Reviews for this vacation home rental in Winter Harbor, Maine
Forest Road house in Winter Harbor, a good find
July 2, 2014
This was a very pleasant stay in a quiet spot at the end of a short street with deep woods backing up the yard. Short walk to shops, a bit longer to the ferry/bus. The two bedrooms and bathroom are up some rather steep upstairs, but my wife had no trouble climbing them despite usually having difficulty with stairs. There is a very nice deck in back overlooking the yard and woods. A large second living room in the back has a sliding door to the deck. There are several tvs throughout the house, and the internet worked well. The large tv in the front living room is a bit tricky because "system off" on the remote must be used to turn it off; otherwise you might have to reset the system. We think the large tv should be in the larger living room at the back of the house. The sofas in the front living room are a bit soft (for us). The double beds were firm and adequately comfortable. The large yard was great for our two dogs, which the owners accepted free of charge. The kitchen, dining area, and facilities were very satisfactory. The hot water in the shower could get very hot very quickly, but it took some fidgeting to get the right temperature. Next door to the property, a house is being built--just the cement foundation was in place in June, but construction could begin any time. We had very friendly conversations with locals throughout town. There's a very nice mile-long walk down Grindstone Road to the water, passing through the golf course and by various "cottages." In July and August, the bus meets the ferry and circles through Schoodic Peninsula for free. We love visiting this town, and this residence was a good find.
Affordable, spacious and well kept

Bob and Rayma Kimball have a cute and cozy, yet spacious cottage just about 40 minutes from Bar Harbor. The rooms were clean, the kitchen well stocked with everything you need to cook a decent meal and feed a family of 4+.

Cozy, close to town

We have rented this home twice and have been very pleased with it once we are there. The house meets all our needs. It is at the end of a quiet road, yet a few minutes walk to town.. It comes with everything one would need for a great vacation from washer/dryer to lobster pot. The only downside is the owner who takes a long time to respond to emails.

The house had ample room for six adults and was located in a small town near Acadia National Park. The property was well kept and there was much to do around the area including antique stores, small shops and restaurants. Overall staying at the Winter Harbor house was an excellent experience.

Loved it all

This cozy, well-kept and well-equipped cottage is perfectly set not too close and not too far from town (interesting people, interesting sights) and small bay inlets (interesting sights, no people). It sits at the end of a small street, backing into an enormous woods---an added plus not mentioned in the material. The area may be its greatest advantage. There is so much beauty and so much too explored that, like one earlier reviewer, I hesitate to share this secret with the world. My friends and I are already dreaming of a return next year.

This was the second time we have rented this place and it was even better than we remembered. Didn't have to bring a thing, good grocery store in town, lobster fresh off the boats, a 2 week long art festival going on at the Town Center with a different featured event each evening. But most enjoyable for me was the opportunity for nature---biking, hiking, took the local Ferry to Bar Harbor for the afternoon and saw seals, dolphin, Osprey with young in the nest. You could go out and meet and mingle with nice people from all over or sit on the porch and read a book. To be honest, I want to keep this place a secret!

We chose Maine for our 50th anniversary because it has always been our favorite places. The house we rented in Winter Harbor was one of the nicest places we have stayed so far and there has been plenty. It was clean and very well kept and we would go back.
