Mon Jul 24 Ride Giro d'Italia climbs In planning our trip to ride bikes on the classical Giro d'Italia climbs, our 16-year-old son and I discovered that Bormio is an optimal location. We set our base in Zoe and Dario's lovely flat. Although we had a car, we discovered that for most rides, we didn't even need the car and were able to begin and end our rides in Bormio. We climbed the Mortirolo (twice, from different directions), the Gavia, and the Stelvio. Our son did the Stelvio twice, once from the North and once from the South, and did an additional ride to Livigno and back. One of the most amazing biking weeks I have ever had. My wife, who is not a biker, found plenty to do, walking around the town, and she even found a nice hiking trail that begins and ends in Bormio. Dario and Zoe were very helpful, not only with issues relating to the flat, but also with excellent recommendations on places to visit and directions. They were a pleasure to work with and the flat was everything they said it was - very light, well furnished, clean, and a wonderful place to come back to after a long bike ride in the mountains. We'd love to come back to Bormio or possibly rent the Luino flat next time, as I understand there are great bike rides in that area as well. Bormio - July 2006 - Philip, Sandy & Avi
