Inside the music
July 31, 2015
How lucky for me that I had the opportunity to stay at The Duck House in early July. My nine day introduction to Nashville was wonderful, in part due to this comfortable house, the welcoming and gracious hospitality of its host, and its beautiful treed setting. Upon arrival from Canada (on Canada Day, July 1st), I immediately felt as though I belonged at The Duck House as I was asked to join in plans to celebrate July 4th. During my stay, I felt totally at ease using the spaces as I would use my own -- whether cooking in the kitchen or reading a book in the living room. For me, the antique pieces of furniture in the bedrooms brought a feeling of warmth, while the air conditioning was welcomed on each return when I walked into the house. Although I only explored the big back yard to investigate the fruit trees and vegetable garden, the yard is there for the using, with a lawn, deck and bar-b-que. The lovely established, treed neighbourhood even got me out jogging in the morning to explore. The Duck House is located within an easy drive to South 12th Avenue and downtown with its many attractions, as well as grocery stores and other day-to-day facilities you might need. And in the other direction, it is a short distance to Radnor Lake State Natural Area (inside the city) with its natural beauty, great blue herons and more. Visiting a songwriter friend and staying at The Duck House, I was very fortunate (as a music appreciator) to view the songwriter's day-to-day experience from the inside. If The Duck House is available when I visit the creative city of Nashville again, I will definitely choose to return.
