Hi, I'm Sandy!

Although a Colorado native and resident, I've been coming to Maine every summer for almost 40 years. I discovered Lake St. George through a dear friend who has a camp there. I rented for years, then finally found this cottage. I visit twice at the beginning and end of each summer and I look forward to its pristine, perfect peace for the entire rest of the year. I'm a children's book agent, author and illustrator, and my picture book, MOON LOON, is a true story from this special lake.

Enjoy swimming, kayaking, fishing, and all the moods that the lake has to offer. But don't forget to grab some pie ala mode at Moody's, visit the deli at Morse's, and sample seafood just about anywhere! If you make it to Acadia, don't miss Scoodic, and plan to be atop Cadillac Mountain at sunset. And, of course, go to Pemaquid Beach and visit my favorite lighthouse at the Point.

I hope you will choose Moon Loon. It's magical.

“ Excellent ”

This must be the best place in Maine. It's location on Lake Saint George is gorgeous. It's well separated from the other houses on that stretch of the lake and, sitting on either your own terrace or on the deck by the water, it's easy to imagine you have the loons and the sunset all to yourself. The house itself has a great atmosphere; we felt at home the minute we walked in. It's roomy too, with a fully equiped kitchen, fireplace and bay windows with the same magic view. Bedrooms are large albeit somewhat cluttered with boxes and stuff from the owner. We didn't mind; if anything it added to the homely feel. Beds were excellent; nice and firm. And they were cool, which was surprising as temperatures were well up in the 80's during the day. The bathroom was real small and - as the owner says in her welcome book - a little funky. But hey, the shower is great, so.... the househas it's own little jetty and a swim raft, so swimming is great. There is a sandy patch near the jetty so you can avoid the squishy stuff on the lake's bottom. There are also two small kayaks - which are great - but if there's four of you, you'll have to take turns. The lake is too big to swim across, so you'd better get an extra vessel of some sort if you want to take full opportunity of all the islands and the rope swings (!). The water of the lake is exceptionally clear and fresh; friends tell me that's because most species of fish are kept out of the lake. But there is enough trout and bass to keep the loons and the bald eagles around. All in all Moon Loon is a magical place and we had the best holiday in years. We miss it.
