Hi, we're Steve & Amy!

Hi, my name is Steve Hedrick. My wife and I have owned and operated Mound View Farm for many years. The farm has been in the family for 5 generations. In 2014 the farm will have been in the family for 100 yrs. On the farm we raise corn, wheat, hay, oats and cattle. We are also avid gardeners, have our own bee hives where we harvest honey, and have lots of chickens for farm fresh eggs.

What a wonderful place. The owners/farmers greeted us upon arrival, brought us homegrown tomatoes and homemade butter, and stayed to answer questions about the property and made sure we knew how to easily walk to the fishing pond (lots of fun, caught many fish) and gave us our space completely after that. It didn't at all feel like we were on a farm while at the cabin. We were also able to go visit the farm one evening to see the milking process and Amy & Steve were beyond friendly. Our kids were able to see piglets, horses, lots of barn cats, farm dogs, cows, and they even share pears and apples fresh off the tree before we left. The town of Peebles was neat, nice coffee shop, easy access to local stores if we needed anything or grew tired of grilling our own food. Serpents Mound turned out to be a really cool place to visit, I didn't know anything about it before arrival. The home was super clean, trees spaced just right to hang our hammock, spent loads of time on the deck swing enjoying coffee. Saw quite a few chipmunks, abundance of caterpillars for the kids to find (we have 3 in cacoons at home now), the star gazing was superb (lots of shooting stars and ridiculously clear skies, as you'd expect/hope in the country). All the supplies we could need were there. The TV was nice to have in the evenings for winding the kids down, DVD player bonus since we brought movies in the van (although they have several movies there if you forget to bring some). The washer/dryer came in handy one evening. The only gravel road traffic we would see were the owners or their kids visiting, and they were clearly respectful and seemed to intentionally not look in our direction if we were outside, so as to be respectful of our space. Gravel road is a good distance away, there was plenty of room for the kids to roam without any fear of harm. We felt at home, and knew that if we had questions about the town or where to find something, the owners were a text away. Phone service was also unexpectedly great at the cabin. Fire pit is well built and good size for a large fire. They are generous with the amount of wood (no extra charge) they leave for you, variety of sizes. We had a relaxing stay and will definitely return again.
