Best Family Vacation Ever!!
October 21, 2014
Our family met in Seattle for my daughters Wedding, some from Texas, some from California. Can't say enough about this lovely home, exceeded our expectations. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook, beds were comfortable and the children enjoyed reading the books on the shelves. We watched TV on the couch, sat at the spacious kitchen table and visited. We hosted a family dinner before the Wedding and everyone had a wonderful time!! Didn't get to spend much time on the patio as it was raining but we enjoyed just walking around looking at the property, so quiet and peaceful. One day my sons family walked to town and back, they came back laughing and happy. Every place we wanted to visit was within a few miles. Perfect home for us, best vacation ever since we could all spend time together. We will have wonderful memories of our visit, and the perfect place to stay.

Our stay at Seattle Urban Retreat was wonderful! The house is amazing. It is very peaceful and beautiful inside and out. We were there with our kids and even they were impressed. Pretty good for teenagers! The neighborhood is so quiet and very easy access to so many places. I can't wait to come back!

Lovely, well equipped house in Seattle
August 14, 2013
We rented the Seattle Urban Retreat as a staging area for our daughter's wedding. Two families shared the house (6 people) for four nights and others came in the evenings to socialize. We had plenty of space to work on wedding preparations including practicing dance moves. The house is centrally located with easy bus access to downtown and walking distance to nearby restaurants. The Arboretum and Japanese garden are across the street. We really appreciated how well equipped the house is. We barbecued salmon on the gas grill for 13 people and all sat out on the deck. There were plenty of serving dishes, utensils, tools and plates for everyone. The only drawback is that it is not very accessible for handicapped people. There are steps down from the carport to the front door and then steps up or down to the bedrooms. We would definitely recommend it to others and stay there again ourselves in the future.
Thank you for your lovely review, Phyllis! And please do come back! My husband and I got married in the arboretum, across the street, by the gazebo, and it pleases me no end when folks rent the house to use as a staging area for a wedding! (I probably would love this even if we hadn't gotten married so close to home!)
Our Seattle Vacation
July 24, 2013
Four of us spent the better part of a week in Seattle visiting our son who has a small apartment. Staying here turned out to be perfect for our situation and so much better (and cheaper) than a few hotel rooms for the week. First, the house has a central location, close to the Arboretum and in one of those neighborhoods in Seattle with amazing homes; it is tucked away but close to everything (and, luckily, my son's place). The open first floor is great for getting together with a kitchen that is fully equipped and stocked, an ample dining room table and living room with a dramatic ceiling and huge window. The first floor includes a large deck with a grill. Both got a lot of use as we ate there a number of nights, sipped wine and chatted together in the afternoon or just sat and read. (it was vacation!) We were able to come back together after our activities of the day, meet our son and his girlfriend and relax with plenty of room and a good measure of privacy. Then there was room for everyone to have their own space with bedrooms and bathrooms both upstairs and down. The house could easily sleep six adults or four adults and four kids who could share the large space downstairs where there are two beds, and there is still a separate space for the available Pack & Play. The house is fully and very nicely furnished throughout. Laura, the owner, was very easy to work with and flexible in meeting our needs. My only reservation about giving this experience the rave review it deserves is that it might not be available the next time we visit our son. It has all the comforts of home, if your home is a dramatic, open house built on a hillside in a great neighborhood in Seattle with multiple decks, an arbor sitting area, large well-equipped kitchen, fireplace and piano.

Seattle Urban Retreat is exactly that

After 4 nights at the Edgewater Hotel and experiencing all the sights every tourist goes to Seattle to see I wanted a peaceful and cozy Seattle home to relax in and spend the remainder of our trip in this beautiful city. The location was ideal - we bought salmon , scallops & tuna from the Pikes Place Market and were in the kitchen preparing dinner within 20 minutes! The house itself is hidden by huge trees so theres natural beauty outside every window- the huge deck outside the dining area was my favorite spot for morning coffee. The 3 floors gave everyone their own private space and the open floor plan of the kitchen, dining & living room was very comfortable. The murphy bed was surprisingly comfortable , ROKU was great & the kitchen had everything we needed. The location of this home was perfect! The Madison neighborhood is full of classic stately homes with chic shops & restaurants within walking distance. Also just a short drive away is the eclectic Fremont neighborhood. We had a great stay and highly recommend Seattle Urban Retreat.

Very unique rental in a great location in Seattle. The rental was spacious, comfortable and we especially liked the open floor plan on the main floor with a great deck. The windows provided a lot of natural light and views of the trees and when in the house, you'd never realize you were in the City. The kitchen was well equipped, including plenty of plates, silverware and glasses to entertain our local family; and loved the eco-consciousness of composting, recycling and green products. We could easily walk to restaurants, parks, coffee shops and Lake Washington and the Bus to downtown Seattle. Laura offered great tips about the City and we definitely would rent again and have already referred this Urban Retreat to our friends.
Beautiful property in the perfect location

Clean, comfortable, quiet home located in Madison Park area of Seattle. We used the bus system to get downtown without parking hassles. Madison Park neighborhood has its own gems. Would recommend this home to anyone wanting a central "base" for their Seattle getaway.

Our two generational family of six thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay. The house is comfortable, well equipped and ideally located to seeing the Seattle area. It is conveniently located to Univ of Washington, great restaurants, stores and downtown . There's a nice deck for relaxing after a full day of sightseeing. Recommended.

The owner's description of this home is accurately rendered. The house and its location realized perfectly our hope for a distinctly Northwest feel in an urban setting for a gathering of friends from afar. As has been noted elsewhere the layout of the kitchen and adjacent open spaces were exquisitely conducive to the camaraderie that we sought and contributed to a very memorable vacation. The home was clean, well kept and stocked with every amenity we could possibly require. The owners were conscientious and a pleasure to deal with. A commercial lodging establishment could never have afforded the delightful, nuance-rich experience we enjoyed. We had a great time there and will certainly reprise the experience when circumstances permit.

Seattle Retreat& Oasis
September 14, 2011
We have to let you know how pivotal staying in your home was to a wonderful vacation. It felt like we were staying in the home of a long time friend. The open kitchen was marvelous for preparing meals, while conversation flowed inside and out onto the great deck area. The location is great to start out from; into downtown or out to the surrounding area's to explore. At night we enjoyed your great deck and talked over the day and made plans for the following day's excursions. We loved everything about your Seattle Retreat and Oasis. Thank you for allowing us the use of your home. Warm Regards Gary&Barbara Stone

Super Seattle Stay
July 28, 2011
Great house, comfortably equipped with an excellent location near Madison Park. We were back in Seattle for a family wedding and found this great all around. It's close to stores, coffee and the excellent arboretum, but nestled quietly in the trees. Everything we needed was here, with enough dishes and wine glasses to invite over family members for dinners for eight or so on the beautiful deck. Sleeping facilities are on the bottom and top of three floors for privacy. We'd book again.

Our stay at the Seattle Urban Retreat
July 12, 2011
We spent a week at this lovely home over the 4th of July. Because of the size of the home, we were able to have family stay and plenty of room for visitors to come over. We walked to Lake Washington (10 blocks away) and spent a lovely afternoon there. Everything you would need was provided at the home and stores, resturants, shops & even a garden center were close by. Linda Murphy

Seattle Urban Retreat Review

The location was very peaceful and quiet. The kitchen was great. It even had an expresso maker so we were able to steam our own milk! TV room area was wonderful to rent a movie and spend a night in with family.
Even more special than it appears

This is a beautiful house, airy, open, relaxed in feel, artistically designed, and centrally located in a gorgeous neighborhood. The house is filled with conveniences, fully stocked kitchen, is up-to-date, with wonderful decks, a gazebo, a piano, and all modern electronics. We loved it so much! The owner, Laura, bends over backwards to be accommodating. We use VRBO frequently, and this one ranks near the top of places we have stayed. When we return to Seattle, this is where we will stay.

This house is perfect if you want to combine the convenient access to downtown Seattle with the comfortable, more relaxed feel of the Madison Park community. The major attractions of Seattle are easily within reach of this home - you can easily catch the bus for a quick ride to the Downtown area. Alternatively, walk a half mile in the opposite direction and enjoy the nice shops and restaurants in Madison Park or the beautiful views of Lake Washington. With three young daughters, we spent alot of time on the fantastic Madison Park playground. The Arboretum is within a short walk of the house as well. The house itself is very spacious with an open floor plan and three levels. The outdoor decks were fantastic. The home has all of the essentials. The owners were easy to work with and timely in reponding to questions.
Best rental ever

Staying at this wonderful home was like staying with good friends, only better. All the amenities to a fine home and more were available. With two teenagers in tow we all had enough space. The location was fabulous with a quick drive to downtown and to I-5 for day trips. Very private and beautiful.

Great Property, Wonderful Owners
July 29, 2010
Location, Location, Location. Wow, What a great house in the best part of Seattle. We stayed for two weeks with two full families, and really enjoyed this property. This is truly a Urban Retreat, and is as represented by the ad. Our kids loved the nearby park, we loved the shops, and it is very central to about everything. A+ property, we are doing this trip again.
Great home away...
June 29, 2010
We spent 8 days, combined work and pleasure. Great location, easy to get to virtually anywhere. Close proximity to the Arboretum, great place for an evening stroll, run, bike, etc. House was very accommodating, well appointed but very relaxed and comfortable. Great deck, surrounded trees for a little privacy. We already have recommended to friends.

We would strongly recommend this property. It is in a superb location - in a peaceful area close to parks and Lake Washington but close enough for the short and frequent bus service into Seattle itself. The facilities in the house are first class with plenty of space and facilities, equipment and /kitchen/bath/ shower facilities which were all in an excellent condition(there was 6 people in our party). We especially appreciated the lovely decking areas and barbeque. A really nice touch was the detailed local information provided by the owners. In addition the owners were excellent with all aspects relating to confirmation of booking and payment process. We would love to stay there again. The Large and Leigh families from the UK

FANTASTIC Home away from home
September 14, 2008
EVERYTHING about this home is PERFECT! We absolutely enjoyed our entire time there and had a "hard time" leaving, our entire group wanted to stay longer. The owners are super great people and you can "feel" what wonderful people they are simply by spending time in their home. I would recommend this "home away from home" to ALL! ENJOY! (=
Our Private Tree House
August 28, 2008
This is a wonderful and interesting home with lots of light and open spaces and no boring square rooms. We loved it. Staying there was like having our own private tree house. We really enjoyed walking to the Japanese garden and local shops. It is close in to downtown Seattle and near to everything we needed to do. The owners are very nice people too.
Here's a paste from an email we received following a one-week stay at our Seattle Urban Retreat this July, 2008:
We greatly enjoyed our stay - if I was to stay/live in Seattle then Madison would be preferred location.
1) Location - best of all worlds - easy to get to downtown, Arboretum on the doorstep and short walk to lakeside beach, easy travel to Bellevue/Redmond busines parks
2) Sitting on the deck with its view through the trees - as you state it is truly an urban retreat.
3) Felt like a home - very well equipped, - great wooden floors
