Terrific for extended family
August 6, 2013
The location on Lovell Lake is fabulous, facing west so sunsets over the water every night. Lots of space for family or group socializing in the large dining/living room, on the deck, in the boathouse and of course on the lakeside lawn. Dock extends into water deep enough to keep a modest sailboat alongside (about 6' deep at the end of the dock). Large kitchen was well supplied, although I did find myself wishing I'd brought my top-of-the-line skillet and a large stockpot (cooking for a crowd). Bedrooms upstairs spacious and lots of closet space to stash your stuff out of the way, and with amazing views of the lake - what a wonderful way to wake up in the morning. We were there for a whole week with 13 people in our party and never felt crowded. The water right off the bulwark is about 3' deep, so not a place you'd want to leave toddlers unsupervised, however my 9- and 11-year-old nieces spent hours and hours in the water, while we sat on the deck where we could easily see them. There is a small public beach not far away that was more fun for toddlers, with shallow water for them to sit in. We did not get to any of the local restaurants as a group, however the nearby Poor People's Pub and a small grocery store are accessible by kayak or canoe. Two of our party paddled down in the afternoon for a cocktail! Excellent sailing, canoeing and kayaking -- and while we didn't bring a powerboat it is an excellent spot for waterskiing, too. Took the kids to a pick-your-own farm one day, about 20-30 minutes away, and picked 20 lbs of blueberries and raspberries. They also had peaches and were growing apples and pears for later summer/fall. The owners are responsive and gracious and clearly were concerned that we had an excellent stay. Highly recommend this property.
