The winter holidays seem to have passed, but that’s because you’ve forgotten about the 3-day weekends coming up! We’re all so lucky to celebrate justice and democracy for Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January and President’s Day in February that we might as well take a mini-vacation. Solemn holidays invite us to remember history, so head one of the places Dr. King famously marched.
Head into the heart of the South to remember the Civil Rights Movement. Atlanta is rich in history and modern vacation attractions. This luxury highrise apartment is a great home base for your weekend getaway. You’ll have a view of famous Piedmont Park as well as a city lights view at night. The location really can’t be beat. You’ll be just a block or two from some of the city’s most fun eateries and night life. Head a few blocks south to the MLK Memorial and park as well as Dr. King’s birth home. The Memorial continues to be a rallying place for modern political activists as well, attracting artists, speakers, and students. This is sandwiched between the Edgewood and Sweet Auburn districts, historic neighborhoods that are now home to revitalized businesses. These are the cafes, markets, and businesses where history was made.
To appreciate the new history makers in Atlanta, grab a steak dinner at the famous Rathbun’s Restaurant just around the corner. Spend your second day marveling at modern art at The High Museum, just 3 blocks from your apartment. Atlanta has a great train system in the city, but you won’t have to use it. You’ll be in the center of the action. For more modern Atlanta fun, head to the aquarium to finish your trip. Relax in, under, over, and next to one of the world’s largest fish tanks before returning to your highrise palace.
