One of our best "Poker Group Gals" getaways EVER!
May 9, 2015
First of all, since it was my turn to find a place for us to explore, my communications with Joyce - from beginning to end - were fabulous! She was responsive, accommodating and patient as there were a couple of glitches in terms of the rates posted on more than one site. She was wonderful, generous, and true to her word. Second, the house was even better than it appeared in pics! Fabulous views, multiple balconies, actually 4 beds not 3, the BEST location, and wanted for absolutely nothing (except, perhaps, more time!) I have three time share properties and regularly utilize VRBO both here at home and in Europe and this is without a doubt the most well-equipped house I've ever stayed in. First rate appliances, quality bed linens and towels, blankets, throws, etc., more than enough dishes, glasses, bakeware, cooking supplies, etc! Since one of our group was celebrating a birthday during this getaway and I was preparing the birthday dinner, I brought along a lot of pots and pans, knives, measuring cups, etc that I thought I might need and actually needed NONE of them! Location was great - from the private beach to our left, to the charm of Capitola Village, to the absolutely FABULOUS food tour we took in Santa Cruz, where we experienced not only some of the most delicious foods ever (we were stuffed to the gills by the time we got home around 6:00 p.m.), but learned so much about the community and architectural history of Santa Cruz! Highly, highly recommended! Charming places to eat all around us (think Shadowbrook Restaurant!), lots of grocery stores and markets including whole foods nearby (one of our group is gluten free and I found exactly the specialized flour I was looking for there!), and easy to get back on the 101 S to (sadly) head home again when time. If there was one negative - and it is a minor one because we were happy with the alternative we found (Beach Cliff Cafe), was the recommendation on the information sheet in the house of a breakfast place called Cafe Cruz, declared a personal favorite with fabulous food. Hard to find, and when we did, not open for breakfast. Strictly a lunch and dinner restaurant. No problems though, we LOVED our breakfast at the Beach Cliff Cafe and how we were treated - just might need to update the list a little. Checking out was as easy as checking in - not much we had to do at all. All in all, one of the best experiences our group has ever had on our getaways! So want to come back soon!!
