This week I chatted with Gary, a homeowner in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. This beach house, 54659, has an ocean view like no other. Take a look at what Gary had to say about his rental.
Where is your rental located?
Our oceanfront home sits on a secluded beach, called Nedonna Beach, in the town of Rockaway Beach on the northern third of Oregon’s ruggedly beautiful coastline.
What’s the history of the home?
We named our home “Aliyah” which is based upon a Hebrew word meaning to “go to” or “ascend” both geographically and metaphysically. We bought the house a few years ago from the original owners who built it in the ‘70s, and we completely renovated it and furnished it with an eclectic mix of comfortable new furniture and many antiques. It is a charming, light-filled three bedroom, two bathroom home with lots of windows and sliding doors facing the ocean. It can sleep ten people comfortably and we welcome pets.
There is so much to do at the house: taking walks on our wide, secluded beach, soaking in our hot-tub that sits on the sand overlooking the ocean, sitting on our covered deck watching the waves and the spectacular sunsets, and cooking in our inviting kitchen that faces out to the ocean. In the area there are many ocean-oriented temptations as well: you can buy fresh crab, fresh fish and delicious chowder at the jetties and the docks nearby, rent a kayak, canoe or motorboat, charter a deep sea fishing boat, etc. In addition, depending on the season, there are hiking trails, horseback riding in Nehalem State Park, varied restaurants, antique stores, even bingo at the Lions Club!
We actually had a ball driving a giant U-haul all around Oregon buying an eclectic mix of classy, comfortable furniture, antiques and a few distinctive pieces to furnish our beach house. The results are aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and homey.
It has to be the combo of the kitchen and dining room. They both face the ocean and they actually beckon you to cook and eat-in while enjoying the spectacular views.
What do you hope your renters get from a week at Aliyah?
A complete break from the grind of everyday life. Soak in the natural, rugged beauty. Relax and enjoy. In short, we hope they love spending time there as much as we do.
Isn’t that view amazing! Watching the tides change, while relaxing in the hot tub is something I could definitely get used to. How about you? Do you want to spend a week in Aliyah?
