Just what we were looking for …
May 16, 2015
We could have gone anywhere for our 30th wedding anniversary but we decided that all we really needed was to be alone – to be able to enjoy each other’s company. You never know what you’re actually going to get but we really lucked out here. This place was exactly what we wanted. Nice and quiet. The property is secluded but close to town – but not walking distance. If you look closely at the pictures you’ll notice that the cabin has two parts – old and new where the front door acts as a transition in the middle. So one bedroom, eating area, kitchen and screened in porch are from the original cabin – very rustic and the other half – another bedroom, bath and living room (including a fireplace) are all recently redone. The combination of the old and new makes it very charming. We hiked Overlook Mountain which was close by. A fairly easy hike with a fire tower and the remains of an old hotel. Very interesting. We didn’t spend much time in Woodstock. Parking there is challenging. Didn’t realize that hippies still existed - ;). Catskill Mountain Pizza was awesome but cash only. They sell growlers of Lagunitas btw – other than that, I do not think you can get good beer in town. The West Hurley Market has the best beer (IPA’s) selection I’ve ever seen in a grocery store. It was one of our requirements that we be able to bring our dog. If you’re pet less and concerned about a place that is “pet friendly” – no worries because it was immaculate. Everything you might reasonably need is there. The DVD is not Blu-ray and I’m not sure we connected to the internet or whether it was just slow – but we really didn’t care – we ended up watching the cooking channel and loved it – never would do that at home. Thank you for sharing this family gem.
