It’s Derby Time!

2 Flares 2 Flares ×

It’s the most exciting two minutes in sports, so dress up, drink up, and party in style. Here are the Top 4 Kentucky Derby Weekend tips for the ultimate race celebration.

#1 Location, Location, Location

You want to be where the action is plus have the space to enjoy it. Check out a vacation home rental in Louisville for the ultimate party locale. With sleeping quarters for 10 and 4000 square feet of living area, this Kentucky Derby Region home should be enough space for you and your pals to enjoy the race. Take the party outside and enjoy the 3000 square feet of deck and outdoor living space. And a view to boot!

#2 Get the Mint Julep Right

Early Times Kentucky Whiskey and Maker’s Mark Bourbon have both claimed to be the official spirit of the Kentucky Derby mint julep. Choosing the type of mint to muddle is the next crucial step in concocting the perfect cocktail.  While spearmint is the more traditional herb of choice, regular mint is more commonly used. Depending on your taste, the herb is either muddled with confectioner’s sugar for the most intense flavor, bruised then stirred into the cocktail for a mild infusion, or placed as a garnish for just a hint of mint.

#3 Dapper Duds

Churchill Downs is about high class, high society, and high stakes. Don’t look like a chump. If your wardrobe isn’t to code, check out the nearby shopping outlets. Louisville is home to some of Kentucky’s premier shopping centers. These shops are prepped for Derby Time with high fashion hats and accessories to help you look your best for the race for the roses. A short 8 mile trip is all you’ll have to make from your dapper derby vacation home.

#4 Have a Post-Race Plan
Fortunately, since you planned this weekend right, you have a golf course nearby. The driving range is a great place to drive away your woes if your horse didn’t win. For the lucky few who picked a winner, celebrate in your vacation home’s backyard. This luxurious rental home is in a gated golf course community. It’s just the extra bit of relaxation you need to round out your derby trip.

  1. I happened to find your blog when I was searching for vacation homes during popular events. I am looking at surprising my husband with a trip to the Masters next year for his birthday.

I have never been to the Kentucky Derby but it sounds like it would be lots of fun with a group of friends. I will have to put it on my bucket list!
