My cousins and I were looking for a place to unwind and hang out for a summer weekend in July, and the biggest draw to this house was the price (it was very reasonable for everyone’s budget) and fun perks like a pool table, a grill, the lake and other community amenities. Natalie was a pleasure to deal with and she was very reliable over email. I had no issues booking the rental, paying, and having some general questions answered. My family arrived to find large patches of mildew growing on the outside of the house, and after entering we found cobwebs looming throughout every room. Not a good start. Most notably, the worst part of this rental (and our entire vacation) was the dank smell inside. Because the windows and doors are kept locked and closed when the house is unoccupied, the air was thick and stale and rotten. We tried opening windows to air the place out, but the air just wouldn’t circulate and small holes in the window screens would invite moths and other insects. The bedding that was already in place looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time and it also had absorbed the funky smell (luckily we brought our own bedding). There were also several disadvantages that could have been better tackled if we had known more details beforehand. For example, we knew there was no air conditioning, but the availability of only one floor fan (in the living room) and only one ceiling fan (in the kitchen) with the complete lack of ventilation and was very surprising. Also, we knew basic products were not provided (linens, hand soap, paper products, etc) so we brought what was listed in the information packet and anything else we could think of, but I wish we had known to bring some sort of water filtration (luckily we had brought water bottles with us) because even the water had a smell. I can fully attest that my family is a group of experienced and prepared travelers, but even with everything we could have done, nothing prepared us for the smell that permeated everything from our clothes to our hair to our luggage. We had booked for 3 nights but left after 2 nights because we just couldn’t stand the smell and were worried about the quality of the air and water. The house was neither messy nor disorderly, but it was definitely not well-maintained and it just seems like no one lives there or cares for it regularly. The Twin Oaks Chalet is not an alpine vacation home; It is a musty old house in the woods.

Great chalet for family vacation
August 9, 2010
We rented the Twin Oaks Chalet in Albrightsville Pa for 5 days in July 2010. We found the chalet, neat, clean and welcoming. Our daughter and her family flew into Scranton Pa from NC, an easy 40 min drive to the airport. They joined the rest of the family. The Chalet had everything we needed for a restful family vacation with room for 7 adults and two young boys, if anything can be restful with a 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 year old running around, they loved every minute of our stay. There was plenty of sleeping space and a very nice living area, full up todate kitchen, and several TVs for viewing. We spent alot of time on the wonderful deck off the kitchen, cooking and eating there every night. We also watched deer in the evening. The area is private and had something for everyone. The lake, sandy beach, pool and playground are a short 5 min. drive and with the hot weather this summer we took full advantage. There was also a snack bar, game room, and paddleboat rentals available. We planned a golf outing, but thunderstorms changed our plans. So we went exploring,we found a wonderful restaurant, Penns Peak, with a view well worth the visit, it was only about a 20 min. drive. The chalet offered a full size pool table and foose ball table for adult evening entertainment. WiFi was also a plus. The owner was very helpful prior to our coming, offering suggestion about linen services and activities in the area. We would not think twice about renting here again, but would stay longer.
From August 2011:

I would highly recommend staying at Twin Oaks Chalet. I stayed at the house a couple of years ago and had a great time. The house was cozy, clean and well maintained. Being an outdoor/nature lover, I found that the location of the house was in close proximity to a lot of fun outdoor activities. I would definitely stay again!
Our stay at this cozy and quaint vacation home was very enjoyable.
It was well maintained, clean and very convenient to many popular attractions.
We loved visiting the Historic town of JIm Thorpe, Bushkill Falls, the Casino, the Outlets, Beltzville Park and especially loved those relaxing days just laying on the beach.
I would definitely recommend this comfy vacation home and plan to book another vacation there.
