Reviews for this vacation cabin rental in Woodstock, New York
New York, New York
August 27, 2015
Great long weekend getaway. The house is cozy and clean and the view and sound of the creek in the back make it peaceful. We spend most of our days at a local water hole where we could swim along with our fun loving dog and stayed in and cooked meals in the evening. We enjoyed a visit to Woodstock for an afternoon which is only 10 minutes away by car. If you love to bring your dog with you on vacation then this is a great place to come.
Such a beautiful getaway.

Since before making it to the cabin the owner Jon was super friendly, he answered all of our questions promptly and facilitated our stay with multiple choices of near by attractions and things to do around the property, also the cabin exceeded our expectations and we had an amazing time !

Comfortable family cottage, well supplied and nicely laid out with different areas to relax. Amazing woods and wildlife just there and close to Woodstock (no parking problems ever!) and local hikes plus excellent local riding school with kids camp!

Great family getaway
July 6, 2015
We just came back from a long weekend in the cabin over the 4th of July holiday. The cabin was very clean, cozy and a good mix of rustic and modern. Our restless 2.5 year old toddler had a great time playing at the creek, picking sticks and stones, and chasing butterflies. Our 6 month old baby was very excited just watching her brother run around and also took quite an interest in the artwork around the house. It was great to have such privacy and enjoy nature at the same time have the option of tv and good wifi. We managed to get skype calls from relatives from different parts of the world who got to admire the cabin as well. We enjoyed going to the town, both Woodstock and Saugerties, and enjoyed Garden Cafe and Oriole 9. Trekked to the Freeman Falls and got to see the parade at Saugerties. We felt we had really full days and enjoyed coming back to cabin for dinner at the screened porch while my son built a fire each night with his papa. The owners were very responsive throughout and heartfelt thanks to them for letting us have family memories at a special place. We hope to come back in the very near future.
Just what we were looking for …

We could have gone anywhere for our 30th wedding anniversary but we decided that all we really needed was to be alone – to be able to enjoy each other’s company. You never know what you’re actually going to get but we really lucked out here. This place was exactly what we wanted. Nice and quiet. The property is secluded but close to town – but not walking distance. If you look closely at the pictures you’ll notice that the cabin has two parts – old and new where the front door acts as a transition in the middle. So one bedroom, eating area, kitchen and screened in porch are from the original cabin – very rustic and the other half – another bedroom, bath and living room (including a fireplace) are all recently redone. The combination of the old and new makes it very charming. We hiked Overlook Mountain which was close by. A fairly easy hike with a fire tower and the remains of an old hotel. Very interesting. We didn’t spend much time in Woodstock. Parking there is challenging. Didn’t realize that hippies still existed - ;). Catskill Mountain Pizza was awesome but cash only. They sell growlers of Lagunitas btw – other than that, I do not think you can get good beer in town. The West Hurley Market has the best beer (IPA’s) selection I’ve ever seen in a grocery store. It was one of our requirements that we be able to bring our dog. If you’re pet less and concerned about a place that is “pet friendly” – no worries because it was immaculate. Everything you might reasonably need is there. The DVD is not Blu-ray and I’m not sure we connected to the internet or whether it was just slow – but we really didn’t care – we ended up watching the cooking channel and loved it – never would do that at home. Thank you for sharing this family gem.

A Special Place
April 14, 2015
Let us join the chorus and reiterate that this is a very special place. The setting is beautiful (stream, forest, rock outcroppings), peaceful, and private. The location is great, less than 5 minutes from one of the best restaurants in the area and just a couple of more to downtown Woodstock. The cottage was wonderful: rustic but comfortable, with all of the basic modern amenities including a fully functional kitchen. We had an absolutely delightful weekend there. But beyond these physical features was the wonderful ambience (vibes, if you will) within the cottage. This has been in the family for a long time and obviously holds a lot of history, meaning, and fond memories for them. We felt fortunate to be able stay there and are very much looking forward to a return visit this fall. (I should also say that Jon has been a pleasure to work with in making these arrangements).
AWAY FROM IT ALL!

As we approached the cottage, I was so thrilled to see how secluded and lovely the cottage was. It only gets better! Inside the cottage is just lovely! Spacious rooms and a great kitchen to cook in. If you're looking for tranquility, look no further.

We absolutely loved this cottage. Unfortunately we were unable to rent it for our annual sisters trip this year. The place was utterly lovely. We hope it is available next year.

The building is amazing and has a fascinating history. The owners thought of everything, and everything we forgot was right there when we needed it. Fireplace is beautiful, the land is jaw - droppingly beautiful: hemlock woods, trickling streams, and bluestone ledges everywhere.

Where do I begin? This was perfect for my family and two dogs to get away. We truly fell in love with woodstock and Jon's home. He was so nice and the communication was great! The pictures don't give the home the justice it deserves because it was so adorable. Half of the home was a cabin and the other half felt modern. The art around the home was enchanting and it was the perfect place for me to catch up on some drawing myself. I can't say one bad thing about our experience. It was lovely we made camp fires let the dogs run around, we rode our bikes along the roads and hiked up Over Look. Everything in the home was perfect and don't want to tell anyone about how wonderful it was because I don't want all the dates to be booked. (but I will)...Thanks so much for opening your doors to our family and will be booking in the near future!

We had a wonderful week at this location. The setting was marvelous. There are beautiful woods surrounding the residence. There is a creek less than fifty feet from the front door that was great to sit by and relax. The birdlife was also fun to observe. The cottage itself was very comfortable. It has all the creature comforts but is also slightly rustic in a good way. There are plenty of windows so we felt surrounded by nature. The kitchen was sizeable, had all the promised appliances, and was fun to cook in. The screened porch allowed us to breathe the fresh air but still be sheltered. We lit a campfire in the fire pit provided which added to the enjoyment of our stay. The cottage is close enough to places to visit, including the town of Woodstock, but secluded enough to feel like we had enough privacy. The hiking nearby was great; Opus 40 Sculpture Gardens, restaurants, Buddhist monastery and other places were easily accessible. Also, we found communicating with the owner to be very efficient. We highly recommend this cottage.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at your cabin. It is so cozy and beautiful we wanted to stay for the whole week! It was the perfect place for us to cook, eat and just chill out. We even watched a little TV - nice to have the sattelite there! The place itself is beautiful, the artwork and all the little sculptures and cool figures were so charming. The property can't be beat! We loved all the wildlife (lots of baby chipmunks that my friend from Ethiopia fell in love with) and were blissed out down by the stream. I stayed in the pretty bedroom that felt like a quaint country Inn and he stayed in the sleeping nook with the amazing woodland views and red curtains that created such a dreamy environment. The screened in porch was terrific. We will tell everyone we know about the place and will definitely be back if in the area again.
It's so nice to hear that you enjoyed chilling out at our cabin. It is such a great place to get out of the hustle and bustle!
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed my grandfather's art! We love showing it and feel that it helps make our place a home.
We also enjoy just being able to see so many stars in the night sky.
Thanks for your lovely review.

Paradise with a view

We just left the house less than a week ago and I cannot stop thinking about it...I can't wait to go back! Aside from the very clean and comfortable accommodations, the trees and nature around the house are what make it so special. It is very private, but very close to the heart of Woodstock, so you have the best of both worlds. If you love nature, this is a lovely place to stay. The cabin has a very peaceful calming vibe. On a practical note, my security deposit was returned within 2 days of my departure (and that is not always the case with other houses I've rented).

A retreat to unwind and relax
August 22, 2013
This was the first time I ever rented a property. Jon made it so easy. The house is as described and even better. It is clean and well equipped. The setting is secluded, peaceful and beautiful, yet 3 miles into Woodstock. Jon was so helpful as was his sister with recommendations for things to do in the area and places to eat. We are already talking about renting the cottage again. We just loved everything about it. Robert & Debbie

This charming cottage escape was just what we needed! The sound of the stream and little waterfalls, the artistic touched in the cottage, warm and comfortable! Our host was very nice. The cottage was clean and well-appointed. We even had our two dogs with us, which we really appreciated. We'd go back in a minute! Close to "downtown" Woodstock, but far enough away to to escape.
Charming and quiet place to stay
May 23, 2013
We had a great 2 night stay in the Artist Cottage. Having a full kitchen with all the things we needed to cook our meals was a huge bonus. The artwork is fun and made the whole place seem homey! I recommend this place for small families or 2 couples.

The owner was easy to work with and was quick to respond. The cabin was perfect for the two of us and our dog but could easily and comfortably fit another couple. The land was beautiful. We took short hikes on the property each morning with our coffee and dog. We also made a wood fire at night in the fire pit. The barbecue was in good working order and the kitchen had plenty of supplies for us. Owner was prompt to return my security deposit. Trully had a wonderful experience using the site and making the arrangements with the owner. Thank you again!

Perfect getaway from the city

Very clean and accomodating. I would definitely stay here again. We made a fire one night and it was cozy. We didn't see much wildlife by the cabin. We thought we would have being that it was nestled in the woods away from the street and other homes.

Cabin in the woods
October 25, 2011
I enjoyed my stay in this lovely, secluded artist's cabin in the woods. I had breakfast every morning near the rolling stream that flows through the property, listened to birds and saw wildlife in the woods (i.e. deer, chipmunks). The cabin was cozy and had all amenities needed. The owners were very helpful. I would recommend this spot to anyone wanting peace, quiet and wanting to commune with nature.

Warm & Welcoming
August 6, 2010
The cottage is warm and welcoming with all the comforts and necessities of home. The freshly cut flowers on the table were a special treat. The screened in porch is ideal for relaxing and communing with one another and nature. We enjoyed the seclusion of the property and the opportunity to view some wildlife right out the windows. The owners were very responsive and even lent us their membership pass for entry to the Opus 40. I will refer this cottage to family and friends.

Amazing little cottage!
October 12, 2009
We had a wonderful time in Woodstock. The one reason that we feel is most accountable for our good time was our accomodations. The cottage was wonderful. We spent as much time admiring the "Art Work" in the cottage as we did the surroundings of the property and other excursions. Whenever we return to Woodstock we will be sure to see if this cottage is still being rented.

More secluded, and beautiful than we imagined.
September 15, 2009
We spent an unforgettable week in this Woodstock cabin in Overlook Mountain. Spacious, scented with the cedar walls of part of the house, it has all the conveniences you could want and is only a few minutes from town down quiet country roads. We were sad to leave.
September 10, 2009
It's a cozy property with nice surroundings and the owner very friendly. I got what I was expecting.
We had a very romantic weekend at the cottage. Really enjoyed the private location and walking in the woods. Everything was very comfortable and we really enjoyed a big log fire each night. The art work in the cottage was lovely, so varied and interesting. Kitchen was well equipped and easy to use. Really enjoyed all the interesting sights in the village - spent way too much in all the stores! Would love to return for another weekend. Owners were very pleasant to work with - thanks!
