While Hurricane Earl threatens to soak, not dampen, East Coasters’ Labor Day plans, perhaps a Plan B is in order: a fall weekend getaway to Asheville vacation rentals.
What’s in Asheville?
A thriving arts community. In the colorful RiverArts District, just down the hill from the Asheville vacation home featured, you’ll find studios of more than 120 artists, from jewelers to glassblowers.
Picturesque mountains. Nothing stirs our fall fantasies like hiking one of the scenic trails along the Blue Ridge Mountains or being surrounded by rolling hills and statuesque trees dangling amber and gold leaves like giant chandelier earrings. It’s one beauty show that makes us look forward to swapping the bikinis for fall trench coats.
Distinguished architecture. The majestic Biltmore Estate isn’t the only example of awe-inspiring architecture, but it’s certainly the most recognizable. With 8,000 acres of manicured gardens, 250 rooms and 65 fireplaces, the French-style chateau transports guests into George Vanderbilt’s not-so-humble abode.
For lodging, a bounty of log cabins invites, along with unique properties like the HealthyBuilt home (click photo) that pump up Asheville’s hip factor. The tri-level, wood-heavy space is magazine-ready, funky and flooded with light. A slanted roof, track lighting throughout and a lower level studio with room for a couple make it 1,000 times more attractive than the Holiday Inn.

Where should we go with a party of six?" No stranger to travel--and traveling with kids--she is a young mom who ODs on the Internet when it comes to planning family trips or buying clothes. Here's hoping she finds you the vacation you deserve.
