Bing Crosby may have been dreaming of a white Christmas, but how many of you snowbirds would rather be walking barefoot on a crescent beach?
As an East Coaster who spent five years in Tampa Bay, it was always peculiar to see palm trees dressed in lights and Santa–anywhere. But to thousands of native Floridians, whose skin surely shrivels at the thought of 40 degrees, there’s no place like home for the holidays.
A co-worker and native Sarasotan is bringing that piece of familiar to her Midwest in-laws this coming season. On their agenda: a Florida vacation rental for 10. Eschewing big gifts this year, they’ll be packing the essentials: a few pairs of jeans, shorts and bathing suits for a dip in the hot tub. (Because who likes to tote a bag full of presents now that the major carriers are charging extra fees for luggage?) Christmas will go the same: food, drinks and dessert with the family.
Now, the questions must be asked: How many of you are traveling to a tropical place for the holidays, and where are you going? Dish your favorite winter vacation spots with us on Twitter @checkincheckout.
