Hi, I'm Chuck!
We're a middle class family living in a northern suburb of Milwaukee county
My wife is an RN who works with kids, I'm a professional insurance agent specializing in health insurance for seniors
Two daughters in their 20's, one in a grad prg for fine arts, the other does photo for a living
We were so fortunate to acquire this log home in Star Lake, Wisconsin right after it was completed in 1997. We love Star Lake and the land and people around it
Star Lake is in the Sayner-Star Lake recreation area, ( zoned for recreation and preservation ), located in the Wisconsin Highland forest, in Vilas county.
It's 20 min drive from Eagle River WI., 30 min from Minocqua, WI, 4.5 hrs from Milwaukee, 5 hours from Madison, WI
It's also 30 min drive from Michigan's upper peninsula. In 90 min you can be on the shore of Lake Superior
The town would be called a hamlet in Europe. There is one business, the Star Lake general store, built in 1938 Ice cream, bait, boat rentals, some groceries, fishing licenses, wine, conversation and more, all available
The other businesses are two great places to eat, Stillwaters, ( northwoods family friendly bar/restaurant ), and North Star Lodge, ( prob. the best restaurant in the county ).
Star Lake is within 20 min of 5 other lakes, some uninhabited, most are great fishing. The Star Lake store keeps boats on several lakes
The house is built of 300 yr old hemlock pines,( felled by a tornado in 1988 ), the only old growth trees left after the early 20th century logging
The Retreat owns two private acres of terraced lawns and woods, on a ridge overlooking the 1200 acre Star lake
The house is amazing. The logs are huge, cedar tone, hand stripped and end in the Scandenavian angular cut. It's a three level mix of ancient rock for the base and fireplace, primal wood for the walls and beautiful European style craftsmanship throughout. Visit it on face book as Star Lake Retreat
