, perfect for bay fishing, and boating - but no diving in! Copano bay is perfect for fishing, but for swimming you have plenty of nearby beaches to choose from. The Gulf of Mexico is 45 minutes away on Mustang Island at Port Aransas, with Padre Island National Seashore a little further. Rockport has a shallow, calm sandy beach right in town and it's the state's only Blue Wave Beach. It's perfect for smaller children since there is no current or surf.

Birds on the Bay is on beautiful Copano Bay. The water is 3-4 feet deep at our pier's end, perfect for bay fishing and boating - but no diving in! Copano bay is fantastic for fishing for redfish, trout and flounder, but for swimming you have plenty of nearby beaches to choose from.
Annual events within the Rockport/Fulton area include: Fulton Oysterfest, Rockport Art Festival, Fiesta en La Playa, Hummingbird Celebration, Rockport Seafair, and Christmas Celebration or Lights. Copano Bay is a nursery bay, and is permanently closed to shrimp boats throughout the year. As a result, the water is clearer, the fish more plentiful, and the fishing can be fantastic! If you don't catch your own, you can drive into town, over to Aransas Pass or down to Corpus Christi for some of the freshest seafood around.
You can catch your own dinner here - redfish, trout, flounder as well as shrimp and blue crab can be found right off the pier. Or, you can drive into Rockport, Fulton, Aransas Pass or even Corpus Christi for the freshest seafood around. Try the harbor in Fulton first, there's nothing like buying your shrimp right off the boat!

Great Get Away
June 8, 2015
My husband I just returned from 5 wonderful days in Rockport at Redfish Retreat. We celebrated our 45th anniversary by shopping, eating out, and loving every minute spent in this home. Nights were great fishing, beginning about 9:30pm..lots of nice sized specks were caught. The pier is large, lights and underwater light and right off the back breezeway. The home is welcoming, comfortable, and clean. This was our 2nd time at Redfish and surely won't be our last.

I just finished a 3 day stay here and was terrific! The weather was perfect the first two days then got a tad windy. Fishing on the private pier was very active. I had a great time. Also some great photo ops with beautiful sunsets and many, many hummingbirds.
The Best Time Ever!
June 21, 2013
My husband and I spent four wonderful days at Redfish Retreat. The house was immaculate and very comfortable. We had great time fishing off the pier and enjoyed watching the wildlife...especially the dolphins! Sunsets were my favorite. The only thing wrong with our trip was....it was way too short. Looking forward to planning a return trip!
A Much needed "Time Out!"
May 27, 2013
Our stay at the Redfish Retreat was everything we hoped it would be ---and then some. My husband and I had been traveling extensively for the past several months and we could hardly wait for a "time out!" when we could do what whatever we wanted -- or nothing at all and the Redfish Retreat gave us all of that and then some. The facility was beyond our expectations. We had stayed at similar vacation rentals and we were expecting only the bare minimum. Instead, we got much, much more! The place was spotless! We never saw even one critter in the house--unusual in the damp humid areas of the Texas Gulf Coast. Bugs are just a part of the environment and you learn quickly they can penetrate even the most meticulous homes. The kitchen was stocked as well as my own; pots, pans, baking sheets and even muffin tins and measuring cups! Kitchen and bath linens were abundant - although some of them are in need of retirement. Sheets were of great quality--soft and thick. The mattresses in both the master and the guest rooms were very comfortable--no rolling toward the center or off the edge-and they both had covers on them of substantial quality. There is even a washer and dryer with soap! Seating in the living room was very comfortable leather sofas (not cloth!) with recliners on the ends. Outside, everything is just as clean! The BBQ pit was clean and already had charcoal in it--waiting for your catch! The fish cleaning stations were spotless!-- no remnants of scales or bait. We watched our first sunset that afternoon on the beautiful pier and felt our tensions blow away with breezes from the bay. One day, we lost water pressure and I had to call the manager. She quickly returned my call and reminded me of the list of emergency numbers to call for the city services clearly posted on the wall in the kitchen. As it happened, the city was repairing a water leak in the area and had turned off the water for a short time. It was good to know that when I needed to contact the manager, she answered our call right away! Another relaxing benefit about the location is that it is QUIET and neighbors (or other renters) or equally mindful about keeping the noise down to a reasonable level ( after all it is a vacation spot!) with only occasional squeals from a youngster catching his fist fish--how fun :) My husband and I enjoyed our stay so much we both became a bit teary as we looked over the bay and shared one last kiss from our deck. Checking the calendar now for our next visit!

Lots of beautiful sunsets. Fishing was pretty good. We had a cold front move in but still managed to enjoy ourselves. Caught a whopper...(of a cold) but some keeper's too. Had to go back home early but will come back.

We went here for our family trip this year. The house was great and having the lighted pier was wonderful. I got some great pictures of sunsets from the upper deck of the house and from the pier. My husband thoroughly enjoyed fishing from the pier well into the night. We will hopefully be able to plan other vacations at Redfish Retreat.

Best Vacation Ever
October 22, 2011
We stayed at Crab Daddy's. I cannot remember a vacation when I did not want to go home. The cabin was perfect, the fishing was great, our daughter and son in law came down and we all believe we found a place where God put his Hand. I have been to one of the best resorts in Kaui and did not feel the same connection as I did at Crab Daddys. We want to come back soon and bring our Grandsons, they are in college and we emailed them pictures of each fish we caught. They were ready to take time off and come down too. Our vacation experience was so wonderful we are all still talking about how soon we can get back down there. Thank You so much for a vacation time we will never forget and will repeat. "Home Away From Home"
April 11, 2011
Over the (early) years, we have stayed many places on the Texas Gulf Coast, but none have given us the feel of "home away from home" as Birds on the Bay...that is why we have been staying in the Carson's family vacation homes now for over 20 yrs. Birds on the Bay has all the amenities you could want, plus the fact it is situated in the lovely & quiet community of Holiday Beach, on the pristine Copano Bay. Photo opportunities are endless with its beautiful sunsets as well as the variety of birds...and for those of you, like us, who enjoy a good thunderstorm now & again, the show over the bay can be spectacular! And the fishing...some of the very best the gulf has to offer ...from the private pier right at your back door!! We have, on several occasions, "limited-out" on consecutive days. With town of Rockport/Fulton literally just a couple minutes away, you have everything you need...public boat ramps, bait stands, shops galore, & an eclectic variety of restaurants (not to mention the movie theater that runs current movies & still has free popcorn/bring your own bowl every Tuesday). AND the fact that not only is the home well maintained, very clean, & quite lovely, Tami & Jim are two of the nicest "hosts" you'll ever deal with, making the experience even that much better.
