3 Flares 3 Flares ×

American history, patriotism, and fine art that’s larger than life. Whatever your family is searching for in a 4th of July bash, one of the nation’s iconic landmarks, Mount Rushmore, is a great place to visit for this holiday. While you’re there, check out what South Dakota has to offer.

Where to stay:

This cabin in the Black Hills is perfect for your Independence Day getaway. You’ll have space for the whole family since this 3 bedroom can easily accommodate 9 guests. The home comes equipped with plenty of extras for enjoying the outdoors. Adult and child size golf clubs, fishing gear, maps, and tennis rackets are just some of the great toys available. The backyard backs up to a national forest filled with wildlife. You’ll be able to see deer and wild turkeys from the deck that over looks the forest. The mountain views are spectacular.

Know Before You Go:

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial depicts the heads of  four former US Presidents (in order from left to right) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The monument is over 1200 acres and sits at nearly 6,000 feet about sea level. The sculpture is currently undergoing a digital 3D imaging and historic preservation project. For the techies in your family, exploring the monument digitally is great fun.

Holiday Events:

Sunday July 3rd will be a host of  performances and ceremonies in the amphitheater including music from the US Air Force band and a B-1B flyover.  During the day, enjoy historians and tour guides giving you a glimpse into our nation’s past.

Extend Your Stay:

Other area attractions are just a short drive from this gorgeous cabin. The Badlands and the Crazy Horse Memorial are nearby. If you want to try spelunking, check out the plentiful caves and caverns in the area. The cabin has a stream running behind it as well as a game room. Spend a day or two just relaxing in with the family enjoying what the  vacation home itself has to offer.
