I'm a former English teacher who enjoyed growing up in San Diego attending St. Augustine High and the University of San Diego while living with my parents in what we now call "Valemont Vista." It's also a vacation home for our family part of the year. My wife Susan and I have four daughters and seven grandchildren.
My father who passed away in 2006 liked to take walks in the quiet neighborhood and knew many of his neighbors. Besides attending his local St. Agnes Church, he liked to stroll on nearby Shelter Island where he would watch the fisherman on the wharves. I enjoy walking down to the friendly local coffee houses on Rosecrans like "Reds" and "The Living Room" or over in OB (Ocean Beach). The latter is a favorite hangout for our family with something for everyone: people watching, surfing, swimming or boogie boarding, fishing or sightseeing on the long pier or visiting the colorful selection of nearby shops and restaurants. There is even a skateboarding park in OB that my grandson loves.
Over the last five years, we have upgraded "Valemont Vista" extensively with a new roof, appliances and beds as well as a complete exterior and interior painting. Renters have been pleased with these improvements while also appreciating our preservation some of the unique aspects of such well built homes from the fifties. Folks enjoy the colorful retro tile work in the two bathrooms and the wooden cabinets and the original electric stove and stove in the kitchen. Of course the same stunning view that prompted my mother to encourage my father to buy the house in the early sixties can be seen from the kitchen, balcony, dining room, living room and one of the bedrooms.
My enjoyment of Valemont Vista is intensified by the memories of past years I have shared with my family there. I hope you enjoy your visit and have similar pleasant memories.
