Writing an Owner Profile or 'About Us' for Your Vacation Rental

Making a personal connection with your guests is a big part of marketing your property. They will email with inquiries and you’ll respond with comprehensive answers to all their questions.  Building rapport with prospective guests like this can go a long way towards converting casual inquiries to solid bookings.   A complementary way to create a relationship is to share some personal information about yourselves and your property through an About Us page on your website, and in the Owner Profile section on your listing.

What should you share?

Owners are often wary about sharing too much information and it’s unnecessary to get too personal, however it’s easy to share some personal stuff without going into too much detail.  Guests might be interested in what motivated you to buy the property or wonder why you rent it out.  Was it the location or the climate or some other reason?  Here’s some examples:

“We came out to Eluthera in 1995 on our honeymoon and were entranced with the beauty of the place, the uninhabited beaches and the friendliness of the local people.  In a few short days we had been drawn into the laid-back Bahamian lifestyle, and relaxed more than we’d ever done before.  We decided then and there to buy a piece of property and over the next few years built the house that we now offer for rental.  It has been a labour of love as we furnished and finished it with local materials, landscaped the gardens and planted coconut palms and native shrubs. What you will find when you visit is our little piece of paradise on a beautiful beach.  Our family has loved countless vacations here, and we know you will too.”

Or….

“We love to ski so bought our beautiful chalet in what we think is the best ski area in Colorado.  When you stay here, we’ll make sure you have details on all our secret spots; where to ski off-piste; where the best moguls are, and the après ski spots you won’t want to miss.  We’ve spent the past 6 years scouting all these things out and want to share them with you so you don’t miss a minute of vacation time wondering where to find anything. “

Or…

“Our summer cottage has been in our family for nearly 100 years since Jane’s great grandfather bought it as a fishing and hunting lodge.  From its early beginnings as a cabin on the lake with few amenities, and outdoor facilities, each generation has added something new while allowing the traditional look and feel of the place to remain.  Since we (Jane and Rob) have been the proud owners, we’ve updated many parts of the property as the description shows, but you’ll still get the history in the oak beams, the old family photos showing how it looked in the early part of the last century, and the original features of each addition.  We don’t use it as much as we would like to now our children are grown so love the opportunity to share it with our guests.”
