Hi, I'm Maria!

Hi, I'm Maria. Thanks for considering Casa Palomita for your stay in our beautiful Oaxaca. I bought a home in Oaxaca and completely renovated it with the help of some wonderful people. The men and women (!) put lots of love and skill in almost every corner of Casa Palomita. They said they loved working on this house, that the energy in the house and the quality of the work inspired them. One day I watched the master stone smith spend two hours carving the fountain with his chisel, he would make a mark then stand back and study how the water fell into the basin, then go back and make another chisel and over and over until the water fell just right. It was beautiful to watch. You will find many artisans like this in Oaxaca, they spill into the street. I work in public health here in San Francisco and plan to move to Oaxaca when I retire. Until then, I wanted a place to share with family and friends old and new...a place where they felt totally at home and would return and return. I priced it so that it would be very accessible. My daughter, Paloma, and I welcome you to our home and ask that you make it your own while you are there. You will leave making a new friend in Jorge, I promise that.

Casa Palomita was even better than my expectations, and my expectations were pretty high (based on the website and recommendations)! As Oaxaca is one of my favorite places on earth, I rented la casa for the month of October as a gift to myself for my 70th birthday. I invited various friends to come down to share at different times during the month. I have spoken with several of these friends and we cannot come up with even one complaint or suggestion for improvement. The location is excellent, in a quiet and historical neighborhood a 20 minute walk from the zocalo. The house is beautifully designed and furnished (that's an understatement), Lu, the on-site manager, is delightful - always helpful, never intrusive. We didn't cook much (only guacamole and margaritas most evenings, and the occasional breakfast), but the kitchen is fully equipped. Plenty of hot water. Pochote Market - just a couple of blocks away - on Fridays and Saturdays, a great place for breakfast, buying good breads, goat cheese/yogurt, flowers, and visiting (and buying from) the weavers who do their magic on the way up to Pochote. The information provided at la casa is excellent. For restaurants, Itanoni (a pleasant walk to the nearby neighborhood of Reforma) was a favorite, as was La Quinque just on the way towards the zocalo). We generally took public buses to nearby sites (Lu is a good resource for this) so did not use drivers, but Don Vidal provides an excellent and reliable taxi service for the airport, etc. In summary, my entire experience with renting and enjoying Casa Palomita, from beginning the process with Maria to saying adios to Lu, was nothing but pleasant. My only concern is whether or not it will be available for my next visit to Oaxaca!
