Lakes Region Travel Resources

The Lakes Region is located in Central New Hampshire, and is, as expected, comprised of many lakes. The most well-known lakes in the area are Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Winnisquam, Squam Lake, Ossipee Lake, Newfound Lake and Sunapee Lake. Lake Winnipesaukee is the most popular of the area’s lakes and is actually the sixth largest natural lake in the United States.

Many of the regions activities are outdoors. There are plenty of trails to be biked and hiked, and mountains to be skied and snowboarded.  Many of the popular activities, of course, take place on the lake. There’s some great fresh water fishing, and families love to tube and water ski. It’s just important to appreciate that many of these lakes are more difficult to navigate than most think, and a lake map is a must.

Two of the big draws to the area are New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Laconia Bike Week.  New Hampshire Motor Speedway is home to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Global Rallycross Championships and others.  Laconia Motorcycle Week is a bike rally held in June full of fun events and great food.  Hundreds of thousands of bikers flock to Laconia for this event each June, so if you’re planning a trip prepare for the traffic.

There are a bunch of great restaurants, galleries and antique shops in the Lakes Region. It’s an extremely safe region, and as a result families love to travel here to expose their children to the beautiful outdoors.
