Hi, we're Diane and Bill!

We are the Hortons, Bill and Diane. Bill is a consultant in Cambridge, Mass. Diane is a potter/sculptor (clay). We fell in love with Deer Isle 28 years ago and like many who visit we dreamed of having the opportunity to visit the island annually. We moved to the island this year. John Steinbeck describes is aptly in "Travels with Charlie"the most wonderful place to be but I cannot tell you exactly why."
We are interested in renting our house Summer or Fall 2014 by the month or two week blocks. July and August are the most popular months for families with or without children. Fall, however, is fabulous but if you have children September or October isn't possible unless you Home School.
Deer Isle is part of a magnificent grouping of islands along the "downeast" coast of Maine. The island is connected by a beautiful bridge. D.I. is a fishing community primarily with a collection of outstanding Artists and Craftsman as well. The summer is beautiful for those who love hiking, beaching, kayaking and wildlife lovers. Acadia National Park is 45 minutes away and is part of the collection of islands and peninsula. Also, the Blue Hill Penninusula works very hard in each of the little townships to provide Summer performing arts events. On Deer Isle we are BLESSED WITH THE OPERA HOUSE. Every weekend fabulous films, live theatre or live music (imported from NYC, New Orleans or Maine). The art galleries are plentiful and there are week long art courses for children and adults. Haystack Mountain School of Art and Crafts is world renown and offers two week courses.
