Mon Apr 24 Great repeat visits! Our family has been here twice before, in 2002 and 2004, and we plan to book again soon. Everything you read about this villa, the area, and Franco is all true. We have had children with us both times, and never felt that they couldn't run around and have fun (so long as they are "pool safe"; there is no fence, etc. around the pool--I haven't seen any fenced pools in Italy at all in private villas.) This is a great place to use as a base for day trips to Tuscany and Umbria, and then let the kids run around a bit and swim at the end of the day. You can cook on your own, arrange for a great meal to be cooked at the villa (ask Franco) or go to one of several restaurants and a pizza place less than 5 minutes away (but you need to drive down the hill--not really walkable unless you are into heavy fitness hiking or marathon hill training.)The village Mercatale is friendly, but your kids (and you) will really feel you are in Italy...in the stores, little English is spoken, but it isn't a problem at all--gestures work well, and any attempt at Italian is very welcome and appreciated, even if you mangle the language and the lines are straight from a tour book! Though this is a great family place, couples would feel fine, too--there is a surprising amount of privacy in the units, given that they are all part of the one big villa, save for the house. Nothing better than picking up some bread, cheese, fruit and chocolate, and grabbing that bottle of wine you bought at the wine store in whatever local village you visited that day, and heading out to the pool area to sit (in shade or sun) and watch your kids play while the sun goes down on the beautiful, green (and remarkably undeveloped in this area) countryside. I can't say enough about this place. Thanks, Franco--(and sorry it has taken so long to review this spot!)
