Description of the Sea Ranch vacation home rental
Imagine stepping from the cool night air into the warm bubbles of your private hot tub. A glass of local wine or a mug of craft beer (you pick!) sits beside you – a tasty memoir of your recent jaunt through Sonoma wine country. As you relax into the soothing water, you glance up at the inky sky, where an eruption of constellations twinkles back at you. It's paradise.

Welcome to an oceanfront retreat perched atop a scenic bluff. Welcome to a place where whales breech in the bay, deer graze under your window, and seals sun themselves on rocks – to a cozy retreat just a short drive from the gastronomic delights of Mendonoma (Sonoma/Mendocino) and the bustle of San Francisco. Welcome to your dog-friendly home-away-from home in lovely Sea Ranch, California. Welcome to Abalone Bay.

Abalone Bay is both elegant and inviting, seamlessly blending unparalleled ocean views and fine finishes with the comforts of home. Step into our home, and you'll feel instantly at peace as picture windows invite the outside in. Classic redwood beams meets vaulted ceilings, a gourmet kitchen beckons, Adirondack chairs await on the ocean view terrace, and a private courtyard offers direct access to picturesque bluff trails. We recently updated with new furniture, fine linens, and fresh paint.

Our home is perfect for:

*Honeymoons & Anniversaries: If romance is on your mind, there's no better place than Abalone Bay and the scenic Pacific coastline to relax, unwind and connect with your loved one.
*Dog Owners: We don't just accept your four-legged travelers, we welcome them! Our home is fully dog-friendly, offering an enclosed courtyard, food and water bowels, dog-friendly walking trails and bluffs (leash-only) throughout the Sea Ranch community.
*Wine Connoisseurs: Sonoma and Mendocino wineries, as well as Sonoma's craft beer breweries, are just a short drive from Abalone Bay. And if you're an organic foodie, you'll love our local markets and our gourmet kitchen!
*Weekend Retreats: Plan a girl's weekend or gentlemen's gathering. We're perfect for mature and mellow groups, including golfers, trekkers, and mountain bikers. And abalone divers, we're diver-friendly – just a short walk to Shelter Cover (easy staircase access), and not only do we have a wetsuit drying rack but an abalone cleaning station, too!
*Families & Weddings: Celebrating a wedding or family reunion? Our home is a convenient and quiet resting spot, and can accommodate up to 6 guests.
*Nature Lovers: If you're seeking a quiet retreat or just need to get away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, Abalone Bay is surrounded by open sky, scenic panoramas, and the crashing surf of the Pacific Ocean.

We are enamored of Abalone Bay, Sea Ranch and northern California – and our guests are, too! There's so much to enjoy in our home and community, and here are a few of the highlights:

What You'll Love:

*Ocean Views: Almost every room has spectacular views of the Pacific. The master bedroom has direct access to the kitchen, perfect for early morning coffee.
* Master Bedroom has direct access to kitchen for early morning coffee.
*Classic California: Abalone Bay is pure, classic California sea home: vaulted ceilings, redwood beaming, skylights, picture windows, and a stone fireplace, all perched atop a scenic ocean bluff.
*Recently Updated: We recently updated Abalone Bay's décor and landscaping, for a sleek and stylish new look.
*Nature Escape: We're just minutes from restaurants, markets and other amenities, but Abalone Bay is a secluded, quiet world of its own.
*Eco-friendly Community: Sea Ranch recently celebrated 50 years as an eco-community of true nature lovers. We strive for low impact and small footprint, in homes that harmonize with the breathtaking natural landscape. At Sea Ranch, there are no streetlights or sidewalks. All house lighting is directed downward, so the night sky is clear and the stars bright. Natural landscaping takes the place of flowerbeds. Sea Ranch is so natural, you can barely make out our community from the road or the water.
*Environmental Commitment: We have installed low-energy appliances and low-flow toilets, and use native plants in all our landscaping.

One of our favorite things about Abalone Bay is the quiet and seclusion that surround our home – you can curl up with a good book or play a board game, with only the crashing waves as your soundtrack. You'll also love relaxing in our hot tub, kicking back on our oceanview Adirondack chairs, watching the sunset, counting the constellations, and walking Sea Ranch's bluff trails. But if you're itching to get out and explore, we have quite a few recommendations.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do:

Area Information
Visit our "California's Mendonoma Coast: A Vacation Insider's Guide" to learn our favorites found in the area. You may find it in our wedsite's Activities Page.

Located in Sonoma County near the Mendocino County line (or Mendonoma as we like to call it), The Sea Ranch is California's favorite coastal haven. This 10- mile unincorporated region is ringed by towering redwood trees, boasts dramatic ocean views, great hiking, superb diving, and wonderful opportunities to simply unwind from stress. Sea Ranch is located along the Pacific Coast, about 100 mi (160 km) north of San Francisco and 120 mi (190 km) west of Sacramento. Sea Ranch is reached by way of State Route 1.

About 4 mi (6 km) northwest of Sea Ranch is Gualala, California, a small town which supports and is in turn supported by Sea Ranch.

While staying at Abalone Bay in The Sea Ranch you may enjoy a variety of activities available to you right here in The Sea Ranch community. We have over 40 miles of trails (includes 8 miles right along the coastal bluff that passes in front of Abalone Bay). There are also three recreation centers available for swimming, tennis and other indoor and outdoor activities. Bike rental within the grounds is also available.

Sea Ranch trail maps and guide booklets are available for purchase through The Sea Ranch Association Office. These items include information on home locations, streets, beach and bluff access, trails, parking areas, etc. The guide booklets contain information about wildlife, marine life, trails/walks, wildflowers and the history and development of The Sea Ranch.

Outside of Sea Ranch visit the art centers, wineries, and many state parks. Kayaking, rock climbing, diving and fishing is available for sports enthusiasts. For the nature lover watch whales spout , deer graze in the morning, bobcats, wild turkeys, and other wildlife as the pass directly in front of Abalone Bay Oceanfront Sea Ranch Vacation Rental.

Abalone Bay

January 5, 2015

The house was in a great location, had a wonderful view, and was immaculate. It was very relaxing, and had all the amenities to make our stay comfortable and memorable, including a special dog blanket and welcoming kit. The beds were comfortable with nice 1,000 pt. linens, and towels were provided for the hot tub. There were even towels for dirty doggie paws. There was also a nice little fenced in yard. Directly across from the home is a marine preserve where Harbor Seals can be observed. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and pots and pans, etc. They even provided special Christmas decorations and plates for our stay! It was a very "homey" feeling. Also provided are a washer and dryer, which really came in handy due to the rainy weather. We saw whales off in the distance with the nice binoculars and tripod provided. We will definitely return for another vacation!

Great Stay at Abalone Bay!

August 22, 2014

Since I have back problems, my first priority for a great vacation home includes comfortable beds and pillows, and a private Master bath. On the ocean, I want great water & sunset views, and nearby walking trails. In the kitchen, I hope for a french press for me and a coffee pot for hubby, and a nice variety of cookware. Since I was traveling with family, I also hoped for a large dining table, and nice outdoor space with a bbq. The icing on the cake is a dog-friendly home and area...Abalone Bay has all of these! Highly recommended! We will return!

Great family retreat

We so enjoyed the comfort of this home and its accessibility to the marine preserve and various beaches. We could walk to the pool and to the lodge (both pleasant hikes.) The view of the ocean from the living room is amazing, and we took advantage of the games and hot tub for lots of fun. The kitchen was very well stocked with pans and appliances, and the BBQ worked very well.

We stayed at Abalone Bay looking for a quite weekend away from the city and I got more than I asked for! The view looked like something off a postcard. The beds were 5 star, the kitchen had every appliance I could dream up and .... I still can't say enough about the view. I spent the weekend diving with friends and the house lived up to its name. The house lived up to its name, we I caught my limits each day and spent the evenings watching the sunset over the ocean from the privacy of the Jacuzzi. The only negative is rental seams to be very popular and books up well in advance. But my family and I will be making this paradise a regular retreat.
