Secluded rustic cabin on 70 acres- mountain views!
Drive to the tiny village at the end of the state highway. Continue north into the mountains, and the road soon turns to dirt. Drive along the babbling brook for another mile. Turn right just before the road turns into a snowmobile trail in the rugged Sawyer Notch. Wind your way up onto the ridge through a beautiful birch forest. Drive to the end of the road and you're there!
Settle in, enjoy the panoramic mountain view from the huge open deck under the hemlock trees. No TV, no noise, no traffic, no people. Set on the porch, sipping stove-top percolated steamy coffee. Doze off in the chaise lounge. You won't miss electricity. Snuggle by the wood stove and play checkers or read. Just you, your family, (including your pets!) and books, board games, crossword puzzles, cards, campfire, woods, streams, waterfalls, owls, turkeys, deer, moose and mountains, lots of mountains. Wander down the trail and see a moose. Find antler sheds. Snow shoe, ski, hike, bike, ATV, kayak... or... just SIT and do nothing! Wake up in the morning and enjoy the panoramic mountain view, without moving a muscle, from the huge window at the foot of your bed. Additional huge windows in the kitchen and living room assures you will not miss the gorgeous sunset from any room. Yes, even the bathroom!!
The cottage is non-electric... no intrusions from the outside world. For your comfort and convenience, it has gas lights, a refrigerator/freezer, and a full size range. The attached (heated!) bath room has a clean, odor free composting toilet, seasonal gravity fed solar heated shower and a sink. Drinking and washing water, and firewood are provided. There is a full bed in a private bedroom; two twin beds in the loft (which are easily slid together to form a KING size bed!) . WE ARE PET FRIENDLY; do not leave Fido behind! There is plenty of room for him to run.
We are on a hill, it provides the AWESOME view AWD/4WD strongly recommended in winter!

Reviews for this vacation cabin rental in Andover, Maine

My boyfriend and I stayed from a Friday-Sunday. We enjoyed sitting by the fire Friday night. Saturday afternoon we took the snowmobiles through Grafton Notch, on our way back we got to see a bobcat! Sunday morning on our way to breakfast we saw two deer on the trail, on the way back from breakfast he proposed on a scenic hill side! It was such an amazing weekend! The cabin was everything I could have hoped for and more, clean, cozy and fully stocked with all our essentials. Brenda and Lance were both so helpful and welcoming. We loved meeting them and getting to know them! Neither of us can wait to go back! Thank you again!!
My goodness Michelle, it was an exciting weekend for you and Seth! I thought there were extra twinkles in your eyes when you stopped by on your way home.... The peaceful surroundings and scenery must relax and inspire couples, this is the third proposal we have had occur up here on the mountain! So happy for you both! Glad we get to provide happy memories for so many.... So rewarding for us! Hope to see you soon; P.S. we do honeymoons!!
Nature at its Best!

I stayed at camp Winona in February 2013 during a Nor'Easter and loved the seclusion! I Decided to bring my wife and 2 kids in August of 2014 to Moose Mountain cabin! I highly recommend both cabins for anyone wanting to get back into nature! Something to keep in mind if you are trying to decide which cabin is for you, is that Moose Mountain cabin has an indoor bathroom! This was the main reason why I decided to stay at this cabin instead of camp Winona. My kids were 3 and 5 at the time, and having the bathroom inside made a huge difference for us! Both cabins have their qualities. It depends on what you want. I will also say, it was nice to be at Moose Mountain cabin also, because we were able to park our vehicle 10 feet in front of the front door to the cabin! Again, young kids. Something to keep in mind. I love both cabins so much that I have already reserved Moose Mountain for this summer with the family, and also extended the invite out to some distant family members to rent camp Winona the same weekend that we will be at Moose Mountain. This should make for a GREAT little vacation! I am very excited. The kids CAN'T stop talking about the cabin since last summer! My 4 year old son said he wants to pay for the cabin with the money in his piggy bank! God Bless him! haha. Great times to be had up in the mountains of Andover, ME. P.S The ledges were a BIG HIT with the family!

We love this place !it was our third time staying here and by far the most memorable, i got engaged! We brought our snowmobiles and while out riding he popped the question: ) it was an amazing weekend. We will be back this summer for our honeymoon. Brenda and lance are the best and make this place unforgettable!

My wife, myself and our two dogs booked the cabin for 3 nights in January. We ended up staying an extra night. With the wind chill the temp was -25F. We stayed two years ago and loved it then as well. We will be back next winter if not sooner! The owners are wonderful people and the property is beyond gorgeous!
Prettiest of Views
December 30, 2014
No where in my travels have I found a place like this that had breathtaking views right from the bed. You'll wake up looking at paradise and not want to get down from the bed. You drive through a winter wonder land to get to the cabin. The cabin was charming and cosy. We loved huddling around the wood stove that kept us warm during the cold winter. There were a lot of pretty trails around the cabin to explore. It was a real Maine country side experience that we want to come back to in all four seasons.

Thanksgiving at moose mountain cabin!

What a blast! The husband and I came up to get away from all the stresses that go along with the holidays and we couldn't have picked a more perfect spot. Quiet, secluded and a great view! The snow covering made everything picturesque. Even tho it seemed like everything must have been miles away it was all so close. It only took a few minutes to get to town and the sites. Devils den was a great spot as was the ledges and I'm sure the falls are beautiful during their running season. We can't wait to come back during a warmer season to see the sites at their peak and try Winona cabin.
Love to have you guys back again.... each season here is so different, the scenery changes drastically. Not sure when is my favorite time of year. I'd have to pick late August if I had to, or maybe late September. No wait, I really love when the snow is really deep in February; then again early May is so green.... LOL
Great getaway and great hosts

The location of the cabin is as ideal of a spot as any i have ever seen. Set on a ridge, surrounded by mountains, i immediately could feel the stress leave me upon arrival. The husband and wife who own the property couldn't be any nicer and were very eager to make my experience a good one. The cabin is very clean and has a cozy feel to it. The only reason i didn't give five stars was the wood stove took some work to get going due to the wood not being completely seasoned. However, they did supply enough kindling to make it possible to light. If you like to hunt, atv, snowmobile or just be surrounded by pristine wilderness then you won't be disappointed. I would definitely go back again.
So glad you liked the cabin Mario. We use the same firewood at our house and haven't had a problem. Not sure what happened there, as we also lit the fire off for you before you came. It takes awhile to get used to the operation of a stove when you are not used to it. We are always happy to help when asked!
Off the grid relaxation at it's best!
November 2, 2014
As the title says, this place offered relaxation at it's finest. My wife and I went for three night with our dogs and had an amazing time. The weather wasn't the best while we were there but we still got out each day for a hike with the dogs and had fun exploring the area! The bed was comfortable, gas lights easy to work, fire place kept it toasty, and the fridge and oven worked perfectly! If you're looking to get away from it all and disconnect from emails, facebook, etc then this is the place! Plus your hosts are awesome!!

An autumn paradise!

My husband, dog and I just spent the three-day Columbus Day weekend at the Moose Mountain cabin. The location is fantastic – tucked away in the woods with nothing around you but quiet and beauty. The fall colors were spectacular and we spent hours just sitting on the deck and staring at the scenery! We hiked the surrounding trails – Bailey dog was thrilled to be able to run off-leash. We also explored the area by car one afternoon, going north to the Rangeley area and Height of Land, and also south to Bethel and the Sunday River area. All of it was beautiful, and the area scenery ranged from wooded areas to open farm land (we even saw some buffalo!). The cabin itself is beautiful and ‘solid’ – very well built! To shower, we did need to heat up our water but once that was done, it was fine. All in all it was a nice balance between off-grid (i.e. no electricity, so we listened to a lot of radio – the baseball playoffs to be exact!) and modern amenities, as there is a fridge, gas stove and gas lamps. We got to meet Brenda and Lance on our last day and they were great – very friendly! We hope to be able to make it back again and enjoy it during another season.

We really enjoyed our short trip. Cabin was great! Pictures don't do the view nor the cabin justice. We hope to stay again, still on a quest to see a moose. Would love to be there in the winter, but our Toyota Avalon would not get very far;)

My husband and 2 dogs and myself stayed for a week in July. It was amazing! The view from the deck was so beautiful, and it's the same view from the bedroom. You literally open your eyes in the morning and are looking out a big picture window framing a beautiful mountain view. The cabin itself was perfect and had everything needed to make the stay comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking every day with the dogs. We saw moose, deer, rabbit, fox and a bear. It was a great vacation and was truly reenergizing. We will be back and we can't recommend it enough if you're looking for a quiet vacation with a comfortable cabin , endless trails, amazing scenery and where dogs are welcomed. Thank you!
Scenic Relaxing Honeymoon
July 30, 2014
We decided to stay here for a week for our honeymoon, and are glad we did! We stayed in the Moose Mountain cabin and it was great—comfortable, well put together, homey, etc. with amazing mountain views right out the window. The cabin has a lot of natural light, and at night you can see the stars very clearly if you step outside since there is no light pollution. The cabin is very well stocked with good books, games, and basic kitchen supplies as well as pans, plates, etc., and we were provided with ample drinking water for the week (we had purchased jugs of water ahead of time, not sure what to expect, and we didn't need them!). The cabin has gas lamps (no electricity), water for washing pumped from barrels on the roof, and a composting toilet, all of which took a second to figure out, but we quickly got used to them—they were well put together, clean, and accompanied by directions on how to use them. The shower water didn't heat up so we had to boil it, but it really was no trouble—the stove works well, and there are large tea pots provided for heating water when it is needed. There is also a refrigerator. The nearest grocery store is about 25 minutes away, so it's best to pick up what you need at the beginning of your stay but it's not a bad drive if you need to get there in the middle. Downtown Andover is also nearby (maybe 15 minutes away) and it has a small store where you can buy takeout food and some basic items, but we did not visit that store so we do not know what it's like. The cabin has one bed downstairs, and two upstairs along with a small mattress for little kids, so it can accommodate a couple or a family easily. There are a number of hiking trails around the cabin, and a map is provided for helping you to navigate them. We explored a few of them and they were quite beautiful; we encountered some little frogs along the way, and saw some moose tracks (but no moose). Brenda has some of her artwork on the walls of the cabin and it is spectacular—definitely worth a look, and she was happy to tell us about it! She and her husband were superb hosts, and made sure that we were taken care of. It was a challenge at first getting to the cabin, but we figured out the way pretty quickly. It's (literally) off the map but this is part of its charm. If you want to be in nature but would also like to be in a cozy cabin, we highly recommend this place. We plan on visiting again in the future.
Remote family getaway
July 13, 2014
What a visit we had a the Moose Mountain cabin! It was truly perfect for our family of five - two adults, two kids and our pooch. We had quite a long, but lovely hike to Devil's Den which was 3.7 miles from the cabin according our GPS. We arrived back to the cabin before sundown, and slept deeply and peacefully after viewing the "super moon" in the night sky. There's no better sleep than after a long walk, nestled in a comfy bed with a gentle breeze filling the room. We woke in the morning to the sound of rain on the roof, and enjoyed simply sitting; watching the fog and clouds kissing the mountainous skyline as the blue sky and sun danced into view. We will definitely return for a longer stay, and come prepared for long hikes. Thanks for a remote family getaway!

Absolute Bliss !!!!!
April 2, 2014
My Boyfriend and I spent the most amazing week at moose mountain cabin !! From the moment we walked in the door we fell in love with the cabin and the surroundings. The cabin was clean, extremely cozy and equipped with everything we needed and much more !! Brenda & Lance were incredible hosts and attended to anything we needed during our stay. We spent the week in a state of utter bliss and happiness: cooking, napping , snowshoeing (snowshoes were provided), reading , playing games and snuggling by the fire. It was better then we could have imagined. We are hoping to make it a yearly vacation and cannot wait to get back :)

We arrived to a nice warm cabin as the stove was already lit. Settled in and relaxed for most of the first day. Dogs were in heaven and happy to be free of a leash! Plenty of wood and water supplied for our stay! You don't realize how much of those necessities you need this time of the year. We explored the mountain a little bit during the stay but did not go too far; we were afraid to come face to face with a snowmobile. Based on the map provided, there are many places we really want to explore this summer! Private waterfalls, water pools, caverns, canyons. We can't wait to get back!!!
So appreciative of the way the cabin was left! They even folded the dirty laundry! Such a refreshing difference from the last people at our other cabin who left a pile of filthy dishes in the sink. Most folks who prefer off grid are awesome, they more than make up for those rare lazy asses! Thank you Jeanne and Tony; love to have you back!

My boyfriend and I spent a week at the cabin and had such a great time. The views are amazing! The cabin is equipped that a week’s stay was comfortable. The cabin was clean and cozy. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay welcoming and accommodating. They had the trails mapped out were we could leave our cabin with snowshoes in tote and off we went to explore the beautiful location! If you are looking for a peaceful retreat to be in nature this is the place for you! Thank you Brenda and lance for EVERYTHING!

My Best Kept Secret
October 30, 2013
This has been our second trip to this property and just when I thought it couldn't get any better.....Well it did......BIG TIME! If your looking for a last minute escape from a hectic work life, or just want to get away from it all than this is the place of your dreams. Often when work gets a little crazy in the winter "as we all know it sometimes does" to ease my mind I just imagine my time at Camp Winona and the serenity and peacefulness it provided us with. (their other cabin shown on the right hand side of this page)This new camp is a beautiful hand crafted rustic cabbing perched on top of a beautiful secluded mountain. Your amazing hosts have provided you with a vast and endless amount of amenities for your trip. Your cabin has everything a chef as myself would need to cook a gourmet meal. We enjoyed a roasted beef tenderloin with root vegetables and several other amazing meals while we were there. From paper towels to a set of chef knives or even a nice book to read, Brenda and Lance have it waiting there for you. Our first sunrise on our first morning my sister as well as the 2 six year old children we had were astonished to see a female "cow" moose and her baby a "calf" stroll right in-front of the camp. Almost as if we were never even there. We have gained memories that i know will last a life time at this property and I would like to thank the owners for sharing this with us as well as the public. Thank-you Brenda and Lance for everything you do. This property provides something that I have found to be priceless and trust me you will not be disappointed! Thanks again for sharing Most Sincerely, Justin & Candice

Not enough time to take it all in! Beautiful location, views go on forever. If you like hiking and exploring this is it. Make sure you make it to Devil's Den. Looking forward to seeing it in the snow. The cabin is so cozy we didn't want to leave and neither did the dog! I could go on and on, but go and visit for yourself!

Took my wife here for our 1st year anniversary and we had a great time! The Brenda and her husband have done a great job with this place. Moose Mountain is brand new and has all the luxuries you need to remain off the grid. We really enjoyed hiking all the trails around and just driving through the many miles of beautiful fall forest. I would highly recommend this cabin if you want something unique and special. Can't wait to return!

This is a wonderfully designed and decorated cabin. It is charming and cozy. Large windows enabled us to appreciate the outstanding mountain that were visible even from the very comfortable double bed. The gas lights are very effective at illuminating the rooms. The gas refrigerator and stove work well. The cabin is thoroughly equipped. We appreciated sunsets and mountains from the very comfortable chairs on the spacious deck. Star-gazing from the back yard was spectacular. The composting bathroom is inside; it does not smell. A small fire in the wood stove quickly heated the cabin. Excellent hiking and canoeing possibilities are in the vicinity. Our hosts left a great bottle of wine to soothe our aching joints after a hike. Highly recommended.
