What Do You Pack?

3 Flares 3 Flares ×

A few weeks ago I went on a long weekend trip with a few friends. When I put my bags in the car I realized that we are all very different, at least in how we pack. I had a backpack, my friend brought a bag and a suitcase, and my other friend had filled the entire trunk. We got in a big debate over what is the best way to pack.

I was in the pack light party. We were only going to be gone a couple of days, so how much could we possibly need? I always make a list of what I might need and then narrow it down from there. Usually for me that means my computer, a toothbrush, and a few changes of clothes.

The friend who packed the bag and suitcase explained that she wasn’t sure of what the weather would be so she brought clothes to cover the whole climate spectrum. She says it’s better to bring more than regret what you left behind.

Then there’s the friend that filled the trunk with board games, puzzles, blankets, and bags of snacks. She argued that there was a reason for everything she brought and you never know what might come in handy.

We called it a truce after the first hour in the car, but now I am ready for outside opinions. Which is the best way to pack? How do you pack?

ps. Have you heard of Burning House? It’s a blog where people post photos of what they would bring with them if their house was on fire. The photo above is one of them!

  1. I don’t know about others but I like to travel light. And talking about weather, I think you should first research about the place to know it rather than just assuming and carrying a truck load of all type of clothes.
