Description of the Alton vacation cottage rental
Step back in time in this all-original lake-house from a bygone era. Many original features including pine paneling and Art Deco couch. Originally built in 1951 by Rev Charles C. Noble, who had been affiliated with nearby Camp Kehonka. We've always used the property for ourselves, so it's comes fully furnished and filled with family memorabilia. We're now offering for rent on a limited basis for the first time. Most of the weeks on the calendar are still taken by the extended family, but starting this year, weeks will become available both 'in-season' (July through Aug) and the cooler June & Sept 'shoulder' season, which will be at a lower price. It's an un-insulated lake-house, and thus isn't suitable for winter rental.

The cottage rents Sat to Sat., but we will consider Sun to Sun on the July 4th week and/or some combination of a partial week (i.e. 8-12 days) on the adjacent June/July weeks.

Unfortunately, we have ONLY the following (4) weeks available this year:

June 21st to June 28th Price: $1450/week

June 28th to July 5th Price: $2200/week

July 12th to July 19th Price: $2500/week

Aug 30th to Sept 6th Price: $2500/week

At 2-3/4 acres, the property is about half-again larger than the average lakefront property on Lake Winnipesaukee. So it's very private and quiet. The sloping property is still in its original wooded state with large Pines throughout, although some trees have been thinned in front of the cottage to aid the view. The property is on a private road, with a long winding driveway down the sloping property to the house, so there is no road noise what so ever. Parking area is set up the hill, away from the house, keeping the house as private as possible.

We’ve got 265' of natural/unspoiled waterfront facing directly west, so sunsets are directly out over the lake. Property is on secluded 'Chestnut Cove' so boat traffic is far less than more populated areas. There’s a large dock area with shade pergola, for ample seating and can accommodate a 22’ boat. Included are kayaks; canoe; etc. Both Parker and Gillan Marine in nearby Alton Bay have power boats for rent.

We’re located about 8 miles (15 min) from downtown Wolfeboro with its many fine restaurants and shops. Travel about 6 miles (12 minutes) the other direction and you’re in Alton Bay.

I know I’m partial, but it’s no exaggeration to describe the view as stunning. The property looks out across the large open expanse on the lake called 'The Broads' between the southern end of the lake and Rattlesnake Island. Cooling breezes normally flow down the lake and right up our property.

While the size of the cottage is modest, the layout with bedrooms on either end of the house provides a fair amount of sleeping capacity. With 5 bedrooms we sleep 9 outright, plus an additional 2 on a pullout couch on the porch and an additional 4 in the large Canvas Tent Platform up the property. That’s sleeping capacity of 15 total and nobody on the floor. Take the master bedroom off the living room and put the kids in the 3 bedrooms at the far end of the house for maximum privacy. Three bedrooms face the lake, with 2 facing the side and back of the house. Bedrooms are compact, since it’s assumed vacationers will spend their time in the living room/porch areas or down by the waterfront.

The kitchen is on the small side but does have a compact island facing the living room with high-stool seating for 4. No granite countertops or dishwasher… This is an all-original period cottage with rustic pine cabinets. Just off the kitchen is a large screened porch area with rustic dining table that seats about 10. So it’s not a long walk to serve meals. This is quiet lakeside living. There's a bathroom on either end of the house.

We don’t have many weeks available this year, but we expect more time to become available next year and beyond. So please contact us to get on our waiting list for next season. Let us know which week(s) work best for you so we can consider moving around our schedule to accommodate you! We’d like you to become a regular guest at our family’s cottage for years to come!
