Truly a piece of Paradise

“ Excellent ”

We are 2 couples who stayed at Bello Mar for 10 days end of Feb-beginning of March. Elizabeth was easy to contact and a pleasure to work with. She answered all inquiries quickly and satisfactorily. Her directions to the condo were clear, and everything was as she'd said it would be upon arrival. The unit itself is wonderful: it is third floor with windows in the sitting area overlooking the ocean, and surf rolling in below. We felt very comfortable and "at home" there. The kitchen had everything we needed to work with, and full-size grocery stores were just a few minutes drive away. The crown of this condo, though, is the rooftop terrace! We had most meals up there, usually at the front table, overlooking the water and along the shore to Luquillo beach, though sometimes at one of the bistro tables in the back where we could look at El Yunque. There are roosters and dogs roaming the neighbourhood; they start crowing and barking early, which didn't really bother us, but you might like to bring earplugs if you think it would disturb you. The neighbourhood itself feels safe, and we were often greeted by the locals. Turning right from the condo, 2 minutes walk brings you to an outdoor basketball court that you cross to access a beach; you can follow this up to the mouth of a river, and even cross the river and continue on if you wish (we didn't, but we had some pleasant sunning and wading). Our favourite, however, was to turn left and walk along the street until it ran out at the baseball field, then go around the field on the beach and back up to the road on the other side, taking the road either in front of or behind the kiosks; at the end of the kiosks you get back on the sand and you're at the Luquillo public beach (balneario); it is also a short little drive if you prefer, with loads of parking (paid). This is a great beach, with pleasant temperature water and easy waves. There are amenities there (wash/change rooms, shop) and shelters. It was well-used but never crowded. Walking further up the beach you can go around the point and continue to Fajardo! Bello Mar is also handy to many of the best attractions: El Yunque rain forest, bioluminescent bay, ferries to Culebra and Vieques, and even an easy trip to the fantastic Sunday lecheronas in Guavate! We stayed in 3 other places in PR, all of which had great points, but this was our all-round favourite for location, comfort, and amenities. We would definitely rent from Elizabeth at Bello Mar again!
