Gracious Upper West Side Studio | This is an architecturally beautiful studio situated in a great neighbourhood. It has been newly renovated and the location is remarkably quiet despite the fact it is on the first floor facing the street. The studio is very well appointed, though it could benefit from a little more storage space in the wardrobes as there is only hanging space, with no shelves. The owners are gracious hosts, and easily contactable if there is any sort of problem (I couldn't work out how to get the cable TV to operate; someone was at the door in 15 minutes to help me out.) The apartment is close to restaurants, foodstores, the Subway (1,2 and 3 lines), the Natural History Museum, and is a block away from Central Park. It proved to be a lovely place to rest and recharge after the hustle and bustle of the city. I would certainly stay there again! |

Value for money, even if a little too cosy | As with all things real-estate in New York City, life is a trade off. The neighbourhood is great, it really is a local place with character, and the apartment is extremely quiet at night, the view from the tar beach roof is exceptional, transport links are great. However - cosy is an understatement, and you would be pushing it to have four adults in the place at one time - there simply isn't enough physical space in the place. The airconditioning is pretty noisy and the beds are well beyond their use by date. There is also way too much of the owner's stuff left in the place when space is a premium. That said, for the price, it's pretty good value, and the owners are very friendly and accomodating. I am sure staying in any other season than summer would also prove to be more comfortable. |
