The Boveda apartments in Old San Juan are the BEST! I had the pleasure of being one of the first guests in the Garden Suite with my girlfriend visiting from Germany. I was apprehensive at first as to how the thing about the employees coming through the apartment would work out, as privacy is important to me. It turned out to be no problem. The room is separate, and the door locks. If they went through the other part, we never saw them, but really, we were out pretty much all day, and after 6pm the store is closed, so there's no one coming in. Actually the employees in the store were a real plus, serving as a sort of concierge service. We were both impressed with the room. It was cool and quiet, and the living room is like a balcony overlooking lush tropical plants and trees, with over sized wicker furniture to sink into.
