The Emerald Coast, on Florida's northwestern panhandle, is comprised of The Fort Walton Beach-Okaloosa Island-Destin area to the west and the Beaches of South Walton 10 miles to the east. Miramar Beach is one of 14 beach communities in the Beaches of South Walton
The white sandy beaches on the Emerald Coast are what make the area so popular. The stunning beaches have been voted the safest in the country and in the Top 10 beaches in the country. Southern Living readers voted Fort Walton Beach as the Best Beach in the South and a Top Family Destination. USA Today voted the beach as the #1 Beach in America. In all, the Fort Walton-Okaloosa Island-Destin area is home to 26 miles of beaches. Miramar Beach, certified as a "Blue Wave" beach, meets criteria for water quality and habitat conservation. Beachgoers can spend all day swimming, wind surfing, wind sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, or canoeing.
In addition, the Emerald Coast has numerous attractions, including zoos, museums, and water parks. The Air Force Armament Museum, the Emerald Coast Science Center, and Florida's Gulfarium provide fun educational excursions. Destin, known as the "world's luckiest village," is recognized as the quickest deep water access on the Gulf of Mexico. Shopping and dining abound in the area at many of the malls, shops, and restaurants. There is also plenty of golfing on the many beautiful and challenging golf courses. The Emerald Coast, further, has its share of nightlife, bowling alleys, and fine arts attractions.
